A great argument against abortion and pre-natal testing. If the average parent today knew they were going to have a blind autistic child they'd snuff them out in the womb. Then the world would be robbed of this genius and many like him. Disability needs to be respected. If we can afford to bail bankers out for billions we can afford to look after disabled people and give them the same shot at life that everyone else has.
@coldcallinguk: And force 14 year old rape victims to go through with their pregnancy and give birth. Or to force someone who is not physically fit to bear children to go through the same process, possibly killing them in it? No, abortion is a good thing when used for the right reasons. I have Asperger's Syndrome, and in the event that I, in the future, learn that my child will have suffer from e.g. Down's Syndrome, I would have plenty of non-egoistic reasons not to want to have it.
Also, isn't it enough that Christianity helps kill millions every year because of the Catholic Vatican's view on condoms and other forms of contraception? Their (note "their", I don't know if you are religious or if that has bearing on your stand on abortion) opposing abortion just adds to the stupidity of religion.
so why are the non talent Kardashians all over tv and he is not? Id love to turn on the tv and see a show about musical savants, id rather watch keeping up with derek paravicini, not keeping up with the non talent kardashians
@BjorklundSimon So let me get this straight, god has brought joy to the world by robbing this man of ever having a normal life, of ever being able to have real relationships, of ever being able to get married and enjoy the wonders of parenthood, of ever being able to see, of ever being able to live an independent life, by burdening his parents whom have to administer him with constant care? If that's what you're saying then I have one thing to say to god (if god actually existed) - EPIC FAIL!
@skydog6395 Wow..you've COMPLETELY missed my point. And your facts about Derek are incorrect. He is not dyslexic, he's autistic. And he clearly does not have the mental faculties of a 12 year old as 12 year olds can learn and feed and clothe themselves. I've been a fan of Derek's for many years and read his book "In The Key Of Genius". So I think my insights to Mr. Paravacini ought not be questioned.
I'd further explain my point to you but it will be wasted.
@alahachmed thats me lol... on the other hand, he was born 15 weeks early and autisic. To make things worse, he was born blind also. Sevants are truly special.
@talkinwalnut1 Actually he wasn't born blind, but due to being born premature was given oxygen therapy which caused him to go blind, he also has a severe learning disability.
I think everyone in the world should give him their favorite album to listen to, of any style of music, just so that he can put it all together and create the perfect soundtrack for every brain in the world. Personally I would give him my Incubus Science album, just to see how a little alternative rock would twist his musical mind.
I would also like to put a pair of drumsticks in his hands, and have him listen to some Buddy Rich. I bet he'd catch on to that within a week.
What an amazing, wonderful, incredible musician is Derel Paravicini!
His mentor, Adam Ockelford, published in 2008 a most fascinating -- and incredibly moving -- account of Derek's life called "In the Key of Genius: The Extraordinary Life of Derek Paravicini."
More of Derek's work can he heard on his website (goodgle it!) and is available for sale on CDBaby. You toes will be a-tappin'!
