I tested a Mercury's RDS system today. In the menu it showed RBDS but once a RDS station was locked it displayed RDS.
Also to the video poster. You have to allow the radio to receive the data text from the radio Station. Like on the 103.9 CISN FM station. The artist was Brad Paisley. But the info only displayed "Brad". You must let the entire text cycle once completely before it all will display correctly. Cool though. Where did you get the radio and did it require a code to use?
@xmaddict Well that's actually incorrect for Name Scrolling and I had this argument with a radio engineer once. There's two types of display methods, PS/PT or RadioTEXT. I think you're meaning radio text, where the display will not show the whole message until the decoder receives the final parity bit.
As for PS (name scrolling) this is always 8 characters long and whatever the tuner is receiving, is what the decoder will send out to the display.
At least in US you have different messages running through RDS, in Uk all you get on RDS is station name and that's it.

@FooNado not always

I would always use The Bounce or The Bear as an RDS reference for where you live as they have the highest injection rates of all Edmonton stations.

That's really odd that an American manufacturer recognizes and implements RDS, which is really a European thing.
"RDS" is also the European name for the protocol; it's actually RBDS in the US.

Nearly all American cars are capable of picking up the RDS, especially GM, but most of the imports are incapable of doing so, depending on the model.

GM is the only one I've ever seen.
