  • can someone explain me in english where was this made and who scolari was then ? and what's he's talking about?

  • Scolari, then 36, was at the time (1984) coaching a small club in Southern Brazil called Gremio Esportivo Brasil ( a.k.a. XAVANTE ) from his home state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil and in this interview he is talking about their chances at that year's the Brazilian championship. His team was about to play a do-or-die game against Atletico Paranaense the

    Part 01 of 09

  • following night and if they won they would increase their chances of advancing to the second phase of the tournament. In Brazil at the time the main national football league ( known as A-Series/ Serie A or First Division / Primeira Divisao ) was played by almost 40 clubs and they were subdivided into groups of 06 and three clubs out of every group would advance to the next phase and so on until four clubs were left to play the semi-finals and subsequently the finals.

    Part 2

  • The shirtless Scolari is saying that although his team and its players are seen as the heavy underdogs for their next game and for the rest of the tournament they're gonna leave their hearts on the pitch in an attempt to qualify to the next round and get to play some of Brazil's elite clubs such as Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, etc, should they succeed. Part 3

  • The 2nd part of the interview was recorded the day after a game (still in 1984's first phase of the tournament) in which G.E. Brasil's substitute keeper saved a penalty that proved crucial to their ambitions of qualifying to the next round of the tournament and Scolari is praising his keeper and telling the fans that since his first-choice keeper still cannot play due to a suspension and based on his sub's superb performance the night before he'll certainly be playing in the next game. Part 4

  • The third and shortest segment with that interview with Scolari shows him being asked about his team's bad performance in the previous game as well as how he was seeing the other results within their group which turned out to be very unfavorable to their interests. Scolari says that he's not concerned with the other results and admits that his team played poorly in the previous game but says they're still in contention for one of the tickets to the next phase of the tournament. Part 5

  • G.E. Brasil did not advance to the last rounds of that year's A-Series tournament which was something they did the following without Scolari at the helm anymore. G.E. Brasil eventually went on to to lose its spot in Brazil's First Division and currently plays in Brazil's C-Series (third division ) as well as in Rio Grande do Sul's State League. Part 6

  • Each state in Brazil has their own league and although G. E. Brazil have never been crowned champions they have a very enthusiastic group of followers in their hometown of Pelotas. Brazil's First Division is played nowadays by 20 teams in the European style ( all teams against one another in home and away games ) which is something that was introduced for the first time only in 2003. part 7

  • Scolari went on to become one of the top Brazilian coaches of all time having won two Libertadores Cups ( South-America's equivalent to the Champions League ), one in 1995 with Gremio (not to be confused with G.E. Brasil) and another one in 1999 with Palmeiras; three Brazilian Cups ( in 1991 with underdogs Criciuma, in 1994 with Gremio and in 1998 with Palmeiras ); part 8

  • one A-Series title ( in 1996 with Gremio ) and one FIFA World Cup Championship ( in SouthKorea-Japan 2002 ) besides some State League Championships with most of the sides he coached. Sorry If I took too long but I hope I've been of help. If you wanna know more about Scolari or about Brazilian football, please let me know. Part 9 -- The Finale
