  • hello this is helping out a lot thank you do you have to take off the servo to take the pump off i need to change the pump and not sure if i got to take out the servo thank

  • @rayjr440rt I'm not sure if you must remove the servo before removing the pump, but it is very easy and I would recommend it.

  • obst41 , Thank You, and yep, all gears are perfect, just second is gone. I have a rebuild kit, but the one and only thing I have never done is rebuild a trans, and if theres a more simple fix like the servo, or just the band ,I would rather keep it simple, and save the rebuild kit for when I DO need new clutches and what not. But yeah, the trans is perfect except for 2nd gear.

  • Very well done video. If you don't mind me asking for a little advise, I have a 2000 Trans Am with the 4l60e . For some time it seemed like it was slipping just a little bit while turning a corner. Now, second gear is gone completely ,all other gears are fine, it will go to third eventually, or I can get it into third by letting off the gas and then reapplying the gas. TC lockup is normal, and the fluid is not burnt at all. Could this be the 2-4 servo and or the 2-4 band and input drum worn?

  • @centerstageproductio That's a tough one. 2-4 band might be worn, but it goes into 4th fine right? I hate to say you are due for a rebuild if it is something else, but that's what it seems like.

  • Did you have to remove your starter to get to the tc bolts or did you use the circular access window-thing?

  • @memorycdrew Removed the starter, it is virtually impossible to do it through that access port.

  • I thought the video was very well done, my hats off to you. But please dont think Im being rude when I say you are setting up a death trap with those jack stands on the crossmember like that. They are Y shaped for a reason, I understand you need maximum lift out of them for a trans swap but please, for your safety, dont put the crossmember on "top" of the Y!!!!!!! I am a retired mechanic and I just dont want you to get hurt or killed. But aside from that I thought it was a really good video.

  • @davecross1 Thanks I will keep that in mind.

  • where is a good place to buy all the parts for rebuilding the trans?

  • @themasterazz I got a solid full rebuild kit on ebay for a good price, 150 bucks for pretty much every replaceable part. "transdeals4u" was the seller in my particular case.

  • @themasterazz Go to Ebay, look up top line transmission parts , if you dont see what you need just drop them an e-mail @ they will list it.

  • hey i have a question i have 94 chevy wit a el80e n it shifts hard from 1st into 2nd wat would causes it

  • @874christopher If you check the video description there is a list of common breaks/fixes. It sounds like descriptions 2, 3, or 4 may apply to you.

  • how do u tell if ur transmission is a m30 on the side of the transmission .

  • @chevy5030 You should be able to know just from what vehicle you have. If you have a 4 speed lateral (rwd) and it isn't a heavy duty truck or corvette, it is pretty much a 4l60e.

  • u got the job done, but that was not a complete rebuild...

the anti clunk spring and reverse sprag and what not was not removed

  • I like your system of using foam as both a bolt holder and a rough diagram of where they go, thats pretty smart. Also would have been a good time to install a trans oil drain plug so its less messy to change filters or service it in the future. nicely done!

  • Now this is a vid.is worth watching! You would make a great instructor, very well spoken, intelligently done, and your patience and step by step explanations have given me the confidence to take on a rebuild..I thank you..

  • @sw35071 wow thanks!

  • Continued... I have pulled the tranny, looks like a fresh rebuild, which is concurrent with what I was told, new tranny about 10k ago. NO metal in the pan, beautiful red good smelling fluid, it does leak alot from the pan gasket and spedo thingy.

  • @bgkntryguy If you check the link on the details there are a few ideas, here is what might be your problem: 11. No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter: ShiftA solenoid failed Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans or PCM. Needs diagnostic testing.

  • I have a question, since I see you are pretty knowledgeable and are helping others out. I have a 93 chev pickup, and the other day, I lost 1st and 4th. 2nd and 3rd work... I think it trys to start out in third if I have it in 3 or 4, but if I shift into 1 or 2 it starts out in 2nd. Also, if I let it sit a bit, it will start off in 1st gear for about a quarter mile, or 500 feet or so, dont remember. Any ideas?

  • Awesome video, thanks for the work on this!

  • thanks for the links

  • yep, Looks like I'm not doing mine! I'll take it out and drop it off at a shop for a rebuild. Thanks for the info!!! Great video!

  • @cadipunk918 Lol, always a good choice, when in doubt, take it to a shop. There is a shop here that will do all bench work on a full 4l60e rebuild including a rebuilt torque converter for $250. Even after doing a couple of these myself for fun I would still happily pay that much for a shop to do the rebuild work.

  • @obst41 When you say bench work, does this mean the trans has been removed from the vehicle, THEN the bench work is performed?

Multistate Transmission here in Michigan wants an estimated $780.00 just for the labor of removing and re-attaching my trans. This didn't include any parts. Do you know of any place in Michigan that is honest yet affordable? Thank you in advance for your advice.

P.S. Great video! You've compartmentalized each phase...gives a clearer understanding!

  • @joeaveragecitizen1 Yes, bench work comes after the transmission has been removed. This video details all "bench work". For an amateur, it may be advisable to hire a professional to do the bench work because it is very easy to make a mistake rebuilding the transmission and you won't know you made a mistake until you put everything back together. Removing and removing the transmission is difficult, labor intensive, and expensive, but hard to mess up, so it is very amateur friendly.

  • @joeaveragecitizen1 $780 is not an unreasonable price for a 4l60e removal/reinstall. Typical price for remove, rebuild, install, is usually in the neighborhood of 2-3k for parts, labor, tax, everything. Prices do vary considerably though and if you if you find the right mechanic at the right time you might get everything done for much less. I did everything in this video for less than $100.

  • @obst41 What City does this $250 rebuild guy live in? I would gladly drive a few hundred miles just so the rip off artists here dont get the money. E-mail me... bgkntryguy@yahoo.com

  • @bgkntryguy Oklahoma City.

  • Incredible!!!! Would love more!

  • Very helpful. Thanks!!!

  • Hey i have a 97 chevrolet s10 and i dont have no reverse and it slips through 1st to 3rd would it do me any good to rebuild it or just get another transmission what would cause the reverse to go out

  • @akers3001 Yikes. Per my link in the details:

    8. 1st and 3rd only, no 2,4 or R: Sunshell is fractured or splines are sheared off. Transmission must be removed and rebuilt. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.

  • @obst41 Thanks im glad you said something because me and my dad drove it for about a month and parked i still run it around the house but i wont run it anymore thanks for the info on it man any word of advice about the rebuild

  • @akers3001 Just take your time and be careful, it's a very complicated task.

  • @obst41 Thanks im going to try to either rebuild it or get another transmission i found a brand new one from thornhill gm for $350 its still got the recipt to it and everything the boy who has it put it in his blazer and wrecked it a week later.

  • @akers3001 If you are certain it is compatible then that's fine. There is a guy here in okc that will rebuild a 4l60e bench work only for $250, you have to remove it and put it back in, I think that sort of thing is the best option if you don't want to rebuild it yourself.

  • @obst41 Thanks for everything i believe i might tackle the rebuild in a couple weeks

  • @akers3001 Glad it could help!

  • 5:10 You don't need to remove the anchor pin to get the input assembly out. I have worked on these before and what I do is pry the 2-4 band off the anchor pin and then remove the input assembly...... to each their own though :-)

  • I have a 1984 gmc suburban 3500k shifts okay into second at 35 miles per hour at 55 it shifts into 3 and slips till I floorboard it but at a high rpm and over drive wont kick in can u help me please

  • @gmcjoshua Your 3rd and 4th gear clutches are worn out and need to be replaced. You will need to rebuild the transmission.

  • how did you lower the tranny?..did u use a regular floor jack?....im trying to do mine on my 02 silverado.

  • @SOTORA619 yes I used a floor jack, two actually. I had two friends help with that part though and I do not think it should be attempted solo without a transmission jack. And even with friends a tranny jack is very helpful. You can get one a combo floor jack/tranny jack a parts store or harbor freight for less than a hundred bucks.

  • I like your video alot .If you want to I can draw you up a set of prints to make a trans stand for yourself using CAD no charge since I learned something.

you can weld the stand or ill put what size bolts you will need.no charge free

  • @arbitor1701 Sure, you can PM it to me or just post it here so others might be able to reference it. Thanks!

  • @obst41 As soon as get some things done ill put it in a format so everyone can read and when done you can put it on Youtube for yourself and get more views.Im gone to try and make it variable so it can be adjusted for differnt trans

ill see what I can design for you and tell me to make changes if needed you know Proto typing.
