everyone's gotta remember, while you could keep the head alive, it can only stay alive for so long (even with todays technology). Because it has no organs to feed/protect itself its prone to bacteria etc because it has no protection provided by a normal body, also it wouldn't be able to reproduce its own cells for a long enough time to live. It's real, but the dog isn't really living. The organs merely kept the brain slightly functioning enough to make stiff reactions to movement. The dog's head could never make decisions on its own or think logically, thus it is not living. The dog's head here is nothing but a moving mass of tissue. Its soul has already gone elsewhere.
