One thing to keep in mind. In those days, people had resolve and were able to farm and live off the land. Today everything is dependent on technology and oil and henpecked husbands who sit on their thumbs while their fat wives watch dancing with the stars. Hopeless.
@TheDaxbaby;Uh,HELLO McFly.!!! *thumps TheDaxbaby's noggin* In case you did'nt know...we ARE in a great depression...history will look back at this era as the great depression of 2008-???
This is a very good image mix for this iconic song - share in the classroom and have the students discuss their impressions - and what the lyrics are saying.
I'm amazed at all the people I run into who say that , a great depression can't happen again. That's crazy, but for the grace of God it hasn't happend yet but it could.
My grandparents were share croppers and manys the time they all went to bed hungry, had to take shifts guarding what chickens they had , or cotton or other things of value (lively hood) they had. It was tough but they all ejoyed their lives, they had each other , worked together and most people helped each other .
@TheDaxbaby of course the great depression can happen again......what people do not realize is maybe it can't happen "the way it did in the 1930s",,,,,but....it can occur due to different reasons
your facts are off on the price of stocks the high was 386 for the dow jones on labor day of 29 and 40 bucks for the low in june 32 stocks fell about 85% and the blue chips ie US steel standard oil with banking companies about 90% dow jones didnt even recover until 1954 and personal stock ownership until 1985
@chasdotb History is not really repeating itself. Rather, it is simply stuttering over an issue that it OBVIOUSLY REFUSES TO EVER ADDRESS. The issue in question: liberating people from fear, in any form.
My late father (who died at 83 years old in 1999) told me many, many stories about the great depression. It was just terrible.....and to make it worse many people lost their husbands (the bread winners of the family back then) 10 years earlier from the 1918 flu pandemic. My dad lost his father from the flu, he, his baby sister and mother had to be taken in by sympathetic relatives....then get slammed with the Great Depression...to make it worse then he was drafted for WW2
This is the future if the republicans get thier way.............a few with vast fortunes, and the rest scrounging for crumbs.............history can repeat.
@verminone you are wrong 100 % ,obama and the democrats has got this country in trillions of dollars in debt because of the him and the democratic party inability of leadership..obama goes in 2012.
@MegaInvisible1 you are correct that obama and the democrats have sunk the country trillions in debt.....but keep in mind that it was an attempt to correct what 8 years of what Bush caused. Obama is in a no win situation. If he had not gone along with the expensive bail out and the economy crashed he would blamed for not saving the economy. If he does go with the big bail out and the economy crashes he will be blamed for it. (by thye way I am not a democrat)
The depression happened because people were selfsh and blew away their money. Banks went bankrupt because they had no fuel to run on.

We are three years into the current recession/depression. Keep waiting for the good times to return, hope it doesn't go on for 9 years.

The great depression will be a walk in the park compared to what's about to happen to us now.

This will be how Oduma is remembered, you will all remember today as the good old days.
In another few years we will be in a hopeless shithole. Thanks, Oduma, Peloser and all the idiots that cast a vote for ignorance.
