You made some good points, but it should not take a college education to learn to find the US on a map. That should be mastered by kindergarten. I went to a so-so school system and I could fill in blank maps of Europe, North America, South America, Oceania and Asia by fifth grade with states, nations, capitals, major mountain ranges and major rivers. This is not to brag, but I think this is basic and I am wondering where other Americans are going to school.
