Pretty cool. I just started experimenting with the same thing. It's nice because it's not totally unfamiliar (having played in Drop D a fair bit and also being able to play the mandolin a bit) but it does break me out of my conventions. I remember a double bass player who said when he switched to fifths he realized how many of his note choices had been just out of convenience before.
Did you just use normal gauge strings for this? My high string feels like it could break any time.
@minusjason Thx! I buy single strings to get the guages I need. I don't remember what exactly at the moment, but I make sure to use lighter guage strings for the high strings for exactly the reason you described. They handle the tension much better. You'll have to experiment to get the right feel for your bass and style. Rock on.
I tune my bass similarly except that i leave the E string in standard tuning. So liek this E-A-E-B. It allows me to play most of my normal lines on the E and A strings yet still get the melodic tone of 5ths on the A, E, and B strings. So a hybrid tuning of 4ths and 5ths. :P
Nice. I like that idea. I don't care for drop tunings because of the redundancy of open note strings(D-A-D-G) but the 4ths/5ths combo is interesting enough to try. Maybe even E-A-D-A. That way you get 3 strings of 4ths and 2 of 5ths. Thanks!

0:50 sounds a little like a part in Cygnus X-1 By rush, apart from the last chord is diffrent.

If you get a 9-string guitar, tune it like this: CGDAEADGC.
