It's not like he's doing the drums and the synths at the same time. The drums are a premade pattern that he is just looping. For this all you need to do is know how to hit a few soft pads.

it is just a midi controller, it doesnt have any effects or sounds built in

you can set it up to loop if the programme youre controlling has looping capabilities though

The pressing buttons part is easy, but the real mastery of an instrument like this comes in your preparation.

You have to carefully choose your sounds and really be able to sonically visualize a song before you make it and that's what makes it difficult for some folks.

Maybe for instrumentalists this seems easy, but this is also the bottom rung of what can be done on this machine...

erm well it depends what programme you're using, in ableton drums are set to the octave C3 to C4 so you just set the pads to play notes between C3 and C4, drag an impulse kit onto a midi track, arm the midi track and hit some pads...all this is assuming the midi settings are set right?

Erm it has memory in as far as it remembers what settings it's using like what midi message the controls are assigned to. It does work without a computer but needs a power supply and obviously something to control via midi...

in Ableton, put a phaser onto a track, go into midi mapping mode, click one of the parameters of the phaser and move your finger across the x axis then click the other parameter and move your finger along the y axis. Easy as that :)

The lights aren't really for timing! There just for effect really,also you can change the light effects by pressing the following buttons:

(Square effect) Turn off your padkontrol, Hold the buttons Setting And message, Whilst holding them turn your pad kontrol back on.

(Domino effect) Do the same process but hold setting and fixed velocity

(normal effect) Setting and Prog change

To get the break playing behind what you were doing, what do you have to do? Do you make the drum beat and record it? Then play it?

Erm well I just arranged it as a loop in ableton using a drum kit that ableton already has and then used one of the trigger pads to start playing the loop and another one to stop playing the loop. You don't even have to record the drum beat you just arrange on the screen and then play it back to see if it sounds good

I use reason mostly, but i figured it out, i just sampled the synth sounds and assigned them in the nnxt sampler,but how do you do it in ableton live jus for the future?

well in the librarian editor for the padk you can assign the pads to either controls or notes, if you assign them to notes then when you arm a midi track in Live, when you hit a trigger pad it should play the note you have assigned it to. Hope that's helpful..cheers for watching :D

Well what programme are you using? Because in Ableton Live the drum sounds are assigned to certain notes, I think it's from C3 to C4, so the padkontrol's pads are assigned to notes already. Sorry if that's not very helpful, I'd need to know what software you use though.

Ive not got any experience with the kaoss pad, from what I've heard it's amazing but the PadK is more for controlling notes and transport controls and such whereas the kp3 is more for effects...thats what I think anyway so it depends what you want it for
