I don't know if anyones said this, but the street shots of Sydney throughout it are taken from a music clip by an Australian band called Cold Chisel and their song Saturday Night. I remember seeing this clip like 10 years ago and was really chuffed, because Cold Chisel would be one of my favourite Aussie bands, and U2's one my favourite bands
@BlackMamba903 True, cut out the generally overlong and uninspiring live stuff on R&H and you would have had a studio album that would have been a seamless bridge between their two acknowledged masterpieces - The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, that would probably have been as highly regarded as the two.
I miss this U2 : a creative band with soul evoking music. Every now and then they get a spark, but it gets submerged in mediocre music. I don't mean to hang Bono with his words, but there was a time were he "could sleep on stone", or hang from the rafters with the crowd watching in awe. U2 made their best music in troubled times, perhaps that is where they can find the fire again.
Wow!!. I was actually at the third Sydney show for the Lovetown tour and they opened the set with Hawkmoon. Had not seen this before so thanks to the poster for putting it up. Cheers~~
because my friend yiu are a true U2 fan. You get what it's all about. I knew instinctively which bit would be 3.02. Soaring guitar and the dolphins. Mindblowing :)
They should have included this concert as a bonus on the Rattle and Hum BluRay. Perhaps a special 20th anniversary edition commemorating the 1989 new years eve show would be nice.
thank you, thank you after so many years i was loking for this video.i made a copy of VHS in the 90`s from MTV and i lost this.now i `m very, very happy
What a MIGHTY song,in the best U2 tradition. This song is so powerful that actually jump out from the borders of this world,in the borders of freedom and justice....
Tell your English teacher that I had his mum! This song isn't usually u2-styled sophisticated but here is the simple beauty of these words. U2 lyrics might sound boring (V. Rarely) but they are definitely not stupid
In my opinion...and please don't every one beat me to a pulp all at once...Joshua Tree: pinnacle. Definitely, to this day, my favorite album front to back ever. I always thought "Acrobat," from an album that's about 50/50, was the last great U2 song.
I love this U2 song...I use it to see if someone's sound system is up to the test...if the bass can handle the thumps and if the volume button really goes to TEN! The Rattle and Hum CD version is pretty good, granted live "interpretations" are usually better.
there isnt a full concert from this show. this is from the lovetown special aired on tv in 1989. theres only 5 1/2 songs on it: hawkmoon, watchtower, all i want is you, god part 2, when love comes..., and a little bit of love rescue me. the UK version had desire on it, but that is real rare, but the video is on youtube.
Was this song only played during the short, geographically limited "love town" tour? I figured since this appears to be the only "released" version of the song.
people seem ignorant enough to think the only one playing guitar in this live version is "The Edge". Well - it's not! Bono also plays the guitar sometimes.
why do you think that? BOno does play guitar piano harmonica and a bit of drums, but he says he sucks at it all :P at least if I quote an interview taken from him while they asked him if he wanted to leave the band and go solo he said no
He says he sucks at it (probably compared to most professional guitarists). This does firstly not mean he does suck at it, and it secondly doesn't mean that he can't play simple chords to back up the main guitar of a song, as he's done many times.
i was born in '85, but didn't get into them till recently. and now i'm completely obsessed. I purchased Zoo TV from 1993 and Popmart 1997 DVDs. and they are an awesome start.
Breathtaking performance... I have always loved this song and I always will....
Would die for to hear it live.... (Never give up...)
Who has the full concert?
