He only used the capo on the 5th fret on Telegram Sam (he used it on the 4th for Ride a White Swan).

I agree that you HAVE to use a capo on Telegram Sam in order the get the same tone feel, as it simply doesn't work on an open 'A'. However of more significance in achieving that tone is a combination of a that very special Les Paul into a Dallas Rangemaster, into a Colorsound Power Boost into an HH IC100 amp.

@COZZIG Notice the capo on the 5th fret? That's why a lot of people can't get the same T.Rex guitar sound, he uses a capo on the Les Paul guitar in a lot of his songs.
