I was kicked in the head by Stiv at CBGBs circa 78-79. Not deliberately but because some bloke behind me was spitting beer at him and so I put my head down as I was being drenched. I felt something soft strike my head--Stiv fortunately was wearing sneakers--and when I looked behind me Stiv and this shit were fighting before the bouncer broke it up. Awesome...
@stutaggart What was UNLUCKY was that I drove the dude down there. He tagged along with some other dude I knew. Just my luck. CBGBs was a VERY scary place.
@StevenCarinci thats the kind of tale worthy of a lifetime of free drinks! i hope...i got a friend who got a black eye from Jello, he still does well by it to this day.
Cheetah is playing a Gibson Melody Maker with 2 pick ups. It was made somewhere between 1959 and 1962. It came with a tremolo bar option that he does not have on his guitar. It was removable leaving a stationary bridge.
I don't need anyone Don't need no mom and dad Don't need no pretty face Don't need no human race I got some news for you Don't even need you too I got my time machine Got my electronic dream Sonic reducer Ain't no loser Sonic reducer Ain't no loser
Ain't It Fun is a great song, though the Dead Boys didn't write that one. And I disagree about CBGB -- it was every bit as legendary as we remember it. Maybe more. It was a great place to play too. Best on-stage sound of all the clubs we played back then.
Yes. I idolize dead people too. Not quite. We are impressed by their talent, confidence, urgency and bravado.
Listen to your UncleCourtney.
Apathy is antithetic to the punk movement. Anti-apathy is antithetic to the punk movement. Why do I care about Stiv? Who would idolize such a stupid shit? Ah, he was brilliant and stupid at the same time and because of that the rest of us boring fucks will learn something. Or mabye it is just about the leather.
Their excellent music and apathy is a common human emotion. But "punk" is supposed to be more then a mohawk and a sneer. In its essence, it is rejection of modern society which is corrupt and..apathetic, downright mean. Now "Punk rock" is to kick garbage cans and listen to "the music." Punk rock is a life style and a mentality. This is my opinion: Punk is a comfortable sense of self so you can be yourself comfortably. Morals/ideals you follow and a social consience. Maybe it is just leather
Ahh my third favorite "dead" group in the world after= Dead Kennedy's and the Dead Milkmen. So you can eat me Dead by Gun,Dead Betties, Dead Center,Dead to Me,Dead to Fall, and Dead Fucking Last. You Suck! Feel free to add if I missed any obvious ones.
I think the guy from Teenage Atari put it best, "If you have to tell yourself that punk's not dead, than its dead" These guys were the real fucking deal

actually, i get bored by the past of CBGBs - it was not as legendary as we recall. Ain't It Fun is more remarkable as a song

I also wasn't inferring that I didn't like apathetic music or whatever. I really like the dead boys.
