@johnnycheck99 Saying there is a succesful future of a Aussie finger spinner is like saying there is a succesful future for Ponting's bowling. Note how Warne was a wrist spinner.
Sadly finger spin is an under-appreciated art in Australia. I'm an offie living in Perth and the fact that every mug with a bat thinks they can stick me over mid-on works to my advantage, something most of them don't understand until they're walking back to the pavilion.
Yeah, but see the way those blokes actually give the ball a hard twist. On Australian pitches - well, Sydney on a bad day excepted - you won't get the ball off-line unless you give it a real twirl. Try it in Perth, and you'll see what I mean. But you can take wickets with bounce, air and nagging length, and if you can get the odd one to move, Bob's your uncle. They won't know if it's going to go or not, and that's what you work on.
@richdownes89 That's true, and on pitches like that a spin bowler needs to try and deceive the batsman in flight with drop and drift, and with different paced deliveries.
Study bowlers like H Singh and Graeme Swann get a lot of wickets due to this, but that might be down to the sheer amount of revs they get on the ball too. A good tip Razor02134 is to practise variation what kester41 says, Daniel Vettori does this. =)
@dragon2712 I don't recognise him, that's all. He isn't about flight and variations, but he does his job well and gets wickets (bats a bit too, lol). So I understand that.
that was true of the Hauritz of old, but these days he's all about flight and variation, which is why I like him so much. Also a very attacking spinner, which isn't common these days.
@dragon2712 well yeah, problem is he can get hit for sixes, on a good day, because he relaxes to much, I don't think Australia bowl him as often as they should. If he could bat as well as Warne could, then he would be a very apt replacement for him.
Im a finger spinner, infact, i ONLY use my fingers to generate my spin, i dont even cock my wrist during the delivery, i use a standard bowling action except i flick my wrist and my fingers right at the release.
@liambannin cocking the wrist allows you to have different variations, and a bit of extra bounce. Your missing out on alot if your not cocking your wrist
I think Dan Cullen still plays for South Australia but I think he got dropped from Australia because hes always being a douche. Im not sure but Bajji should go and slap Cullen then he might stop being a wanker.
@suckmy100inc depends on who is bowling the finger spin, if he is attacking like G. Swann, it is entertaining but if it is like a part timer, i have no doubts it can be bleeding boring
People who reckon leg spin is better then offspin jus dont kno the art of gettin wickets with offspin. It is surely a challenge a to get wickets with offspin, because u need variety, thats the art of offspin.
@johnstonl01 I do off spin, off spin is awesome! Much more spin than leg spin. I also do leg spin, kinda worthless in my opinion. A left handed batsman easily smashes it for a four or blocks it every time...
Yes it is, and i often enjoy bowling to leftys because if you pitch on the stumps and spin it away, they have to play at, mainly because of where it has pitched.
@johnnycheck99 it can be difficult cause you cant impart as much spin and variety, u just need more subtle variations, thats how an offie can fool a batsmen
These all are off spiners and they are eant to b finger spiners as off spiners hardly use their wrist and all aussie who lost spin charm after warnie and i dont think the all can take as much wickets as warnie teok
Leg spin is probably more effective than off spin overall, but you simpy cannot say that all us offies would rather be leg spinners.
I prefer offspin for a few (hard to explain) reasons. I just love the feel of the ball when bowling off spin and there are a few other aspects that I prefer over leg.
@qwer938 try 98% of finger spinners wouldnt. I agree with finger spinners cant do wrist spin, its like saying saying Adam Gilchrist bats right handed because he cant bat right hander.
He's Dan Cullen, where is he now? Struggling to bowl well in grade cricket, let alone FC. Gone off the boil massively, with an FC ave of 44, he doesn't deserve to be any where near the team.
wow that LB that Casson gets agains the left handed queenslander.
Watch the ball. It drifts with the spin and then straightens in the air.. if only hje could perfect that. Interesting stuff seeing as conventional drift drifts the opposite to the spin.
Finger spin in Australia is almost a dead art. You look at the top domestic bowlers, blokes like Krezja & Hauritz take their wickets at around 50. Australian decks generally don't favour finger spin (Muralitharan and Harbhajan's returns on Australian grounds is pretty average).
You pretty much need wrist spin for Australian conditions, and Australia don't have a world-class wrist spinner ATM. I'd say if your best bowlers are all quickies, just pick quickies. Didn't hurt the Windies
I think Hauritz and Krejza are the right men for the job at the moment. As for one day cricket I'd say Hauritz (most experienced) and Doherty. Either way we need to pick a spinner and stay with them.
