Soundgarden and Alice are incredibly interesting bands and if you ask me, I'd take them over Nirvana and Pearl Jam. But you can't undermine Nirvana and Pearl Jam's body of work. All were great bands. With that said, most folks seem to forget probably the most important band to ever emerge from Washington state, The Melvins. It's a possibility many bands wouldn't have existed had they not heard their music.
Although I love all four bands-Soundgarden, Alice in chains, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, it seems like only Nirvana and PJ are remembered. I think that SG and AIC were clearly the most talented and interesting.
Soundgarden were WAY ahead of most bands at that time. They were using alternate tunings and odd time signatures and employed a greater range of musical dynamics than practically any other grunge or wannabe grunge band.
As much as I loved Soundgarden if they got back together it wouldn't sound like it used to. I mean, have you heard the Chris Cornell solo stuff? He's definitely in a different place. Nothing they did after Badmotorfinger had the rawness that made them great imo anyway.
Well. Although I'm not quit sure if Chris can reach the same voice rank he had when they were together. I mean, in his solo career shit he didn't use it at all. Maybe his is just tired and if he can't reach it there isn't gonna be any Soungarden man !!
i disagree in the most major of ways lol. Chris makes up 1/4 of the whole collective. you think Ben, and Kim are going to play into where Chris' 'different place' is??? lol. funny
It gives me the shits how soundgarden is always forgotten when people talk about grunge nowadays. All they ever mention is Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Like that was it. Guess we know better though :)
@jizzle313 1. Soundgarden > Nirvana and 2. He wasn't using it as a verb or adjective. He was using it as a noun. Go back to 4th grade and learn some standard English, you dumbass.
@artisthespoonman what the hell are you talking about...you need to stop hanging out with those people because me and all my friends remember EVERY grunge band and in our discussions each group has equal amount of discussion time.
@artisthespoonman soundgarden is the very base of grunge,,, pearl jam respects n luvs thm.... dunno bout nirvana tho,,thy seem 2 loath every othr grunge band...

i know and its funny because in my opinion alice in chains and soundgarden put more talent into 2 songs than mccreedy, vedder, and cobain had in their entire bodies....
LMFAO around 3:00 through 3:30 she gets the record labels and albums they did mixed up and you can tell thayil is pissed but he keeps his calm that was the highlight of the interview for me
we just need some new bands to grow some balls and do something new. soundgarden was doing some interesting things back then. too many bitch bands around right now
Couldnt had put it any different! As Pepper Keenan from Corrosion of Conformity and Down said it in one Metal Hammer interview: " I desperatly miss Soundgarden..!"
Soundgarden were always given these same questions, Chris never really gives a shit because he's said it all before and plus he probably didn't think he cpould solely represent the scene. Not that he's not worthy, but he's a modest person.
it is about the beginning of "grunge" and how it broke into the mainstream and all that good stuff. lots of great bands in there too. you learn a lot.
it's kinda depressing to see Chris nowadays. soundgarden was so unique and amazing, such a diverse body of work. all those old-school SST punk influences yet they were so epic, but not like ordinary headbanger's ball fodder. Kim Thayil needs to come out of exile!
