  • Who is the singer of this song?

  • This song gives me goosebumps everytime.. Especially when he sings "sangeethame pranamu" Brilliant rendering by SPB and amazing music direction by KV Mahadevan.. and What a Movie!.. Wish they would make movies like this nowadays.. I don't understand telugu but can follow it a bit.. The songs and the expressions of the actors and actresses convey so much that you don't even need to follow the dialogues..

  • Listening after a long time. Fabulous...

  • It was the first Thelugu movie I saw that came to Kerala and it made an impact for its classical songs but, strangely enough, sung by Balasubramanyam who had no strict classical upbringing like Jesudas or anyone like that. I still remember, it was somewhat in 1979....mm Navarathri time and I saw that film twice.

  • Please you tube... remove dislike button for classic & awesome songs like these...!!! Some idiots are using those...!!!

  • Thums up if u r watching this in 2011 and u r under 30.

  • Somayajulu garu just lived in this movie,he did not act. These are all eternally melliflous melodies!

  • nice song....

  • This movie was made and it can never be made again...Aye Bhagawan!!

  • The films of K. Vishwanath were heart-wrenching, encouraging a strong but short-lived love for culture, arts and religion in film and daily life. It is unfortunate that the 80s had to come to an end.

  • I'm Tamil, and I only understand a bit of Telugu from my music class, and I absolutely LOVE this movie and the songs :) Telugu is suuuccch a beautiful language. To me, it sounds like Tamil, but a much softer version, its so beautiful.

  • @Prchkmrn I am a Maharashtrian and have no clue about any South Indian language ... This movie is true 'CINEMA' a VISUAL medium, hence does not have any language requirement or shall I say dependance. What a movie!

  • @qiron yeah definitely! loved the movie, and the songs!

cool you're maharashtrian? what languages do you speak?

yeaah you're so right, I don't understand hindi, but I enjoy the movies and songs sometimes without subtitles!

  • @Prchkmrn Great! Happy to know you enjoy Hindi movies too ... I am a movie buff and watch ALL movies .. by that I mean, Regional Indian movies, European movies, Hollywood, Bollywood ... you name it. I speak and read 3 languages Hindi, Marathi and English ... Understand and somewhat speak Gujerati (Thodu Thodu Aavdeche) and Bengali (Aktu Aktu bolbo ... bujhte paadi, podte paadi na) Your turn :)

  • what a song!

  • @Uday2310 Thanks for the transliteration. Its perfect!!

  • What a song !! Classical music is the bestest always !!

  • @uday2310 : Congratulations. You have done it at last. You have written ' 'Mrutheeyaleni'. I think it should be' Mruthiyuleni'. You are doing wonderful job.

  • Amazing Proud to be a Telugu... Any one who learns classical music should have Telugu and Sanskrit knowledge!

  • @Uday2310 Thanks buddy!!

  • This is certainly not one of those movies which is all about sex and superficial love. This is a beautiful, incredibly spiritual story. The relationship between the two main characters is that of a teacher and his disciple. Manju Bhargavi's character worships Somayajulu, but not in a romantic sense. To her, he represents honour and goodness. In fact, the difference in gender is irrelevant. I don't understand a word of Telegu, and yet this is the most beautiful, most moving film I have ever seen.

  • I don't understand Telegu but I've watched it at least 10 times and each time I was just swept by the music and acting of J. V. Somayajulu and Manju Bhargavi. Even watched the Hindi version by Girish Karnad and Jaya Pradha.

  • Superb... No rite to comment on these songs

  • nice.....................

  • spb got a national award for this song. Really superb..............

  • Can someone tell the meaning of the lyrics.... ? Its a pity I can't understand Telugu...

  • there was 2 legends in indian film history 1 is SHOLAY ans the 2 nd is SHANKARABHARANAM....k VISHWANATH unfartunatly u born at andhra pradesh othe wise u ra abslute candidate for OSCOR .

  • @1968krishna Who are they (Oscar) to validate us?! Why do we need their recognition ... they have no clue about what we are all about in terms of Country, Values, Principles, Culture, Heritage, History ... You are insulting our culture and heritage! In fact we should be validating them and not the other way around. What makes the West better than us? Why do we seek their attention .... I fail to understand!

  • superb song............

  • excellent song

  • It is one of the graetest music compositions by the maestro kv mahadevan legend of south india film industry and one of the ever green alblum in indian film industry

  • @537surya: Ho Its Great, I thought this is by Ilayaraja. Its a Great Song. SPB won National Award for this.

  • I am hearing this song hearing after almost close 50 years and that too on foreign country United States and still it is the same emotional singing by SPB it still rule roost in film music even today. • @sr31gu94lur ,,,,that is impossible....sankarabharanamu was sung 40 years ago,,,,how u heard it before it was released?

  • This movie must be released again. It will run full house for weeks with out doubt, all over south India, if not the entire country. Every aspect of the movie is superb. Younger generation needs to watch it. They would appreciate equally well. The theme is such.... Ever green.

  • @anilnair14999 I absolutely agree.

  • Om Veturi Namaha.

  • I am Malayalee (From Kerala). This movie has been translated to Malayalam (Years ago - I was not born at that time). The dialogues only translated. This movie made a history in Kerala Theatres. I watched the move by buying a CD. Its an excellent movie. I watched it over 5 times. I this this will still be a hit if release once again..

  • Veturi gaariki naa shraddhanjali :(

  • ఆయన కలానికి రెండు

    వైపులా పడునుంది .

    ఒక కోకిల తన పాటలను

    మనకి దానం చేసి కాన

    రాని లోకాలకు

    వెళ్లి పోయింది .

  • VETURI..the legend of telugu history. He is alive in the hearts of telugu people forever with his songs.May his soul rest in peace.

  • excellence!

  • Salute SPB, Veturi, mahadevan and Viswanath.

  • The movie is such a classic, that any remake, will only ruin it. Hence, i don't think anybody had the guts to remake it, instead they dubbed it into several indian languages. Evergreen music, evergreen classic!!!

  • A remake was made in Hindi as " Sur Sangam" with Girish Karnad as Hero and K.Viswanath as Director . As rightly mentioned by Brigadhadha this Hindi version was not a Successful attempt .

  • @sivarampochiraju

The Hindi version had brilliant music by rajan and sanjan Mishra bandhu and they had sung malkauns for the initial song 'Brochevareveru' and the finale of the 'contest' Raga 'shankarabharanam' was a Raag 'yaman kalyan' rendition

  • @Psyche1954

sorry it was in Bhairavi and NOT Yaman kalyan as i wrote in error

  • The music in Hindi version also may be great but What I meant was the over all impact of the Hindi Version on the masses and also the acting by the main characters had not impressed the spectators that much as that of the original version .The original version was a HUGE COMMERCIAL SUCCESS . SANKARABHARANAM IS MOVIE FOR CENTURIES TO COME AND GONE .

  • Point taken! Iunfortunateluam not telugu nor do iunderstand telugu nor have i seen the original! But i was speaking only from the point of view of Music and the music directors by the way were Laxmikant Pyarelal for the hindi version which I have seen! The song of teaching music was raaga Bhopali which in carnatic paddhati is called 'Mohanam'! the main protagonists who sang were Lataji,( instead of Janaki in telugu) Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra Bandhu of Banarsi Gharana !

  • Does anyone know where I can get a English subtitle copy of the movie?

  • awesome song

  • piece of work........

  • the great man Sivanasa Ramanujan was a simple indian. ythe chess champion is Indian. India will be a great country

    good luck

  • wow man some indian girls look so beautiful with their saries. and some indian ment are so smart

    bye

    god luck

  • Thats little girl is so cute.

  • this song is hart touching and wonderful ,its give some good feelings witch i cont express in words.

  • What does he say?

  • lol.....nobody is fighting for the woman....this movie is about well respected classical singer....about his rise ,fall and ultimately death of this singer.....about social hypocrisy....about how good music ultimately triumps

  • well classical mind but same old new subject of sex it seems. the girl is dancing to good music and not bad music. where ever there is a woman dancing there is sex somewhere,

  • i think you should watch the movie before commenting....this is not average movie which repeats same theme again and again.this is totally different.sex is not topic here at all...unless of cause you mind can only see sex and nothing else

  • @AGNIPATH06 How is this remotely relevant to sex?

  • @AGNIPATH06 you are correct. the movie is mainly about the mentor-disciple relationship; music and love of art brings them together. there is a line in this song -- "sangeetha me pranamo" meaning music is life itself. isn't that amazing dedication?

  • @AGNIPATH06 Well said .... This is a heart wrenching story of Guru Bhakti, Gyaan, Repentance and Total Submission ... When I saw this movie ... (multiple times) I thought now I am free to die ... Have seen an entire spectrum of human emotion. Where are such thinkers and movie makers now ...

  • the classical song considered divine, but towards the end an old audiance disrespectful of the song and singer pulling the chair and started talking to other member of audience loudly.this will offend the singer(main character of the movie),who will get up and walk away from stage(not shown in the song)

  • ok my friend I am very sorry, I am an admirer of Indian culture, I as born in Sri Lanka, I watched the movie Barathi, it was agreat movie about Maha Kavi Barathi, he was also a great man, and he died in a sad way too. what is this movie called? India should make movies about all the great people in India, the bollywood stupid shit piss me off.

  • ACTUALLY THERE WAS A MOVIE ABOUT SUBRAMANYAM BHARTHI already made few years ago....title is "BHARTHIYAAR" i think.....not only bollywood, tollywood and kollywood equal in churning out garbage

  • well the movie is not there in youtube, but I already watched it

  • This actually happens in real life! I was in a concert by pandit Jasraj where he had to tell people off for sitting with their feet pointing towards the stage! The great man said please sit cross legged or with your feet pointing away from the stage which is also a seat for Mata Durga whose portrait and lamp were placed as a part of Durga pooja celebrations and he would always salute the stage B4 starting the concert!
