  • Hi Glenn. I bought a zoom g9.2tt to use with 4 cable method but it change my amplifier dynamics. The gt 10 will change the amplifier dynamics? Is better boss or line6 to do that?

  • @LorisEmanuelCianni No the GT-10 did not change my amp dynamics. Not sure about Line6

  • Did you had problem with noise or hiss while not playing? I've got JVM410 and zoom g9.2tt I can connect it the same way, I have all volume in and outs send properly but this nasty hiss is draiving me crazy ;/

  • @Vethuleion No I don't have any hiss at all. Only the normal buzz when using the red channel. Noise gate takes care of that. On the orange it's totally silent when not playing so no noise gate needed.

  • Pff this video sucks, now I want this amp !!! HAHA

    Just kidding, great video.

  • Hey bro. Thanks for the replies.I'm having an issue with my GT-10 using the 4cable method.I get a squeel when i turn the amp volume up.And it sounds alittle phasey.Any toughts on this. Thanks Kenny Kanowski

  • @kennykanowski Kenny make sure you have the FX chain set up properly I show in this video at 7:15. Also make sure you have achieved unity gain

  • Wicked Glenn...!!!!! Excellent Tone!!

  • I know you will do an awesome review of the gt100 I can wait to see if I need on or not lol iv read already alot of people bashing it but they haven't even tried it yet lol they don't know. I dont see boss putting there name on something that not awesome!

  • @Jeepjones85 You k ow Ibanez has some good large hollow body jazz guitars. I think they are the "Artcore" series. Also there is Gretch and of course Gibson ES335

  • Dude is nasty

  • @Creed19952011 Thanx. . . , I think ;-)

  • @extremevideopro yea definitely meant that i a good way. For me the first minute is soo badass. Would love to blare that shit in my car!! lol Rock On!!

  • good video Glenn, I miss my gt10 sometimes...have u checked out the gt100?

  • @mrkyt77 Waiting on mine. Video to come!!

  • hey i checked out the jvm 4 cable method but it was with the gt-10 How can you change between amp mods and jvm sound on a HD 500 any help please THanks

  • @kennykanowski Use a MIDI cable. For the instructions on how to select the amp channels once you have the MIDI cable connected, go to the Marshall Amps website and watch the demo of the JVM amp.

  • 3:04 is where it begins.

Thanks for being such a sharing and loving Gt-10 guru, Glenn!

  • Master volume level?

  • HI Glenn, great video. I may have an opportunity to pick up one of these JVM's, and was wondering... the JVM205H and JVM210H is pretty much the same amp right(except for 50 + watts)?. Also, are you just modifying your existing patches you have for the GT-10, like what you have on your download site? Did you create new ones? I saw you created the JCM 800 patch in the video. Thanks for sharing!

  • @jef1rok Yes I had to slightly modify some of my existing patches for this amp. Mainly I'm using the GT-10 as an FX ONLY rig. Taking advantage of the nice distortion that this amp offers.

  • how do you record with the mic? and the camera, how do you match the sound up with the video? if thats what you do... if not how do you record?

  • @villafan95 I use video editing software to sync up the video with the recorded sound.

  • hey really cool video.

but i'm still struggling with the midi setup. could you do a video about midi-channel-switching with the gt-10?

that would be awesome ('cause i own the JVM205H and the GT-10 myself ;-)

  • @SiebenRob Rob, it's very easy. . .Just set the Marshall on the channel you want, press the MIDI program button on the Marshall twice and then press the foot switch on the GT-10 you want to engage that setting on the Marshall. The MIDI button on the Marshall will blink and there you have it!!

  • @extremevideopro oh I see... I was hoping to be able to change the amp-settings with the exp-switches, cause I was having latencies along with the patch-changes. Is there a possibility to get rid of those?

  • @SiebenRob There is a setting in the GT-10 MIDI section. I can't recall what it is right now but I think it is "Sync Clock". I have mine set to Auto

  • @extremevideopro okay, that worked out. thanks Glenn, that was very helpfull =)

  • hi glenn... i did some research and found out my amp has a parallel fx loop :( ... is it really that bad??.. or is there some way to make it work? (besides buying another amp lol)

  • @livio1396 Sure just give it a try. It might work

  • Hi Glenn, thanks for your quick response. I love your "the trees" video. I was wondering if you'd use the EQ, COMP, FX1 or FX2 (with the variations like Tone Modifier, Resonator, etc). If so, can u allow me to use your patch? Also, would u tell me your JVM's settings? By the way, I own the Marshall and the GT-10 just becaus of your videos! LOL. Thanks again. Regards

  • @93309377 My "Trees" cover song was recorded direct with the Gt-10. you can download those patches from my website if you want to. My Marshall setting can be seen at 16:47. If you pause the video and go full screen with it you should be able to make out the settings. I usually run the gain at about 2 oclock and the EQ pretty flat, maybe a bump in the mids and lower on the bass but that's pretty much it. I am using the Resonator on the GT-10 to to round out the sound on the FX1 slot,

  • @extremevideopro Awesome Glenn. Thanks again. I guess you work around your patches in the same way i do, with "less" means "more". Thanks again for your help. If I dont talk to you again have a Merry X-mas and a Happy New Year! ROCK ON

  • Hi Glenn. Greatings from Brazil. I'm a fan of your videos. I'm a Rush fan and I have used your GT-10 patches to play with my RUSH COVER band. I was wondering if you have these patches you use with the JVM and the 4 cable method.? Thanks for your time and ROCK ON!

  • @93309377 Hey Ivan, yes I use the JVM to play some RUSH stuff. I use the amp distortion though, not the GT-10 distortion. I use the green setting on the distortion channel for the Rush music.

  • Thanks for the vid Sir Glenn, can you give me advice im planning to change the pickup of my guitar. My guitar is solid necktru mahogany. My sytle of playing is like yours. Can you tell me what pickup brand and type is best to buy base on your experience. Would really appreciate your reply.. thanks.

  • @xOxsleepyheadxOx You ought to check out the

Dimarzio Dp213 Paf Joe Satriani Pickup or the Dimarzio Tone Zone, both are medium output passive pick-ups that offer a wide variety of sounds.

  • what is the intro song?

  • @villafan95 That's one of my originals called "Strut Your Stuff"

  • @extremevideopro Is "Strut Your Stuff" online anywhere? I'm diggin' that riff... ;-)

  • @JamiesHereNow No not yet. It soon will be though. I'm in the process of recording an album right now and this is one of the songs.

  • @extremevideopro Awesome, you should do a couple of videos about your recording process/setup. :-) Just about to download "Road To Redemption" off iTunes now actually - I'm liking the clips I've heard so far. Keep it up man.

  • @JamiesHereNow Thank you so much for your support. Merry Christmas

  • Glenn, thanks for advice, I'll try to stabilize pickups with foam. Feedback occurs only when gain knob is past noon, there's also a hum on orange/red channels, but during playtime it's acceptable for high gain amp I think

  • Thanks Glenn! I've bought this amp recently and try to figure out how it can sound good with my GT-10 effects, your video so much helpful!

By the way, on the red and orange OD modes on the amp - how do you set your gain knob? I have a lot of feedback in OD channel (not green mode - only red, and sometimes orange) when not playing notes and it's driving me crazy

  • @SirPalomid My gain is set on about 2 o'clock. Is it feedback or is it more of a humm? You might try stabilizing your pick-ups. If they are loose or have any play in them that could be causing the problem. I use cotton balls or foam inside the pickup cavity.

  • Hi Glenn, I've been reading a lot about the 4 cable method and I am almost sure about the amp I want to buy, some questions are still surrounding my head though.

    1. Do you recommend the 4cm to be the BEST way to use a GT-10? I mean, impressions about the 4cm vs normal output connections.

    2. With the 4cm, is it still possible to add overdrive and preamps from the GT-10 and still get great results?

    3. Can you use the 4cm to use the GT-10 for switching the amp channels even without the M5?

  • sir glenn! what output did you use on the gt-10? COMBO amp? or line/ output ...

  • @SkunkGuitar I use Stack Return

  • I see five cables in the diagram (or maybe the MIDI cable does not count?) Anyway, this is very helpful, but what if I want this method but in stereo? What extra cables and connections should I use. Thanks, looking forward to more videos.

A final question, what's the difefrence between this method and plugging sends and return first and the output of the GT-10 to the amp input? I thought that was the way it was meant to be.

    Thanks.

  • @Aristowi Yes the 5th cable is MIDI. To run stereo come out of the other GT-10 output to another amp. The other amp would have to used as a slave amp. That's how I do it when I run 2 Marshall heads.

The other connection you are describing is not the TRUE 4cm. It can be done that way but the sound won't be as good. If your amp does not have a Serial FX loop then you might try that method.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks Glenn, as usual you are very kind answering all our questions.

  • @extremevideopro Is the midi cable used for channel switching on the JVM? I'm also using a JVM 410 and would like to use all m y options.. Right now I'm just using the clean channel and running my HD500 thru that.. Hooking up using the 4 cable method right now!

  • @Pageplayer Yes I am switching the JVM channels via MIDI

  • Well, my setup consist of a Mark V, obviously the Gt-10 and a PRS, and I was looking for a more professional and accurate sound.

  • Any suggestions glenn??

  • @TheCyllo What is your setup Exactly and what sounds are you trying to achieve??

  • Thanx a lot Glenn, The thing is that I already have a GT-10 but I have the opportinity to buy a G-system, so I'm Debating on If I is it worth to buy the G-system or am I ok with the GT-10??

Thank you very much for your opinion and advises, and as someone said: for sharing all your knowledge and equipment.

  • Really nice video Glenn, I have a question: Wich one do you think is better or like the most; the gt-10 or the G-system??

    Thank you very much.

  • @TheCyllo The G System by far BUT it's really not a fair comparison since the G-System cost $1,100.00 more that the GT-10. I gotta say though FX wise the GT-10 can hold it's own and I will even say the the GT-10 is more "tweakable"

  • hi glenn i just got my GT 10 I've had it for about 2 months and i actually downloaded your patches which are "BANANAS" great work bro, now my question is, i play mostly gospel for my church as well as contemporary rock, and some metal, but for some reason i can't get them to sound like yours , 1- i have a Fender Hot rod deville 212 all tube amp, and i was wondering if you could help me on how should i set up my amp with the GT10, thank you in advance .

  • @JAPKB24 If you have downloaded my patches the banks 1 thru 10 are for going right into the front of your amp. I would try that first. The guitar has alot to do with it too so make sure you've got good pick-ups.

  • Ah right that makes sense, that's a cool rig Glen, and once again thanks for sharing.

    Nick

  • @61yatesn You're welcome Nick

  • Hey Glen, this is so helpful, big thanks for posting!. I have a JVM and i've been trying to get the TC Nova to work with it. I cant do the 4 cable thing with that so I might well be looking at a GT pretty soon! One question if i may Glen, as you are you using the M5 in the front of your signal chain, is it therefore being directed into the amp before the pre amp?

    All the best

    Nick

  • @61yatesn Yes Nick, the M5 is before my guitar it hits the JVM Preamp. I only use it for Uni-Vibe, Eb Downtuning and Octaver so it does sound good before the preamp.

  • Glen, it seems that the effects chain needs to be set up manually for each patch. Is there a way to make it a global change, as it seems that this set up of effects-chain needs to be applied globally for things to sound right.

  • @icing777 Nope, it's on a per patch basis. But once you have it set on one patch you can just copy that patch as a starting point as many times as you want.

  • Man you never stopped amaze me !!! been wacthing your tutorials with Line 6 X3 which save me from almost gave up to this multieffects :)) , and now my pacth in boss GT 10 for recording and live (i,ve been using for more than a year ) is basically modded from yours too!! Can you post a video on how to re amp with GT10?? keep up the good work dude!!!

  • That is an awesome setup. One of the reasons why I didn't want to buy this amp is because I thought there was no way to get around using the stock pedal and having to cycle through all the modes on each channel. Thank you for the demo.

  • Is the Midi doing the amp switching ? I have wanted to use the GT to switch amp channels but always thought it was amp switch on GT to amp switch of the amp ..

I see you have Midi hooked up in your diagram .. just trying to figure out why

  • @MikeyGee001

Ohh ,,, and do I need to "activate" or "enable" this within the GT or does it just happen ??

  • @MikeyGee001 Yes I am using the MIDI connection to change my amp channels.

  • I have a Zoom G1n and it only has 1 input and output. How should I connect it to my amp? I tried connect it to the front input and it sounds like plastic crap, but when I connect my output into the amp fx loop return input, it sounds a bit dark, some amps it sounds bright. So do you have any suggestions that how should I connect my Zoom G1n into the amp?

  • does it works for line pod hd500?

  • Going to try the same thing with my JVM410 and an ooooold BOSS ME-5 (which I think beats almost any modern multieffects unti hands down on the analog side). WIll be interesting!

  • Hi, thks for The vid, i cant mantain The 6505 head tone quality with The 4cm , 3cm, Any suggestion

  • @troglius Does the amp have a serial FX loop?? If you are using the GT-10 for effects you might need to adjust the S/R settings.

  • Hi Gleen! amazing work you're doing for the guitar fx community.. thanks a lot... It is my idea or you are going back to appreciate much the GT-10 as an overall all-round tool for your professional activity? i'm saying this since you also spent some time on tweaking the new POD HDs, but still love the GT-10.. i also experimented with the PODs HD but keep coming back to GT-10, which is amazing thinking that it's a 2006 device!! You also feel like this about the GT-10? thanks, regards from Italy

  • @YetAnotherBeginner Thank you, yes I am still using the GT-10 in my main "A" big rig as shown in this video.

  • Glenn... once again.. great job on the video... the m5 pitch glide is very interesting...

keep up the good work !

    Joe

  • @jdurnya Thank you Joe

  • Great video and explanation Glenn.

Just wondering if you would consider a tree spin doctor?

Its a tube driven overdrive pedal with MIDI and it would be nice if you could check it out?

  • @mhd9890 Thank you I will.

  • Sounds amazing. I think I'm purchasing this amp, after having plenty of discussions with myself. Great demo and amazing playing Glenn. That opening riff, or the riffs, sound great. What is it? Your own making? If so, would you care to maybe create a tab or a lesson thingy for it? Would be much appreciated!

  • I didn't know that the GT-10 worked also for switching channels on an amp. Does this work with every multichannel amp? Once again the GT-10 has proven to be an amazing tool for guitarists.

  • @Aristowi Yes it works with most 2 channel amps.

  • jamming like usual Glenn... the rock man

  • I've been looking for this :)

Where you put the EQ in the chain?

I have a Marshall DSL100, Can I do all this but without the MIDI conection? The DSL don't have it.

    Thanks! :D

  • @JesusTZR Hi Jesus, yes you should be able to do it with that amp. I have one too, you can barely see it in the video at :39 I would put the EQ at the somewhere before the S/R loop block.

  • Almost a Bradshaw rig... really cool! Love your vids...

  • @heliobluesrock Thank you

  • As alaways great and helpfull!!!! you rock

  • I thought the 4CM is used as follows:

    1) Guitar in Input of GT 10

    2) Loop Send into Input of JVM

    3) Effect send of JVM into Loop Return of GT 10

    4) Mono/L Outpout of GT 10 into Effect Return of JVM

I really don´t understand your way doing it and would appreciate an explanation why you do it your way.

Your sound is really great so when I understand your way I could try it on my own.

    Thanx

  • @InviKid Look at my graphic at 3:17. Isn't it hooked up exactly how you describe it?

  • @extremevideopro

oh^^ sry i should have paid some more attention...my fault

I have another question - have you tried using the power amp insert/serial loop instead of the serial/parallel fx loop. I am looking forward to buy a JVM410H and wanted to know which loop I should pick with my GT 10

    Thanx again

  • @InviKid Yes I did. It doesn't work the same. You should use the Serial FX loop on the JVM.

  • @extremevideopro Actually it is the same. It would have been easier follow the signal if you were to swap GREEN text with the RED one. Anyways, awesome demo. Please tell us more about the MIDI merger you have used and how you have configured it.

  • @cakire82 Hey Emrah, the MIDI Merger is a very simple device and there really is no "configuring". I just come out of the GT-10 into the box and out of the box into the amp and the M5. The GT-10 will switch the channels on the amp and the M5 presets. You have to save the M5 presets to correspond with the patches on the GT-10 in order. For example, patch U-1 on the GT-10 calls up preset 1 on the M5, patch 2 on the GT-10 calls up preset 2 on the M5 & so on & so on . . . .

  • Hey Glenn,

Again a fantastic and inspiring Demo-vid. What kind of guitar you are using ?

  • @ebsman Thank you, I'm using 2 guitars in this video. The first is a Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro and the second is a Fender American Stardard Strat HSS

  • Holy mother of God... That's just awesome sounding.... I think the end result was worth all of the frustration, huh?

  • @Rendclaw Yes I think it was.

  • oh & 1 request, can you do a Bridge of Sighs video. Robin Trower is also one of my all time favs. Thanks.

  • Awesome job, but where have you been man, it's been like 5 months between videos. Nobody does demos like you do. Your sound is huge!!!!! Did you move away from the HD500 or is this just your live rig? I know it's morphed a few times over the last few years.

  • @robsangg Thanks, it hasn't been that long. My last videos were in June for Traynor. Yes I'm still using the HD500 just not with this rig.

  • Too Rolling Stoned and Day of the Eagle ... AWESOME job Glen. You should try out the Trower custom shop Strat if you ever get a chance. The neck is like a baseball bat, but it plays like butter. It's the favorite in my herd.

  • @Stratomacaster Thank you, yes I'd love to get my hands on Robin's signature model.

  • THAT INTRO SOUNDS HUGE!!!

  • @MattCornwell LOL, Thanks Matt, well I did double track it so it does sound rather thick doesn't it. :-D

  • Works great with the HD 500 as long as your amp has a true series effects loop. Use this for my live rig. gives you great versatility that way.

  • Nice to see you back in action, Glenn. I thought you dropped off the face of the earth. I'd love to see some more HD500 Tips & Tricks. The last one you posted was just a tease. :D

  • @Klif Hey Clff, no man I'm still around. I have just been so busy I've had no time to do the video stuff.

  • Hi Glen, I would personally like to thank you, as I specifically asked you about this method, and as promised you made the video you said you would. I am sure this will be a very well rated video, as I am sure you will be helping a lot of guitarists out there, unleash the potential of their equipment. Excellent demo, excellent detail and as always excellent playing!

    Thanks, Matt.

  • @MattCornwell You're welcome Matt

  • Respond to this video... You're welcome Matt

  • so you can send one half of the chain to the front of the amp and the other one after the preamp?? how does that work?

  • @livio1396 Livio, As I demonstrate in the video, once you have the cables hooked up you can move the S/R block to the end of the chain. See 7:16

  • @extremevideopro but is that like thanks to the amps midi thing or is it a feature of your boss gt10?... because i'm pretty sure i can't do that with my current amp and my pod x3 haha (i'm just trying to educate myself :P)

  • @livio1396 No it has nothing to do with MIDI. If your amp has a Serial FX loop then yes you can do this with the X3-Live. Do a google search for this: benvesco x3-live 4 cable method

You will find the diagram for your X3-Live unit.

  • @extremevideopro oh ok man thanks a lot!!

  • Great, as always Glenn. Are you planning on doing anymore HD500 videos?

  • @gdkzen Thank you, i might try to do this same thing with the HD500 when I get some more free time.

  • Great Video Glenn, thanks alot...

  • @JohnERock You're welcome Johnny, thanks for watching.

  • great video as usual... cheers! very interesting!

  • @beewoy Thanks Ross

  • Nice setup...

  • @MrVAV23 Thanks Albert

  • Hi Glen, thanks very much for posting that demo. I already have a JVM205H and a pod HD500 but have not had them connected up using the 4 cable method, you have probably just opened up a whole new world of sounds for me. Would it be possible to take the output from the HD500 direct to a recorder or would it come from the line out on the JVM?

    Thanks again.

    Mick

  • @metalmickage Hey Mick, well if you are using the 4CM you could take the line out from the back of the amp.

  • Sounds great! Glad you finally got this working. Good explanation of how the 4CM works for the uninitiated. Thanks for the shout-out!

  • Respond to this video... Karl, thank you for all of the help you gave me on this project. I had given up 3 times but I kept trying till i finally got it.

  • Very Good. You should do a line 6 hd500 vs gt10 comparison video, would help me and many other people a lot.

    Cheers :)
