@1Lanavis1 Actually, it's more specifically the christian religion... The jews no longer subscribe to the idea of blood sacrifice. Christianity probably formed out of a jewish group that believed god valued blood sacrifice over prayer (just an educated guess), thus the value of Jesus's sacrifice to christians is apparent. Christianity also teaches its followers to "follow Jesus's example," so such acts may seen noble to christians.

Note: that a god is not needed for this because you can disbelieve in something without that something being imagined. For instance, someone can disbelieve in a Furirig without ever having heard the word or hearing what it is simply b/c they don't believe in it!
