1. Gps is better with real time turn by turn directions. (iphone dosesn't have)
2. Video camcorder (iphone doesn't have one)
3. MMS (iphone doesn't do this) just to name a few.
I would rather have better hardware because with hardware your phone is what it is.
Software can be updated and once Sprint and Samsung update the software issues with the email and applications ect... This phone will defiantly be an iphone killer...
That's not hardware you idiot. Those all have to do with software. If Apple wanted, they could send out an update that could make all those things happen.
(2) I'm a Mac desktop & notebook user, but also use Windows desktop & WMobile Phone, so there's no platform snobbery from me. I use both & I'm an integrationist, way past caring about which platform: I just want it to work, fit my needs & price.
WindowsMobile out the box is a typically crappy MS product w/ 5-years-out-of-date UI. But once "XDA Developers" got hold of it, they've created apps & ROMS that make WM perform all iPh functions except video vmail; and adds the 4 key functions above.
(3).. ooops, forgot the biggie, & just wanted to correct what I wrote above: that iPhone 2.0 now has 3g. Europe has 3g, but T-Mobile in USA? Nowhere near it. iPhone still outperforms WM with 3g, visual voicemail & multi-touch.
My sticking point about buying an iPhone is availability in USA only thru AT&T. On principle that they engage in illegal domestic spying of every single phone call & web server-hit in USA is something I simply will not support. Jobs sees it differently. Me? Dealbreaker.
there's a third option.. Buy a Nokia. Nokia phones has had 3g for a looong time now, and also the first company to include GPS in their phones, and Symbian OS has SO many applications.. And hey if you want a touch phone with LOTS of features and a whole year of free music downloads.. Look at the Nokia 5800.. (NOTE: It's still not out).. (NOTE2: There's another Nokia touch phone that's going to come out, but it's going to be better since it's going to be a Nseries phone).
also quicksite, Apple's iPhone is kind of similar to MS but instead of having a 5-years-out-of-date UI, the iPhone is a 10-years-out-of-date spec phone. =/
Oh come on, it can't be THAT bad as a piece of equipment... but I get your overall point... that you believe Nokia has advanced better in both device internal design & specs, and touchscreen apps.
I want to amend my comments above, which were before the G1 phone from HTC was brought to market by T-Mobile. So T-mobile must have some 3g networking completed? As for Android OS, i think it spells major trouble for MS FOR SURE, and for iphone, competition.
Well, I don't just believe that that Nokia has a better internal design & spec, I know it for a fact; look at the specs of the Nokia phones vs the iPhone. I never said anything about touchscreen apps.. I said apps. I was just suggesting a third option on which to buy a nokia phone (which they also will release a nokia touch phone soon)..
Sure the iPhone has an appealing multi-touch feature.. but that's pretty much it for that phone.. sorry to say that.

Instinct's hardware is superior to iphone by far.

Jason, nice review & well done.
Could you tell me if this is accurate: For those who love the iphone-designed touch&slide interface & app-launcher, there are, nowadays, 2 options:
(1) buy the iphone -- and it's going to perform those functions perfectly
or..
(2) buy a Windows Mobile device (either T-Mobile's WING, or any HTC-Windows Mobile device, and run "iphone-like" UI & apps on it.
WM phones shoot video, have multimedia messaging, GPS, freehand-to-text recognition, and VoiceCommand. ?
