He somehow brings a feeling of total personal involvement to the piece, as if he was dancing in his room, but applies it to this insanely gorgeous choreography.
He just looks like he's living it. And that's what dance should be. This is truly beautiful!
Song is DeVotchKa-How It Ends. Don't you guys know how to do a simple google search? Take a bit of the lyrics, type into google and you have your answer. Took me 30 seconds.
The entire thing that was missing was lines. His libes were ugly and overly held in the hips...it was just odd. I know in ballet you hold your hips all the time but it should not make your range of motion less like this guys is.
@cheerkylee88 I liked the fact that it didn't look like a dance for a competition. He's obviously very technically talented, and it would be redundant if he did a dance that was full of turns and jumps. This dance shows off his beautiful artistry, which is what in my mind separates people who dance from Dancers.
@msbandgroupie but the thing is ... it's not his artistry someone else choreographed it... and i agreed with funfest that the choreo lacked lines (or his execution just wasn't up to the par of the other girls I've seen)... however, his performance of the piece was flawless - he really connected with the song and, in turn, the audience. Overall it was a good piece, but I believe the placing of 1st place considered things not seen in this youtube video... yay dancelife!!!
@comedyqueens i had that impression too for the first half!! i thought it'd get um a little more gendered with power moves (that's the usual case), but I guess they decided to go with the delicate take on the song?
I loved the choreo and the dancer- but it didn't seem right for a competition. Maybe a showcase but i think for a competition the dancer has much greater potential.. More room for a song with feeling or passion. Ya know??
This dancer won male breakout artist for NUVO last summer, so there must be more than one judge that think he has talen and I for one think he is awesome !
I love the fact that this was in a competion but it didnt have the competition feel of a dance. I like that he didnt just start breaking in fuettes as it would completly have changed the style of the piece. You could really see his flawless technique. The interpretation of the song was beutiful.
this song has that beautiful climax, and while the beginning of this dance surely was expressive and it did showcase his long lines, I anticipated the pick up in temp that I knew would be coming. i was left disappointed, however, because i felt like the choreo didn't live up its prelude or to the passionate clarity of the music. lauren garrett had a strength and precision to her dancing that this young man does not, and i think she should have won.
I did a contemporary piece to this song last year but it was without the lyrics.

i think it needed a bit more 'umph' it seemed to build and then never reach the crescendo... a bit dissapointing but still an amazing dancer (:

Beautiful interpretation of the song!
Saw this at Hall of Fame in Chicago and agreed with the judges view that he should of won 100% :)
He is a very strong dancer and is very versatile with other dance style which I saw in Chicago.
The other competitors in the solo competition were also very talented but not versatile.
Lauren Garrett's solo was beautiful as well but it felt as though she was doing another one of her group numbers.
I am glad that this man's solo won and it looked beautiful!
