I hate how everyone talks about race playing a major factor in crimes when in reality, it is the type of environment in which you were raised in. And, even though this is anecdotal, I have my own experiences. When I was young my family moved around a lot. The most violent school I ever attended was one where over half of the students were black. I have a lot of bad memories from that school.

I have experiences with white people where I have passed them and heard them calling me and a couple of friends future criminals. I hate how everyone talks about race playing a major factor in crimes when in reality, it is the type of environment in which you were raised in. The variables being home, school, neighborhood, social circle etc. After all, you are a product of your environment. Everyone who brings up race in terms of crimes are just blatantly racist. Period. There are white, asian, black, latino and many other gangs that commit violent acts. It's not only the blacks or asians or what not.

@MelissLuv3 Of course there are some people of all races that commit crime. But this ignores the statistics. Blacks commit DISPROPORTIONATELY more crime than whites or east Asians. Homicide rates are almost TEN times higher among blacks than whites. And the other categories of crime (rape, robbery, etc.) are similar.
People like you are trying to make important racial differences go away by ignoring the statistics and reiterating trite truisms. More intelligent people can see through it.

If you do the analysis, as I have, you will find black men, in the U.S., committed about 3 times more rape in 2008, than white men (on a per capita basis of course).

@MisterKorihor There shouldn't have to be evidence. USE COMMON SENSE. All statistics that account to a specific race in total are ALWAYS wrong. You don't take into account that maybe 1% of the crimes may have been done by another race, but then a black person ending up catching the blame. Or the fact that they have been sent to prison on false accounts. Many many factors tie into these statistics, and not taking them into account is just stupid. This has happened A LOT of times before.

There are lots of statistics that say you're wrong (both surveys and arrest stats). Just visit a few prisons in the U.S. You'll find a large number of blacks in prison populations.
And, even though this is anecdotal, I have my own experiences. When I was young my family moved around a lot. The most violent school I ever attended was one where over half of the students were black. I have a lot of bad memories from that school.

@MisterKorihor I live in a majority black area. It's called Lake Arbor, Maryland. Look it up on google maps. I also go to a majority black school... Laurel High school, look it's history up too. I have experiences with white people where I have passed them and heard them calling me and a couple of friends future criminals. I have also had incidents where i've tried to hold doors for white families and they back away as if they are afraid.

Here is just one experience I had at the black school: all the students were lined up in front of their classrooms for a fire drill. We then started to walk in an orderly fashion to the playground. As I was walking around one of the buildings this husky black boy (who was a complete stranger to me) suddenly socked me in the gut. It was completely unanticipated and it took my breath away.

@gtas321 That was just one experience. I had MANY bad experiences at the black school. It was by far the most violent school that I ever attended. And I attended many schools (my family moved around a lot). Not only was that school the most violent, but the students there were more unruly, more rambunctious, less obedient, and less conscientious than the students in any other school that I attended.

This survey asks about 135,000 persons twice a year if they were a victim of a crime; and if so, the type of crime and the characteristics of the perpetrators (among other things). Since both the inmate statistics as well as the NCVS stats are largely consistent with each other, it implies that blacks really are more likely to commit crimes than whites (or Asians).

@tahjmahall You're an idiot. First, your 70% figure (which probably comes from the UCR arrests data) includes Hispanics and thus is highly misleading. Second, your not considering the fact that blacks only comprise 12.2% of the population. According to the UCR for 2009, 28.3% of the arrests were for blacks. So lets do some math: 28.3/12.2 = 2.32. That is, blacks were arrested 2.32 times the rate of the GENERAL population. And the number would be even higher if you were to compare it with whites.
