i used to work with this guy, he did nothing wrong it was the groundie on the rope that stopped the branch completely instead letting it fall and slowing its decent. That is why he got thrown around like a rag doll. He is an aussie for your information

But (1) he also tied the piece way too far above the pulley. That should be a 12-18" instead of 4+ feet. (2) He was cutting a huge top off, and (3) he didn't have a second tie-in point like you're supposed to. Here's a perfect reason. He's lucky he didn't slide all the way down the tree.
I wish the camera dude would have filmed the whole event. I'm stuck wondering what could happened. The chainsaw could have fell and hit something, The dude could have fell off. The whole tree itself collapsed. Bummer you didn't film the whole thing.
This happened because the lowering rope tied to the tree top was not allowed to "run" through a friction device. Rather the ground man had the lowering rope tied off too tightly so the weight of the falling tree top "shock loaded" suddenly on to the rope. This transfers all of the energy of the falling tree top back into the rope and ultimately into the top of the "spar" (tree trunk) where the climber was. Its the tree workers convertable, take the top down and go for a ride!

He made the mistake of cutting the notch on other side of tree,too close to where he was tied off,you can see the top of tree he cut off had the rope wrapped around it
