  • "Prince of Darkness" most underrated.

  • ALL HAIL JOHN CARPENTER

  • Fuck this is the most pimp old man ever.

  • I hope this girl is now waiting tables somewhere out in the Arizona desert.

  • @TheSalobrena No shit, The Salobrena!! Ha ha *giggle* I'm being a gushing idiot and I like to tell you what today's special is * Giggle*

  • He was great in Body bags as the narrator/host, reminded me of beetlejuice.

  • Hi, do you know where i could find his oldest shortcurts ?

  • luv halloween. like the thing and the fog and assault on precint 13. now gotta watch they live =D

  • @spyrothedragon590 They Live is great! :D Don't forget about "Prince of Darkness" and "In the Mouth of Madness". Those two are exceptional in their own ways. The atmosphere in "Prince of Darkness" is top notch creep factor!

  • @ahhhhjjjj yer i think i will watch those films but i'm pretty sure halloween will still be his best.

  • john carpenter says he met kurt russel in 1978 stating that was 31 years ago, making this interview 2011 yet you posted this vid in 2006.... did you use time travel to steal this from the future (now present)?

  • @cloudig

Ha ha That's exactly what i just thought.

  • They Live is one of my favorites.

  • This guy has made several of my favorite movies. Hes got a really magnetic essence.

  • Carpenter still has it, check out 'Cigarette Burns' a Episode he Directed for the show Masters of Horror, It aired in 2005

  • Carpenters math is way off. He met Kurt in 78 in which he says 31 years ago, 31 years after 78 would make it 2009 but this vid was added in 2006 :s

  • @24rusguy And 3 years, in the context of 3 decades, is what you call "way off". Interesting. Rock on!

  • THEY LIVE!!!!!

  • I heard he is very shy and doesnt liked to work with new actors. so he always used the same actores, e.g Kurt Russel.

  • thanks for posting this video on youtube

  • If you like John Carpenter's scores check out my channel. I made a concept record that involves deconstructing Carpenter's scores and remixing Lil Waynes tracks with the deconstructed scores. It is super dark and heavy.

  • What happened to you're career lol how many classic films have you made you Twat !

  • That still means that it was a flop...Even if the movie gains a cult following later, it can not bring back those missed chances in a director's career that a successful movie would've.

  • big trouble in ltlle china fl;oped and it was amazing

  • E.T is a terrible film. The Thing is one of my favourites. Bleak, miserable, dark, horrific, funny and genuinely scary at some points. A modern masterpiece. Extra Testicle is the biggest load of schmaltzy horseshit ever commited to celluloid. Ive only ever seen it twice and even then i didnt like it. And another thing !! Why cant people smoke in interviews anymore :P

  • @swanseajackthe3rd E.T. the Extraterrestrial is by no means a terrible film!

  • to all the fans john is making a new movie called the ward i think its called that i could be wrong but he is making a new film

  • WE WANT CARPENTER!!!! COMEBACK TIME

  • @roger6928 How are your English classes coming? -- Moron. Why don't you take your racist shit somewhere else.

  • John carpenter can you do a new movie so that a good movie can finally come out again.

  • he's so flirting with her

  • @roger6928 Used Cars is indeed a work of genius!

  • @roger6928 Was 'Used Cars' a sh*tty movie, in your opinion? o.0

  • Whats with the interviewer?

    Needs a good slap.

  • I didn't know Elvis was in the thing. I thought that was Jim Morrison.

  • he had the "National Police Force" in 1981 or so in the Escape from N.Y. scenario...then sure enough, there is the American Police Force (which is a progeny of Blackwater) it exists and had an operation in Montana (that was short lived). A lot of his ideas ended up occuring. Precinct 13 and the L.A. gangs came out in the late 70s, Colors and the LA. gangs figured prominently in the 80s

  • is he still alive? is he still going to make hes movies?

  • My favourite movie that he did was Halloween!

He is my favourite director ever!!!!!!

  • is this the same guy who was on who wants to be a millionaire

  • He don't need to work he made a ton money off of halloween.

he can do what ever he wants to do.he doesn't have to prove anything.

  • You'll catch some ppl that have worked with him that talk shit about him. Thats only because he's on a higher level.

  • English sappari wayaya---

    wakarimahennen.

    demo kono ossan love.

  • Thanks for posting this but whoever is doing the interview is horrible.

  • John Carpenter one of the greatest American filmmakers big movies like fog escaping new york halloween and his masterpiece the thing unlike spielberg carpenter makes no concessions in his films his movies is real dark and not as stupid movies like et

  • Probably my favorite director of all time....

  • @TRUEMAN8919

I like "ET". If you want Spielberg gone stupid, look no further than "Indiana Jones 4". That film was a joke..

  • i wanna know what he is reading and were he gets his info for the ideas of his movies??? THEY LIVE etc etc

  • John Carpenter you're a genius and you're the best and always will be...I also like Vincent Price R.I.P.

  • a genius director

  • The lady thats doing this interview IS A COMPLETE CLOWN. Does she even know how ditzy she sounds? You would think that any idiot would get a cue from the director here, in his straightforward answering of questions that, um, it may be time to stop laughing, and giggling, and acting like a complete buffoon aint the right thing to do during an interview... But no. The babe from the bimbo-school of clown-interviews just doesnt get it. It really ruins this entire episode.

  • @medartist01 you know i was just about to type the same thing. She sounds so stupid.

  • @medartist01 yeah, thats why he does not casts morons like her!

  • @medartist01 Is this a pro interviewer or did she win the chance to interview Carpenter at film school?

  • KING OF THE 80'S!

  • It's ok...some people are just not that bright :\

  • too much porn mate?

  • "I first met Kurt Russell in 1978, so that's 31 years ago."

    Oh, cool...wait a minute!

If that's 31 years ago, then that would make it 2009.

The video was uploaded in 2006.

    Dun-dun-duuuun.

  • ooooooooooohhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooo

  • @Ulfar22 LOLOL WOW!

  • Nigga looks scary as shit, great director though, love this guy, amazing talent

  • Ya much better then Rob Zombie. Halloween is my fave series by him, next to THE THING.

  • I love his movies.

  • That's bad?

  • yup

  • Why?

  • do some research

  • In to what, exactly?

  • what ever you asked why about

  • Well in that case, my initial question of "why?" is research, given that I was asking you why you thought that pro-socialist elements in movies were bad.

  • well what do you think about them?

  • Well, filmmaking, as with any art form, is a vehicle for expression, if John Carpenter wishes to include socialism in his films and portray it in a positive light, then it is his decision and I respect that.

Now, back to the topc at hand; why do you think that pro-socialist elements in movies are bad?

  • why do you think that its ok?

  • Answer my question first.

  • because it goes against everything this country was built upon

  • That is your sole reason?

  • thats not enough?

  • No, that's fine, as long as it's justifiable to you.

Now, to answer your question. I think it's good that John Carpenter takes a stab at consumerism and greed, it's a different way of thinking, and I applaud anyone who has the balls to stand up and say what they think without caring about what it may do to their popularity or lack thereof.

  • Well if john carpenter made a movie with pro-Nazi elements would you still applaud him for having the balls to stand up and say what he thinks without caring about what it may do to his popularity or lack thereof. After all movie making is a vehicle for expression.

  • You're talking about two different things which shouldn't even be compared to eachother, on one hand you have a different political way of thinking, on the other, you have an anti semitic and incredibly violent group of prejudiced nutjobs. If John Carpenter was to portray such a thing in a positive light, I doubt his films would see the light of day in the first place. So to answer your question; I probably wouldn't know that these pro-nazi films ecisted in the first place.

  • *existed

Excuse my spelling mistakes, where present.

  • Well actually thier not totally diffrent, there only diffrent becase you THINK they are. As a matter of fact they are very simular. If we examin both states that were under the two types of govment that were comparing, both had strict gun control policies, were highly secularized, and killed millions of people. Stalin was rumord to have killed more people then hitler. why should they not be compared, there both represive governments?

  • You're talking about communism, which is different from socialism. Socialism covers a broad spectrum of common ownership based economic philosophies, most of which originated in criticism of the effects of industrialisation and private ownership on seociety. Communism is considerably more extreme in nature, and was Stalin's ideology of choice.

  • so diet coke versus coke? doesnt matter its still coke.

  • That's not how it works at all, communism and socialism are two different things.

  • not really.

  • Well, thanks for a good discussion, but I can't see this going anywhere from this point onwards, seeing as we'll both just end up repeating the same points again until someone gives up, and I don't have the time for that.

    Have a good one.

  • that chick is really excited that john carpenter is there.

  • Comment removed

  • God I love this man.

  • What happened to John Carpenter's career.? He was one of the best directors in the business from 1976 to about 1983. His last decent movie was They Live which was made in 1987 I believe.

  • 89 actually.

  • Try 1988. Haha.

  • @jchalloweenfan It says They Live was made in 88 on imdb

  • @jchalloweenfan 88 actually

  • @jchalloweenfan

    88 lol

  • Dude..you didn't like Vampires??

  • @wowgreenmetal82 Prince of Darkness was a year after They Live, and it's also really good...but yea...after late 80s...that's about downhill.

  • @wowgreenmetal82 He did a great episode with the Masters Of Horror collection.

  • @wowgreenmetal82 , I believe you... I mean, the guy is just too real for Hollywood. He just appears very uncompromising. Its like that Carpenter was ahead of his time, and really took horror and what was happening. Very dark, disturbing films. He went a different route with Escape from L.A., Vampires and really lost it with Ghost of Mars. Im hoping he makes a come back.

  • @wowgreenmetal82

Eh, I thought Mouth of Madness was pretty good...it bit off a bit more than it could chew, but it was a great idea for a horror film. But, yeah, since then...he's been more like his imitators than his imitators are.

  • @wowgreenmetal82

Wrong! hes last good movie was,

In the Mouth of Madness!! quite underrated!!

  • @26psyside Wrong! Vampires is better than In the Mouth of Madness!!

  • @26psyside

    Sure lol.

  • @wowgreenmetal82 Do you honestly believe he could have sustained the kind of creative genius through his first four films? as with any creative type decline is inevitable, it happens to musicians/pop-stars, Carpenter is no different. He is well past his best but his contribution to film is enormous and cannot ever be denied. He's not getting any younger and I imagine he's taking a back-seat and concentrating on enjoying the twilight years free from fans expectations. Good luck to him I say.

  • @wowgreenmetal82 "They Live" was released in November 1988, at least here in the States. Personally, I don't think his movies ever fizzled. (Okay, "Ghosts of Mars" was weak, but that was more the writer and Ice-T's fault.) Otherwise, I love pretty much every Carpenter film. Of his post-80s work, "Vampires" is my third-favorite of his, "Village of the Damned" is a remake that eclipses the original, and "In the Mouth of Madness" is an vastly underrated little horror film.

  • @MikeAM78 it was ice cube

  • @MikeAM78

To be honest, Carpenter's always been a hit-and-miss director. For every "Halloween" you get "Memoirs of an Invisible Man", for every "Escape From New York" you get "Escape From L.A.", and for every "Prince of Darkness" you get "The Ward".

  • soooooooooo high in the begining

  • HARDEST MAN ALIVE Part 2 = 2:38

  • Fuck you Souser you little dumb fuck, John is a much better director than you'll ever be as well as rob zombie. His films rock, all of them too.

  • wow this guy is amazing thanks John for u being out great movies they all rock!

  • HARDEST MAN ALIVE= 1:37...

  • Who on earth is the ditzy airhead broad interviewing him? God, she's annoying and John thinks so too. Look at his face while she's giggling at 2:35!

    Every picture tells a story!

  • John is a legend. What a guy.

  • so, why don't they just interview kurt? they seem obsessed with asking john about kurt.

  • The Thing flopped? thats fuckin ridiculous. I'm not sure why that bothers me so much, but it is such an amazing film. It seems so accessible too, and possibly the best "remake" film i've ever scene.

  • I'm right there with you on "possibly the best 'remake' film", that and the '79 Invasion of the Body Snatchers, also a great film.

  • He met Kurt Russell in 1978, and now that is 31 years ago? So said Carpenter 29 seconds into this. And this was posted in 2006? Doesn't add up. But he's great at his work, nonetheless.

  • His finest work was The Thing. Im amazed that it flopped at the time.

  • It was because of ET that Thing flopped.

  • Not all of his films are amazing. I wasn't really all that found of Dark Star, and even though some people think the Thing is suppose to be awesome it just looked like a cheese-swiss budget horror movie when compared to other films. However, Halloween was phenomenal for its time, Star Man a Sci-fi thriller with a romantic theme opened new doors too, and despite what Hollywood and critics said Big Trouble in China town was an entertaining film that was unique in its own right.

  • watch what you say about the thing, man. EFFECTS!

  • is best films and books

    awsome best the thing

very great escape from new york

    very good IT

    brill green mile

    amazing the night shift

    good assault on precinct 13

  • the interviewer is useless

  • John has aged fast =( maybe because ive been doing too much salvia

  • somebody bitch smack the interviewer please

  • I've only seen The Thing and I really enjoyed that so could some1 tell what the next horror film he made was called thanx

  • Look him up on IMDB.

  • I haven't watched all his films yet,but I also really enjoyed The Thing.I watched In The Mouth Of Madness tonight which was awesome and enjoyable.so give it a try.

  • Who´s the damn interviwer???? I think she never watch a frame of john´s films, she doesn´t know what´s he talking about, she doesn´t know Kurt Russell... what a waste!!! "Scared straight" out in september 2009!!!

  • i love the cynical sarcastic characters that don't like to show too many emotions but have a job to do,love his music as well

    = my favourite director

  • Is that a trademark of his ? Smoking in interviews ? I've seen a few of them and he's always puffing away.

  • He says he met Kurt Russell in 1978. THEN he goes on to say that was 31 years ago! HUH!? That would mean this interview occurrs in 2009! I didn't realize John Carpenter had invented the time machine! I see that this video was posted in 2006. And I'm not sure how much earlier this interview actually took place. Genius filmmaker... just not exactly a mathematician. At the beginning, Carpenter looked like he was so annoyed! She's asking really goofy questions and she sounds like an giggling kid.

  • very true

  • i knew it couldn't be more than 60 seconds in before he lit up a cigarette

  • the thing 7th greatest horror film of all time. :( why 7?

  • You Suck much?

  • I was only joking, I love all of Carpenter's movies. Christine is also a classic.

  • One of the most hated movies of all time, Carpenter mentions this in one of his interviews. Kurt Russell is a really cool actor though and has been in some good movies

  • I will love if someone make a special edition of Escape from new york, I have Escape from LA, but the first one is rly damn good even if the second one is sort of a clone

  • They do have a special edition of "New York." Its a 2 disc set you can buy off amazon sellers for like 6 bucks.

  • also 'the thing' and 'the fog' are by carpenter along with many other great movies

  • The interviewer is just faked ap.. she sounds like real crap......

  • I agree, worst interviewer ever. But Mr Carpenter is a very down to Earth bloke. Wish he would make more films these days.

  • Thanx for Halloween John Carpenter you are the man.

  • This interview was not meant to be shown in its complete form like it is here. Thats why the interviewer seems so crappy. In the next part she says something offhand about how the interview is for some other documentary, prob about russell. Nothing shes saying would ever end up in the final product, shes just prompting him to spout as much stuff as possible, wording it in different ways so they can take the clips that they actually want and edit them into the piece they were actually making.

  • Yeah, this is interview footage from Kurt Russell's "Biography" on A&E, where the interviewers are never heard. Interesting that this is raw footage instead of just clips from the actual episode, though.

  • great film maker

  • She dident even know what she was saying. Id say John was just staring at her big breasts the entire interview.

  • shut that ditzy interviewer up. carpenter was quite annoyed the moment he lit the cigarette. she must be hot... that's why he tolerated her.

  • Carpenter is the man. True creator of the one true Halloween which rules above all others.

  • stupid ass reporters and interviewers,the worst i've ever seen,this man,john carpenter,is incredible

  • John Carpenter is a genius but you really feel sorry for him in this interview. This bimbo has the worst questions he had to keep repeating himself throughout the interview I swear she asked some questions twice. Funny to watch because you know what Carpenter is thinking here. "oh shit this is the worst interviewer ever"

  • Who the fuck is this dreadful interviewer!?! How dare you be so fucking amateur in front of a genius!!

  • No doubt!

  • Seems like a great subject but I can't watch any more. That interviewer is awful! It seems as though they got a 19-year-old intern to do an adult's job. Very annoying.

  • 1978 + 31 = ??????

    definitely not good at math

  • You ever heard of the amazing new concept of time?

  • yep, I have... but on the other hand, given that it is not yet 2009, it still stands to reason that he was still mistaken... not that it is such a huge deal to me.

  • Ah touche my friend brain fart on my side of the table.

  • he looks like einstein lol

anyway rob zombie whata fuck,he needs a fork in the fucking eye

  • worst interviewer ever, Every follow up tp his answers is " UM WOW UM UM COOL"

  • HALLOWEEN EVIL COMES HOME

    this fall on youtube com

    subscribe

  • THE THING is the best film he ever done

  • the fucking man, keep making movies man, keep me living.

  • John's got one heck of a sense of humor - that "cab doors" remark has got me in tears laughing

  • Is it just me or does Carpenter look more and more like David Lopan as time goes by?

  • You are not here to "get it" Mr. Burton!

  • Yeah now that you mention it. But my first impression, as far as how he looks in this interview, was reminiscent of Lee Van Cleef in "Escape NY."

And I love how he keeps eyeing this girl with contempt. Reminded me of Cruise's character in "Magnolia" when he is interviewd.

  • Un gran director que me regalo momentos inolvidables. "The thing" en el lejano 82 me hizo morir de miedo y todavia hoy lo encuentro insuperable. Los efectos digitales no lograron igualar la estetica y credibilidad de esa joya. Siguen : " Prince of darkness" y "They live"! No me canso de ver estos filmes!!!

Mi juventud y mi corazon agradecen la existencia de un artista ironico, divertido y paranoico como este. Gracias Mr Carpenter!!!!
