You can change the power distribution on Evo's... Basically you can set up the car to send more power to the back or front wheels.

@smiddy700 awd gives a certain amount of power where it it needed, 4wd bring power either left or right, front or back to keep it in simple terms, tecnicly a 4wd only powers 3 wheels at a time and a awd drive always has power on all wheels and gives more power to where its needed.

by the way he enters the corner, i think the car is still 4WD.. it's possible for a 4WD to hold the drift that long by re-setting the traction distribution between front tires & rear tires.. making the traction on rear tires much greater than on the front..

AWD is just a marketing term used by manufacturers to seperate road cars from SUVs and the like. AWD cars have 4 wheels, 4 of which are driven, right? So therefore an "AWD" car is beyond any doubt, a 4-Wheel-Drive car. You could also legitimately call an "AWD" car a "4x4" because it has 4 wheels and each of those 4 wheels is a driving wheel- these are all accepted conventions.

All Subaru's fault, but by golly they did their job. Clueless saps shout "It's not 4WD!!!", when CLEARLY it is.

The main reason for the two different terms is mainly the difference in selection of drive type. A vehicle touted as 4 wheel drive usually has a transfer case and 4 wheel drive must be selected to power all four wheels. This type of system being usually designed for off road use only.

All wheel drive almost always refers to a vehicle that transmits power to all for wheels constantly and is driven like this normally. Yes fundamentally the two terms describe the same thing. But IMO AWD is not 4WD
