Those my colleagues of College and University theories [atheism] came here to discuss those vanity thesis and forget to listen robust perfect solar kind of BACH music. Well..., my colleagues DO not REALLY understand anything about "MUSICAL FORM". Poor intellectual coarse blind colleagues! THANKS Bach for that clever perfect artful smart kind of music.
This music is an aesthetic redention in the miserable times we are living in, in term of aesthetic quality.
@055697 Not for lack of trying though. The words "..robust perfect solar.." don't go together in my mind. (Yes I understand English is probably not his first language.)
Well, do you understand what he is going on about? I have no idea! ROFL!! If people can't write or express themselves well in another language then it is easy: i.e. don't bother, just use your own language (in his case, Portuguese).
@beatlesmack9 He is neither. He's a tenor, and sings the role of the Evangelist. His voice is high, but not as high as a countertenor. A countertenor is a male voice who sings in the alto range. An alto is a woman (for example, at 4:10) who sings in that range (low female, as compared to soprano -- high female). However, you will sometimes hear about male altos and sopranos. Younger children in boys' choirs, for example.
It's a bit the wrong time to listen to this for me (since it's almost christmas) but nonetheless beautiful. I sang in a children's choir, and performed this with another choir and orchestra. Good memories!
@xtrmsprts Like your daddy did to you? Did you feel special? Or all daddys in your trailer park do it? You wanted yours to "touch you" but alas, it never happened. Oh poor you...
oh my gosh, thank you for posting this. I really wanted to hear this today (and the Easter Oratorio) and don't own either of them, so thank you for posting this. Gorgeous!

Okay, so the round faced fellow with the high voice, is he a counter-tenor or an alto and what is the difference please?

who are the soloists?
aeru9 1 year ago
@aeru9
Evangelist=Jörg Dürmüller (Switzerland), Jesus=Ekkehard Abele (Germany), Alto=Bogna Bartosz (Poland), conductor=Ton Koopman (the Netherlands).
Other soloists appearing later are German soprano Cornelia Samuelis and Scottish tenor Paul Agnew. And German bass Klaus Mertens.
Mertens and Bartosz are my favourites :)

Some openings say, "listen up". The Matthaeuspassion hat ein solches Anfang.

Herzliebster Jesu is by far my favorite song from the passion. I love it. This passion is truly a masterpiece.
