SSRIs and Trazodone

What is the actual incidence of Serotonin Syndrome with SSRI medications and low dose Trazodone? How many patients have you seen with the syndrome and, furthermore, due specifically to this combination? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

But isn't there only 1 serotonin receptor trazadone is an agonist at? At least my cousin who is a pharmacist told me trazadone is an antagonist at the 5-HT1A, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C receptors.

Hi I sleep from like 11 pm to 2 am and need something to get me back to sleep for a few more hours. I've been taking xanax the last 10 days at 2 am, (a .25 mg.) Is Trazadone good for that? I worry about the side effects (nightmares, sexual problems,etc)

When it comes to Medications such as trazodone, prozac, paxil, anti-physcotics, etc....etc......its not really the MG. DOSAGE that matters, it all depends on how your OWN brain chemistry reacts too the medication and how your body metabolizes it. Like i said, i was on 150mg of trazodone......and thats somewhat a low mg. dosage compared too the 500/600 mg that trazodone goes up too.

Just wondering how many people take TRAZODONE for having mental illness?? I myself have been taking it for 6 years and has Helped me TREMENDOUSLY. I was on 150mg everynight for 3 years along with 60 mg. of paxil which i took in the morning. Now i take PROZAC.......60MG every morning and only 50 mg of Trazodone at night........Trazodone is an SARI Antidepressant thats used as a sleep aid for people who have, Major depression, bipolar disorder, Ocd, Panic disorder, physcosis/schizphrenia, etc....

@TitsandFish84 most people don't use trazodone for depression. the dose for depression is 300-600mg. the lower doses are used for sleep as higher doses don't cause sleepiness.

@TitsandFish84 it hasn't done shit for me. i think anti-depressents are a joke. only 50% success rate and i bet a lot of it has to do with placebo effect or the fact that overtime you can become emotionally stable naturally. your brain and it's neuron paths change dramatically as you age, so overtime one can over come certain illnesses just due to the simple fact that your mind has changed.

I take zoloft and 250 mls of trazodone! and you know what, I take it EVERY NIGHT and it works splendid

my Doctor just proscribed me Trazodone for Sleeping 10 mg PRN .is it a good idea and has any body done well taking it any body taking 10 MG and is 10 Mg have any side affects and how well did the sleeping help. Weight gain or wait loss or was there waking up issues. or grumpiness grogginess ,,,,,,, I take Prozac 10 MG in the day daily

ok serotin syndrom wouldnt be caused by mixing trazedone and paxil, cuz my dr. just prescribed me on trazedone, and im on paxil

Ive been on Zoloft 100 mg and Trazodone100 mg and Clonazapam 1mg for years with no problem but if i don't take my med's i become shaky and very depressed

1) paxil and prozac are most dangerous with trazodone because both are major inhibitors of the CYP2D6 enzyme, increasing blood levels of trazodone. Zoloft is a moderate inhibitor of CYP2D6.

2) Chocolate does not increase serotonin. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA) which is a trace amine with stimulatory effects on the CNS. Carbohydrates and warm milk however contain trytophan which is converted to serotonin in the body

@thrh66 I've been on Paxil since 2005. My psychiatrist gave me a prescription for trazodone last week. It gave me probably every side effect possible, especially increased anxiety and depression, and I couldn't sleep at all. It wore off after several hours, but it was still such a miserable experience that I'm never going to take it again.

i take effexor xr 150 mg and just took trazodone 100 mg one night and i woke up 12 hours later with a hangover that didn't go away until the evening. i had to take valium, tylenol, and coffee to get rid of the hangover feeling. i would rather go sleepless than take trazodone. it will be going in the trash.
