Note how both Renault and Citroen (2CV) gave their compact cars the luxury of four doors from the beginning, whereas one had a hard time climbing into the backseat of a VW Bug until the end. 4 doors good, 2 doors bad. :D
KOOL, crazy-sweet cream-puff. Wish i had the had the grace and good taste to know and appreciate such class in my younger days, might have, scratch that, probably SHOULD have, traveled to north Africa esp. Morocco, found and bought a Renault to travel around in. Ah, LOTTA things I'd wished I'd done before the world went to shit in such a big way as it has, thanks to Unkle Sam's pandering to Corporate gangsters & war-mongers & conservative hatemonger idealists. Less IS more. Peace & Love, always!
Not many came to Australia in right hand drive, but my family owned one for nearly 20 years, I wish we still had it. The first car I drove was a 4 CV, great fun, ours was a charcoal grey colour, with all the original splash covers in the engine bay, I think it was a '57 Luxe model. A car that you just had to love, even when it broke down, which was not often. And even when it did at 600 kG dripping wet my younger brother and I, both school kids could push our mother home in it, what memories.
the firsts 4cv models were painted with yellow color. In reality it was the paint of germans afrika corps tanks surplus. What a revenge when you know that 3 prototypes were build in secret during the occupation...
The 4CV was originally conceived and designed covertly by Renault engineers during the German occupation of France during World War II, when the manufacturer was under strict orders to design and produce only commercial and military vehicles. A design team led by Fernand Picard, Charles-Edmond Serre and Jean-Auguste Riolfo envisioned a small, economical car suitable for the economically difficult years which would inevitably follow the war.
very nice car! The best thing about this is the engine, sounds like a very big one and is very smooth! The fiat 500 engine is rude, loud and not so powerful and make the car shake too much!
owned one in the mid-60's. If you got blocked in by cars after parallel parking? Just walk around front, grab the bumper and bounce that little car's front end out of the parking place. Get in, start the engine. And go!
@KobeSpawn in the VW world super beetles are looked at as being filth... . i mean i got a 59 and i love it, but i got nothing agenst em, and very slick car
The coolest little car in the world

Thank you! Nostalgia - my grandmother had one of these in the mid-50s and I only ever heard good things said about it.
