You can get sheet UHMW of many thicknesses to make the inserts for your table saw as well. It works great for making inserts for your table saw as well. I use 1/4 inch black UHMW and use my original insert that came with my delta for the pattern. I just use a flush trim bit on my router.

If you want to make good zero clearance inserts for a bandsaw, the round type, buy a couple feet of UHMW rod close to the size you need and and turn it down on your lathe. This way, you can put the shoulder on that you need. Works easy as wood. Best insert you can use. This stuff was designed to provide smooth operation against metal surfaces with minimal mechhanical wear. Lasts forever. Will not dull your blades.

your tablesaw: for long cuts with the grain you run them directly on the table, but for cuts perpindicular to the grain you use that sliding top? is that when and why you use it and did you make it yourself?

cutting perpendicular to the grain= cross cut

the reason why you would use that jig when making cross cuts, is because the area of wood actually in contact with the fence in very small. and it makes it very easy to move out of line. with the jig, it ads a larger fence surface. if you tried to make a cross cut on a normal fence and the wood moves. you would have a kick back. thats not fun.

I hope you live near Toronto, because I'm trying to go to school there, and I'm pretty sure that the robots I'd be studying to make would still be trumped by your wood working.
