Non-consummated marraige can be dissolve, since it is non-consummated. But once it is consummated, no force on earth can dissolve it.  The Pope can only dissolve non-consummated marraige precisely because it is not consummated but at the request of at least one party, for a just cause. if no party requests for it, or requested it but no just cause, the Pope cannot dissolve it.

We could not make use of the criteria that we have now when evaluating what the chuurch did many yrs ago. its just fair that we take into accnt the circumstances of the time before making judgment on certain matters. What would you do to your family when it is under attack from damaging forces?Would you allow them just to go around and do their own thing?The time when the church was under attack, church authorities gathered her children and protect them from errors.

one is free whther to join or not to join the catholic church, but once he is in, it's just logical to observe its rules. if you dont want to obey, then get out and live your own life. Children, once they reach majority age (18) are free to stay or not in the catholic church. Church authorities have the responsibility to protect their faithful from errors. But once you decide to stop being catholic, just get out of it. you have all teh freedom to do so.

Hi Dave. I was born into a catholic family. My dad & mom divorced many years ago & my dad, although a devout catholic, was not able to receive the eucharist until the marriage was annulled.
