  • the cat had the best view in the house.

  • This is pretty pants compared to the Mega Drive's version. That said, it did come out three years after this version.

  • So much better than the C64 version eh Steve :)

  • @atarileaf Just a little :D

  • burt likes the amiga version lol

    kitty cameo FTW!

  • Haha!! Nothing like a 10am Super Hang On bender to end the day. I dunno how you avoided crashing for so long with the cat's head in the way.

Re: the mouse controller: it's better than the nonresponsive arcade bike controller thing on which I once played Super Hang On in Ilfracombe! That thing was broken as hell.

  • You are on planet ZZKJ - he was the programmer of this game, as I recall.

  • hahah love how the cat joined in for a bit

  • Love cranky Steve!

  • god, that was one of the best game reviews I have ever seen... especially since I can relate to cats doing that type of thing.. hahahaha

  • lol i like bert making an appearance, hes only trying to help :) you cant beat the megadrive version but this looks very good.

  • LOL more from the kitty please!!!

  • Thanks for showing this Steve. Up for acceleration and left and right for steering is a nightmarish control scheme. Many 8 bit and 16 bit home computer racing games sadly use this control scheme.

The Megadrive version is better I think. But then again the Amiga version played by you with a little Felis catus thrown in is priceless of course....

  • Maybe your cat just wants to play too...

I love the way that when you turn a corner, the cat looks round the corner...

  • Berts a legend!!!!!!

  • this video is so damn funny i dont even know where to begin

  • That was hilarious, This didnt show up in my sub box and now I'm glad I went to your channel to see if you made a video. xD

  • Hm, looks decent.

  • When you think about how bad arcade conversions can be on Home Computers, you have to realise that Hang-On is great.

The MD version has bigger sprites and is more impressive, but the Amiga version is still nice and has better quality music.

I still like the Master System version of Super Hang-On, as it's very easy lol

  • @kingstonlj Oh yeah, this is by no means bad, and much better than many of those early Sega arcade conversions that appeared on the Amiga.

If I'd never played the Megadrive version, I'd probably have been extremely impressed.

  • @UKRetroGames Oh god... if Bailey had been up here and as interested in the game, the 32" HD LCD would've been laying on it's back sparking in a somewhat broken manner... lol :D

  • @DandyStranger Oh yeah, cat's think we're their butlers, but it's that arrogance in them that I like. My cat looks at me with this expression that says "You're pretty stupid, but you're okay with that tin opener, so I'll let you stay."

  • Hi Steve,

I've watched something like 90% of your retro videos and I must say that for the funny category, this video is now #1 in my list, replacing my other funniest video from you which was: "UGH! on Dragon 32 vintage home computer" which for some reason makes me roll on the floor!

  • @Starxxon Thanks. I'm always glad to raise a chuckle :)

  • @SteveBenway You sir, are a good youtuber.

  • @SteveBenway You sir, are a good youtuber.

  • i think super hang-on on genesis is best, because of the tuning game mode.

  • @marquis0r That version is definitely better, though the sound on here does seem superior.

  • OMG that was so funny. reminds me of "Mystery Science Theater 3000", but with catz. LOL

You & your pussy(Mrs. Slocombe) have to make some more of these.

  • @jerryjoe88 I wonder how many people get the "Mrs. Slocombe" reference? :)

  • @SteveBenway sad to say it: but I do. My Dad has been watching: "Are you being served?" every night for the last 2 weeks, I think and I've heard that quote numerous times whilst on the PC watching YouTube videos.

I'm not particularly a fan of it, I'm afraid. :(

  • @SteveBenway If it wasn't for KCTS 9(a Seattle public broadcast channel), I would have never known about AYBS. Now, I go to Grace Bro's whenever I can. LOL

  • who cares if most amiga games are like that... its still assy!

  • God that cat is hilarious!!!! I have a cat just like that! Her name is bandit though.......

  • @seano130 Seems a very appropriate name :)

  • This version of Super Hang On looks pretty nice Steve.

  • @jboypacman It's definitely not bad :)

  • I WANT THAT CAT!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Seriously, Steve: I don't think I've laughed so hard at one of your videos, my eyes were watering! That cat has a BIG future in show business!

I don't think this qualifies as a SWILL. More of a: "You've Been Framed" parody. :P

Why didn't the producers of Coronation Street think of this for the Live episode?!? Lol.

I guess I should comment on the game quickly: looks OK from the brief glimpses I got of it. :P

    Good...err...whadyamacallit! :D

  • @AtsumaKarin Please... take him!

Acually, he's not mine, so that's not an option... lol :D

  • @SteveBenway I don't think my parents would allow it either. Damnit! :(

Side-note: when do we get to see the game in the intro that features him? And the one with that girl playing table tennis? Or have I over-looked those?

  • Steve you sound cranky! And your cat disobey you :))

  • @Totumfacky I've never found a cat yet that does what it's told :)

  • Ha Ha very amusing. This was one of the first Amiga games I played and is certainly one of the better Amiga racers around and a very good conversion. The music is very good and I loved hitting the niro boost and hearing that roaring sound. Nice colours, nice frame rate, only thing is the Mega drive has much larger sprites and is faster but crappy sound.

  • I used to play this most weekends with my cousins, fantastic game! thanks steve you always bring back so many great memories :)

  • @Chipsturs It's my pleasure, even when I am being "assisted" :)

  • To be honest. I've never been a fan of the game... on any system.

  • The best version of this game is on Yu Suzuki's Gameworks for the Dreamcast. It is arcade perfect, as well as Outrun, Afterburner, Power Drift, and Space Harrier.

  • @Monacomaverick I've never seen that. No doubt a Japanese import? I really need to get one of those boot disk things for my Dreamcast.

  • @SteveBenway Just a hint: DC Iso zone is your friend: )

  • I saw hang on for the Master System at my local thrift store, but I didn't pick it up due to my lack of a master system. I thought the title sounded kind of silly, as well. Why "hang on"? Why not "Super Motocross" or something?

    Weird.

  • @DemonmachinE Yeah, it is an odd name when you come to think of it. Like you're gonna let go while speeding along on a racing bike.

  • I remember US Gold's conversion of Sega's Super Monaco GP, being particulary awful on the Atari ST.

  • LMAO @ the cat!!

  • Our cat likes to interrupt gaming as well, except ours likes to try and jump in my lap while I'm playing. Then he yells at me (MEOW, MEW, MEOW, MOW), when he can't stay there.

  • @Croooow111 Okay... now I've got the Meowmix song on the brain. Argh! :P

  • @SteveBenway lol... It's been a long time since I've seen that commercial. Now I want to see it again. I'm sure it's on youtube somewhere.

  • Its just me an the kitten playing the game badly.......lol

  • @Tudave I bet he'd play a mean game of Galaxian :)

  • Ha... pussy always has to get in the way of some awful gameplay Steve, the game looks good but the controls should have been better when they did it. = )

  • Hm, this doesn't seem like the worst of the Sega ports to the Amiga. It seems better than most of the ones you've shown though. Also, I see you are having trouble with the Premium Cat Controller. I was really hoping to get one of those.

  • @nightbirdds Definitely one of the better Sega ports.

    LOL@ Premium Cat Controller :D

  • I like this video ! Super Hang-On - Bert's Revenge !!

I think Bert wants to be a biker, Either that or he just wants some credit in your videos ? Awesome cat !

Anyway, I loved Super-hang on ! I have this on my Amiga, although the graphics look better on this version, I'm guessing its an AGA version ? I always wanted it to be Road Rash though for some reason ? :O)

  • @zombieAndy1979 This a standard ECS game, no AGA, so I don't know why it would look better. Maybe super cat'o'vision has improved image quality ;)

  • That cat is awesome!! It might like Pac-Man too??

    Good vid!

  • want to know a good way to scare your cat and keep them static? Play the music video to david bowie's 'life on mars' and you've got them in a trance. well, it happens to mine :P

  • @madcapoperator I'll have to give that a try :D

  • I've been playing No Second Prize for Amiga & Atari ST and that's mouse control only I think. Kind of weird but will be pretty cool once I get used to it.

  • @P5ychoFox I find that a mouse works very well on No Second Prize.... though it's a totally different experience to how it plays on here. This is less twitchy.

  • I admit Steve this video WAS unintentionally hilarious, I almost lost it when the cats head popped up again, you could not have planned a funnier video!

  • @MaximumRD *grins*

I kind of knew what I was doing. I hadn't intended for him to interfere like that, but when he did, I knew it'd be funny to not cut it all out, and just go with it :)

  • the megadrive version was indeed more easy, and pressing UP on the joystick instead of having a different button to acelerate is difficult, but i kept at it back in the time, and i did was able to finish this game. still, the megadrive version was more fun, had bigger sprites, and was indeed more fluid than this. but most sega games (outrun springs to mind) where a complete disaster on the amiga, and this really had that sega arcade feeling, but with smaller sprites :-)

    thanks again 4 sharing

  • @musicmaniac1965 Yeah, this really isn't a bad conversion by any means, and while I don't care for "up to accelerate", it doesn't ruin it like in some games. If I'd never played the Megadrive version, I'd probably be extremely impressed by this.

  • thanks for showing my favorite amiga game that's from sega. this is exelent.

  • Haha, this reminds me of my cat when I play Centipede or something like that. She will frigging pounce on the screen with such games, looking on top of and behind the TV to see where the bugs are coming from, it's funny at first but not when you're *trying* to play!

  • @phreakindee The other cat that lives upstairs, Kizzy... she's appeared on ICanHasCheeseburger, chasings aliens around while I was playing Galactic Attack on the CoCo.

  • Anther slogan for a shirt there Steve! "BERT SOD OFF!" lol!

  • @PompeyGamesRoom Haha... now there's a thought :D

  • Your cat must like computer games as much as you. Bert Just wants a go of super hang on is all. :P

  • @brownaleboi He wants to grab the bikes and eat them :D

  • HAHAHAH! Best review ever (sorry it's not a review it's just so you can see what it's like) I have the same problems with my kittens, no matter what I'm trying to do the buggers will get in the way somehow. I was laughing through the whole thing. Maybe you should do a list of games your cats can spoil very easily :-)

  • @paulpetroleum They could spoil ever game very easily, but I usually shut them out of the room when I'm recording. I could see the humour in it while I was doing this though, so decided to just go with it :)

  • I had years of enjoyment with Super Hang-on on my Megadrive. Brilliant game!

  • @skankingrudeboy Same here :)

  • "Oh for f***s sake"

Brilliant at 3.11 when the cat pops its head up again :D

  • @spiderchoc I was unsure about leaving the swearing in there, but it seemed to express my frustration in an appropriate manner :)

  • It's like you are riding on the back of a giant cat rather than a motorcycle at some points.

  • My local school used to have a yearly games competition at their easter fayre each year, and one year it was Super Hang On ont he Amiga. I won it and got a Forrero Roche Easter Egg :D

I think they also did Rick Dangerous on the Amiga one year too, Which I think I also won

  • @LarryBundyJr Ferrero Roche? Damn... I'd have asked if I could take the Amiga home instead ;)

  • @SteveBenway Lol, they are indeed the finest chocolates one can buy in a petrol station!

  • Im sorry to say steve but this is by far your worst video yet (however somewhat entertaining), haha. I love how the cat leans with the bike though!

  • @bjoran83 Sometimes it's not all about being informative... it's about humour and entertainment value.

  • @SteveBenway Dont get me wrong, i agree totally. Looking forward to your friday talkie by the way, they are allways interesting! Have a good weekend! By the way, which version of super hang on do you recommend?

  • @bjoran83 The arcade version aside, I've only played 3 versions... this, the Master System and the Megadrive versions. I'd go for the Megadrive version every time.

  • super cat hang on.

  • 1:06 gratious pussy scene

  • I didn't realize that Super Hang-on consisted of racing a giant kitten verses a group of motor bikes. That must be the "super" part of the game. Mouse control indeed.

  • @yadabub This is the boss level ;)

  • I feel your pain. My cat Leeloo is a spoiled brat :). She actually isn't allowed in my game room because she messes with cords to much and i don't want her ripping down my Wii.

  • @ShinmaRyuu I wish I could keep him from my games room, but it's the biggest room up here, and he has so much energy, he needs to run around, and it'd be cruel to not let him. I usually shut him out of the room when I record vids though, but this time I was just too tired to chase him.

  • Your cat is brilliant. :-P

    3:12 - ... Super Cat-On

  • @AMIworx Haha. He's a nightmare :D

  • This funny one with the cat must have been recorded months ago due to it being in the intro video.

Good job releasing it so we can watch it in full.

  • @wrestletube1 Nope... this was recorded yesterday. The cat just likes to get in front of the TV whenever he can.

  • For something that technically picture wise better than a Megadrive why are the graphics so crap compared to the Megadrive version?

  • @wrestletube1 I'd guess it was a direct port from the Atari ST. These conversions of Sega arcade games often were.

  • At least your cat has good taste in computers and computer games :P

  • earth

  • Super happy happy cat bikers great game -probably

  • looks pretty good.cat likes the game too.

  • @ThePookninja There are 2 cats here that love to watch games. Pity they like being so close to the screen... lol.

  • Me again, yea I LOL'd pretty much through the whole thing. You're going to have to incorporate a quick shot of your kitty's head around 3:10 or so into your intro's. Looks like his head is racing down the track :D

  • Spent many an hour on this with the lads back in the day. Friday night, five goes each with a bottle of beer as the prize lol.

  • @LeShark75 Beer as a prize... now that's something we never did back in the day. I think we missed a trick there :)

  • This game also makes me think of Space Harrier II on the Amiga. I had both versions of that game back in the day, and it's another Genesis port where the console looks and plays better, but the Amiga has an arguably better score.

  • @vincentx77 I think very often the Megadrive games are written my coders who know their machine inside out, while Amiga conversions are often 3rd party coders who not only don't really know the machine, or they're often just doing ports straight from the Atari ST. They rarely stand up too well. But yes, sound is usually better on the Amiga.

  • LOL, kitty loves video games :)

  • @atarileaf He loves anything that moves, and many things that don't :)

  • It may be remember so fondly just because it played fairly well for the time and was rather ubiquitous. I had this game on my NTSC A500 20 years ago, and I think I actually found this one in a store, whereas I had to mail order most games. This is the version of Super Hang-On I remember playing, though I do agree, the Genesis port is a better game, minus the audio (I prefer the amiga there).

  • @vincentx77 I guess I'd have found this really impressive if I'd never played the Megadrive version, so I was fairly biassed when I came to it.

  • Bert is bonkers.

  • @28steryan He's a bloody nightmare. Not content with getting in on my videos or trashing my game room, he attacks my feet when I'm trying to sleep.

  • PUSSY !!

    Err....

Anyway, great game, but yes, up to go forward is a bit of a pain in the arse. I remember getting horrible cramp playing Pitstop II on the C64 because of that control system. Needless to say, my right wrist is now much stronger than my left...

Yep, the Megadrive version is superior. That version is bloody brilliant !

  • 19 am you're out of your mind and your cat keeps messin with you- good stuff

  • Oh... & I think your cat is trying to get on Youtube. Star in the making... ;)

  • Yes Steve, up to go forward... like most racing games on the Amiga. Thought you'd be used to that by now. You've only had 20 years to get used to it.

  • @a3HeadedMonkey You'd think so, but I'm stubborn and refuse to accept that as a viable control system ;)
