only wizards, witches, and cats can see death. His scythe and sword can cut through anything, he can freeze time. ride a horse named Blinky that can travel through time. and has a grand daughter Suzann.
I love how Death just nonchalantly walks around as if the fire weren't there, and it was perfectly natural for him to be walking around in plain view.
@lordcrapalot hes actually not invisible. they just refuse to acknowlege his existance, being they are in denial thus dont see him. however he can "insist" on being seen.
@milkandholywater Yes, they edited much of the book from the movie, which is rather unfortunate. I was so looking forward to seeing Rincewind pinned to the wall by the force of a spell in... Krull, I think it was.
THE ONLY OTHER VOICE I COULD SEE FOR DEATH WOULD BE JAMES EARL JONES....Sorry, channeling DeathSpeak there for a second ;)
The only problem with a JEG-voiced Death is that I'd be waiting for the inevitable "NO RINCEWIND, I *AM* YOUR FATHER!" gag ;) (yes, I know D isn't RW's father, it's just the inevitable Star Wars riff...)
Hmm. Christopher Lee works as Death, Jeremy Irons IS Vetinari (apart from the lisp), Sean Aston works as Twoflower, but I dont really care for that character. But David Jason as Rincewind is a bit meh for me; he's a bit too slapstick, not to mention too old. The Rincewind I always thought looked best was the illustrations on the more recent books; like The Science of Discworld ones. Skinny, late 30s, little wispy brown beard, look of constant depression on his face. Perfect :)
Discworld Death is the definitive death. Either that or a perky goth girl (aka Gaiman's Death). They're both equally recognizable, but EXTREMELY different.
You know what they did? They got 7-foot-tall Dane and recorded Chris Lee's voice. This dane would then press a button in the chin of the skull mask which would play the voice clip.
Yay!!! I recognize Christopher Lee voice anywhere, and I think he has the absolute best voice as Death. Richardson was good to, but I have always imagnied Death's voice to sound like Christophers :)
death is a bit nastier in these original novels ... later on he becomes quite pleasent ... in fact there are terminally ill patients who have written to pratchett saying they hope death is just like he is written in the discworld
@whitesentinix Damn man. Now THAT'S a way to go. I fact I DO hope Death is like this. It would be one of the coolest things the Universe could have possibly done.

As good as David Jason was in the role, I can't help feeling that Rincewind ought to have been younger, like in more recent artwork of him...

Hehe. Y'know, I always thought of Rincewind as being younger. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter.

rather more chinese, the Agatean empire is more or less based on China, with a big wall around it, people do as them is told...asian anyways
gaoth88 1 year ago
re scripting twoflower as american was a stroke of genius, in my opinion.
Yamauzura10 2 years ago 2
Yeah, but it messes up the continuity really badly. America may or may not be an Empire, but were not nearly as bad as the Agatean one. :)

It's crazy the personality change Death goes through after the first two books. Christopher Lee was PERFECT for Death.
Death is probably the best character ever.
xD I can't imagine the traditional Grim Reaper anymore either. It always turns out to be Discworld's Death.
DigitalBookWorm 2 years ago 2
Either that or a perky goth girl here... Thanks a lot, Neil Gaiman.

At the german Synchro Death has the same voice like Christopher Lee in other german Synchros (Count Doku, Saruman etc)
There he sounds a little bit more friendly and naive
