I got to tell you..... People here think Salmon is one of the nastiest tasting fish there is. It's way to strong of a fishy taste. We don't eat it at all. Catfish here have some of the cleanest, whitest meat you can find. I garentee if you tried some fried the way we do it here in the south.... you would prefer it over that stinky salmon any day of the week lol. That's why it's a global multi million dollar business in the hundreds of millions of dollars range.

I did a little research on you guys. I don't mind saying I fish here in Louisiana in the Pearl River that goes through the Honey Island Swamp. Ya'll stay cool and enjoy as much as life will give ya and God will bless you all.
You got to watch out using jugs that big. They don't allow any give for the big fish. Smaller jugs like the 20 oz we use work like a drag on a fishing pole. The big fish can pull them down taking stress off the hooks, line, and the fishes mouth making it much harder to get off. Not to mention that even the big fish can't hold a 20 oz very long before popping back up. After you beak a few lines and straighten out a few hooks you'll rethink it. Also you can store way more 20 oz than gallons. :-)

Up here in British Columbia, Salmon rules.
Mostly Sockeye and Coho. All species are way better than Catfish, I'm sure.

I got to tell you..... People here think Salmon is one of the nastiest tasting fish there is. It's way to strong of a fishy taste. We don't eat it at all. Catfish here have some of the cleanest, whitest meat you can find. I garentee if you tried some fried the way we do it here in the south.... you would prefer it over that stinky salmon any day of the week lol. That's why it's a global multi million dollar business in the hundreds of millions of dollars range.

@Jeff3230 I'm from Lousiana too and it's amazing how many people think we eat shit because we don't have a choice. If it comes down to taste I'd have to rank them like this: Specks, catfish, sheepheads and Reds, with Reds obviously being the most fun to catch, but specks and cats taste better. I think salmon taste like fucked up tuna, and there's no way, I'm going to eat salmon before catfish. Keep doing what you guys do, making money doing what you love.

@MrMrtiki Hook a 50 plus Flathead cat sometime. If you don't have heavy line, you'll never land one. Do you ever have flathead cats in B.C.? Don't know Catfish if you haven't tried it. They aren't bottom feeders by the way, most are predators. I've fished in Canada, don't like Salmon. I give them away when I catch them, their fun to catch, suck to eat. Bout like Tuna, you can keep that too. Too fishy, too oily. Northern Pike, Walleye, Muskie, those are great fish.

@Nicodemus98 Put some vinegar in with the meat when canning salmon or cooking will calm down the strength and smell but no I haven`t hooked onto one of those but a sturgeon is simular to a catfish they will where out your day fast.

it's not illegal at all as long as u put up to ur rod limit of jugs in the water like say if ur limit is 3 poles it's 3 jugs, wisconsin is lucky as hell lol they have no limit.

You got to watch out using jugs that big. They don't allow any give for the big fish. Smaller jugs like the 20 oz we use work like a drag on a fishing pole. The big fish can pull them down taking stress off the hooks, line, and the fishes mouth making it much harder to get off. Not to mention that even the big fish can't hold a 20 oz very long before popping back up. After you beak a few lines and straighten out a few hooks you'll rethink it. Also you can store way more 20 oz than gallons. :-)

no the biggest is prolle like some carp that ive caught on poles. and theres nice bass but they wont bite anything.

I thought you might be right on this. But I was looking into it and from what I've seen channel cats are also called blue channel. That's what everyone here call them. I didn't know there was a fish known as just a blue catfish. When I said Blue cat I mean blue channel cat. Or channel cat.
