Ok... let's take this back to the most simple basics that everyone can understand:
From 1991 to 2008, Australia had 17 years of uninterrupted, sustained growth, averaging 3.5% pa. When you have sustained (as opposed to exponential) economic growth, all the other aspects of the economy more or less improve! For the vast majority of those years, Australia was under a liberal government. Interpret that how you will.
Singapore and Hong Kong are basically run like corporations, and they've done the very best throughout the economic recession. Economic liberty is the way to go--always has been, and always will be. People own themselves and the product of their own work. A moral society is based on voluntary consent.
Oooh I'm ErikNikolai and I'm a know-all-know-nothing econs101 Dolt
I see you jimmy, throwing up bull-dust theory about generations to come paying the bill, we should take all the Tuition fees of all the uni's in Australia for all commerce degrees studied in the last decade and use the proceeds for bailouts and welfare. Without welfare Australians starve. Without Proper means adjusted taxation Australians starve. Maybe not by thousands but in numbers that matter to me.
@cimnow4 Yet to the degree that there is socialist type policies, there's a lower standard of living, and a higher level of poverty--and such a system will never be sustainable in the long-term. It's a matter of individual rights, however. People own themselves and the product of their own labor, and have a right to exist for their own sake. Civil society and voluntary charity is more effective, and produces a more moral society, than a robotic state which removes all choice. That matters to me.
@ErikNikolai Susainabillity in long term? In Our Commonwealth (it's in the name you parrot) modern day Australia: "long term" is about 2.5 years so a few anzac days later: Hey guys let's forget after that decade of growth corporates tried to indenture us with AWB's fast-tracking to jobs like those kids which make our shoes, cause ErikNikolai says it makes for a more-moral Liberated OZ.
Yet with & to some degree ur blind. Serriously guy UP YOURS U FLAMING PARROT.
@ex1le444 I'm sorry for causing you such an emotional outburst. Perhaps you will manage to control that temper a bit better as you grow older -- at least on the Internet, where it just looks silly.
@ErikNikolai I'm not the pathetic neo-con nutter trying to spout his stupid, ignorant, hypocritical ideas to 3 people on Youtube, because nobody else will listen.
That honor belongs to you! Welcome to the out there margins of the nutter, where you belong asshat.
@ex1le444 Do you believe that angry rants on YouTube is a novelty? It makes you look like a child, and it's terribly unorgiginal. If you aren't capable of rational discourse, keep out of politcs--else, you make your own side look worse. I hope you grow up to recognise the irrationality of calling people who support individual liberty "neocons."
Both these places mentioned are cityTRADE-HUBS and as such have no bearing on Australian or any other Sovereign Nations economic or political futures.
Yeah so anyone with money is automatically the bad guy? There is no more a "millionaire club" then there is a "lower upper middle class club" or any thing else. There is no incentive to be a millionaire in Australia any way with the way tax works. The more you earn the greater percentage you pay - why do you think there is a brain drain in Australian industry? Pilots, engineers, architects etc all went overseas because they were sick of paying 50% tax if they're earning over $180,000.
I find it highly disturbing to look at our economy as a company. Profit sharing? Seriously, it goes to show you don't need intelligence to become a millionaire.
Capitalism is too ruthless and shortsighted to purely base the fortunes of a county on.
Capitalist like that don't care about Australia, it's people, or it's future. They'll cash-out and let the generations to come starve in a unsustainable, nuclear, de-salinating hell.
@cimnow4 Unsustainability is the hallmark of the Left. Through their Keynesian economics, they will spend the money of the next generations, print out new money from nothing (causing inflation), and borrow heavily from other nations, in order to fund the welfare schemes which are required for them to hold on to their own power. "Vote for us-- we'll give you free stuff."
As for my own pick, what about the Greens? I'm not sure it'd be an entirely good thing if they were the alternative government just yet but a vote for them (and preference to labor) will help send a message that this country is mainly populated by non millionares and that we also deserve a fair go.
Proffit sharing idea is interesting but you'd have to define what "proffit" is, does it mean the effectivness of social programs? Does it mean "national happiness index (like in Bhutan) or is he just talking about flat increase in GDP the benefits of which would easily (hense most likely) be enjoyed by only the top 1 or 2 percent of the population? If the foremer examples then there's an idea we can talk about, if the latter, go away, you've already taken enough from us.
I'm 20 years old this is my first time voting for a big election and it is so confusing. I have absolutely no idea who to vote for. So I'm just gonna get there blindfolded with a darts board and the last party standing gets my votes. I'm leaving this country before it all gets out of hand anyways.
Problem has been the Liberals kept selling off profitable government utilities to private enterprise who increased prices and lowered the standard of service.
Australia needs to take back utilitities from underperfoming companies, bring in laws that all international students must return home with no right to citizenship, including if they marry an Australian.
Use satelites to find refugee boats much earlier and turn them back and get the countries population back to a sustainable level.
@Yutubetopteensingers "get the countries population back to a sustainable level." We have a sustainable population the real problem goes back to Hawke& Keating who opened the place up to multinationals, who screw the population, rape it's resources then move on! Neither of the major parties are will to oust these criminals while they continue making donations to the parties, thereby have the govt in their pockets regardless of who wins!
I think this is what aus needs. These people will come up with new ways to raise revenue instead of relying on the middle class tax to pay for everything.
Well, if you run Australia like a company (where making a profit is the raison d'etre) then there goes the environment, health services - especially 'non-profitable' mental and disability health services -, the arts, and indigenous affairs.
And there is a viable 'other' party already. The Greens!
Medical Marijuana legalization. One thing our country refuses to think seriously about. I'm sick of people being put on prescription pills that are ruining their life's when if they were accustom with the medicinal miracle we know as cannabis, the life's of so many ill people would be enhanced.
Redtim52. the country will never go without essential services. We will always have negative people like yourself to do them. Just because you havent amounted to anything don't knock someone that has.
What Rob doesn't realise is that the world doesn't work if everyone is an entrepreneur (or a trader in Rob's case). They think that everyone can sit in the living room trading futures and then buy their own island retreat.
Making a country 'profitable' causes excessive privitisation of essential services (something which Australians are now paying for in more ways than one). I agree that today's governments are hopeless, but replacing them with pure capitalists is not the answer.
this guys brain is only focused on money and profits.these sorts of attitudes towards running a country are very very dangerous!!!
