  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis I've shot English longbow, American flatbow (which is a relatively modern design), Hungarian horse bow, modern recurve and compound.

Honestly, anyone who says any of them don't require a significant level of skill to be able to shoot well is blowing hot air.

Bows that are shot off the hand have inherent inaccuracies so will never be as accurate as modern designs, but all bows take repitition of thousands of arrows and a high level of skill to get even close to "good".

  • It could be, archery has been done by many cultures in history though and the love for archery isn't limited to the Koreans.

I see what you did there!

  • man the indeans could've used some koreans when they fought the cowboys :p

  • wat are beta blockers

  • @hoythelix202 Beta blockers are a class of drug.

They reduce heart rate, natural tremors and the effects of adrenaline. That allows competitors in sports like shooting and archery to remain more calm and steady in their shots.

    That's why it's a banned substance.

  • why do they spin their bows at the end of the shot? Could someone explain to me?

  • its because of the counter-weight (big thing pointing out the front), it makes the bow fall forward on release of the arrow. The counter-weight is their to help steady the bow

  • incorrect, the "big pointy thing" is to reduce the vibration in the bow once you release, that affects the arrow flight.

  • counterweight -if you're bow hand is really relaxed when you shoot ,the bow drops when you finish the shot .

  • Well they dont spin it, they dont grab it so no tension on the grip and its more accurate. Bow jumps infront but because fingersling it dont go flying (srry for my english)

  • They don't spin it, they just let it go it's own way.

And because of the weight it spins.

They do that because they want to make sure they don't give a weird spin to the bow or arrow which would lead to a bad shot

  • Im guessing they don't hold the bow with a death grip, but with a relaxed grip. So instead of trying to hold the bows recoil, they let it go and use pendulum effect to grab the bow back up again.

  • @lbgundead You asked about the rotating bow:

A good archer doesn't hold their bow *at all*. The bow is held in place by the pressure of the handle pushing back into the archers hand roughly along the "life line" (in palm-reading terms).

If an archer grips the bow, they lose accuracy.

When an arrow is shot, the bow jumps forwards from the hand where it is caught by a sling which stops it falling. Letting it rotate forward on the sling ensures they don't try to catch the bow and ruin the shot.

  • Superb !

  • Che Bravì O.O

  • is this from the olympics? because I believe they got disqualified for using beta blockers

  • I think the North Koreans are the guilty ones in the case you mention and not the South Korean archers in the video. These archers are totally legitimate.

  • Hmm Which Brand is Park S.H. using?

in the olypmic games she uses Samick Extreme + Master riser.

  • Actually, her riser is a now discontinued Samick Ultra Agulla and her limbs are Samick Masters, approx 68"/44lbs according to various online sources.

  • BULLSEYE!

  • why does the thing on the rest click right before the shoot.....what is it?

  • It's a clicker(not actually on the arrow rest but usually mounted on the riser) which lets the archer know when the arrow has been pulled back enough and allows them to release the arrow consistently. At their level, a small variable could mean the difference between winning and losing a match.

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhh i c.

  • clicker

  • remarkable form. no wasted energy. so calm under so much pressure. amazing.

  • is it true,70m..wow they only shoot yellow...

  • You better believe it = D. By the way the target face is 122cm for 70 and 90 meters if I'm not mistaken.

  • how far is it?

  • They all seem to be shooting 12 arrow matches which means 70 meters = D
