@MisAnnThorpe - hadn't thought about that before, but you're right about the Japan thing I think. This was definitely a fave track of mine from this album. The Rio album had a couple of tracks that were superb as well, not their usual chart fair - Lonely in your Nightmare and Chauffeur. Must listen to them again!!
The more I listen to this track the more I'm convinced that it was a deliberate attempt by DD to sound like Japan circa their Quiet life album. Lest anyone thinks I'm having a dig at Duran, rest assured that I'm not. This is the equal of anything on Quiet life, in my, admittedly, not very humble opinion. This is almost as wonderful as Wild boys is unlistenable!
I have been twice in Tel Aviv in 1981. Done the beaches done the nightlife. The music catches the being of Tel Aviv. Simon must have been there a few years before when he lived at a kibbuts.
Can anybody tell me whether that it Rob Dean of Japan playing guitar on this track as if not the similarity has to be more than coincidental? Definitely one of their very best tracks. Just makes you wonder what might have been without Le Bon.
@MsMarimoos you are so very true i am 47 years of age and listened well out there was ozzy bla bla and got called gay now none of those people are barely around to come to my supposed gay funneral
@xavieritolindo I can and all too easily and am bloody thankful that he didn't! I haven't heard this song in almost 30 years and didn't even remember it sounding like this. In my opinion this must be one of the most accomplished things they ever recorded. That being so, you'd have to say that by and large, (good name for a specialist porn magazine I reckon!) they've underachieved in their subsequent output. This is great it could quite easily be Japan.
AWESOME. By far one of the best videos I have ever seen on youtube! I'm a huge fan of Duran Duran and this song. I really, really like what you have done. Thank you very much:)
this tune has been in my head for a week, and for the life of me i couldnt recall it,and then i rememerd it was after friends of mine,i love it,i love duran for all my life.
ive had this in my head for a few days, and i couldnt figure it out ,but i did, thanks for this,i wouldnt say its a song, its more of an instremental, makes me shiver.
Apparently Duran Duran never released this song with lyrics but i have read claims that there is a bootleg out there from a Duran Duran concert when they performed this song (Tel Aviv) with lyrics, i would also love to hear it but just can´t find it on the net.
This is an awful recording... if you ever use vixy to convert this song... you can hear the person typing on their keyboard in the background.... Other than that its an awesome song.
good beginning to your music video, excellent match cuts and good use of digital effects I thought. The middle and ending were a bit of a let down but great job for the start
this piece is just more evidence that these 5 guys esp. nick and john were unadulterated genuises. and they were labled as tenny bop girl band. almost 30 years later. beatles, led zep, etc etc DD belongs there
Yeah, Nick Rhodes wrote the keyboard part to this when he was 16 or 17 years old. Incredible. DD belong with the Beatles and ahead of Led Zep, whom I love but who always had too few musical ideas for the length of their songs, IMO.
I can only imagine, even today, what video they could have done with this song. wow. Thanks for sharing!! you are right. Even today, this song is Fanfuckingtastic!!
No doubt, most the songs from their 1st album were masterpieces and mysterious sounding. This is my fav DD tune, and there's never been anything quite like it. I don't know why but I never cared for their radio songs but I love all the B-sides like 'Late Bar' and 'Khanada'.
A weird ,obscure masterpiece. Considering the fact that their average age was about 19 years old at the time, one might wonder how on earth they pulled this off so well. For the time being, those strings should've sound quite cheesy, but in turn the whole arrangement sounds absolutely top-notch! Their were simply a lot of songs from that 1st album that had this very mysterious atmosphere over them, which made the album an irrepeatable masterpiece.

Nice video! And I didn't understand the end at first, but I guess we've entered the sun and saw the title and author of the song...

@MisAnnThorpe The guitar player was Andy Taylor. No relation to John, or Roger, who aren't related either.

you could imagine this being used in another Bond film, they should defo think about doing another theme for the latest film ( if it ever comes out).

@tyrrath You should go into comedy. Beethoven also tended to compose pieces that had 'too few musical ideas' for their dura(n)tion!

They were indeed brilliant musically. I think they were heavily influenced by David Sylvian and Japan.

David Slyvian and Japan who? Sorry Mate, I don't care the background but my favourite band for the past 30+ years has a ripper of a new album!
You are right, however, Duran Duran, is brilliant!
