  • I love the Screaming on this engine!!!!! Thats Old School for ya!!!!!!! Always made good diesel engines with a Scream.

  • Man these 2 strokes sound so natural on these buses!

  • this is music to my ears!

  • this bus is currently in Richmond

  • actually they spawn usually at downtown.

  • i dont want thse to get retaired! thses buses are still good to use!

  • these buses are still running it is currently in Richmond

  • The Cummins ISL wasn't even thought of yet at that time so they had to use Detroit's

  • What routes can I find it on?

  • is this bus powered by cummins ISL 330 HP?

  • Nope.....notice this bus was manufactured in 1991, and cummins ISL did not exist back then. This bus is powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine / Allison B400R5 5-speed

  • Wouldn't that be the Allison HTB-748 and not the Allison B400R5 ?

  • @newflyer3000 It could easily be repowered by an ISL. And the tranny is the HT-748, not a B400R5

  • @newflyer3000 - old comment, but no, this bus does not have the Allison B400R, it has the older HTB-748 Allison transmission.

  • @ShinHolyAyato If you listen to a detroit diesel and a cummins you can hear a difference.

  • they copied wmata!!!

  • @Dalek0122 Whats wrong with the sound of a 6v92?

  • What's wrong with teh 6V92TA? :P

  • Wait, what did I say again that made my comment had a -7?

  • well you said you hated this sound.

  • oh yeah! well, it does sound rather ugly :\

  • I agree.

  • I agree, those buses should have been repowered to Detroit Diesel series 50 EGR and Allison B-400R WTEC a long time ago.

  • The interior isn't to far from a NYC D60HF, I like...

  • Btw, they also sounded like the 1992's 30ft(9201-9223) and 40ft(9224 & 9225) Gillig Phantoms that my suburbs used to have...

  • you know that the new flyers measure about 18 m and the smaller ones measure 12 m

  • This bus makes alot of RPM man that aint normal in The Netherlands

  • Its a 2-stroke engine thats why

  • Brings back memories when the buses here in Pittsburgh had these engines. They pulled most of 'em in favor of Hybrids now.

  • Sounds like an Neoplan!!!

  • Yup This Is 99 B-line to ubc and its ovious @ Granville Street

  • WHOOO damn! I love that sound of the 6V92TA engine with a HT-748 transmission! Besides, without the Detroit Diesel engines, there wouldn't be any city buses.

  • lol an 6V92 and B500R would be wicked

  • Lock an Allison B500R to that 6V92 and it'll be even better!

  • Infact I just was doing some research and apparently the D60s in Strathcona may have 6V92TA and B500R!!! (Strathcona is right outside Edmonton apparently)

  • what the hell!?!?! Dude is you lie'in!?!?! Man why does Canada have the buses with the coolest powertrain latch ups and the US only gets Cummins ISCs,ISMs with B400s!

  • Yeah but there is a problem about that bus with 6V92TA and B500R, it's retired. So that is not out of the question... =(

  • THOSE BASTERDS!!! nnoooooo!!!

  • wit technology the way it is, we could make the 2 strokes jus as air friendly as the 4 strokes. jus nobody wants to do it.

  • @6V92TA Thats very true. I like cummins engines to but detroits are cooler.

  • so what are you trying to say?

  • i swear CAT had our old 500 series with this engine and tranny set (or sumthin near it) now they gots DD50s and i hav no idea what tranny they gots...

  • Either an Allison HTB-748 (as San Diego Transit has with their repowered D60's) or B500R.

  • Translink's D60s are powered by 6V92TA engine and Allison HTB-748 transmission

  • That would Be the 6v92 DDEC 4 and Allison 748 right?

  • Probably Allison B400R.

  • Nice

  • Nice video, I prefer the sound of the 6V92TA with the ZF HP-500. I guess it's because I grew up riding MT's D60HFs which had that combo.

  • This originally was a Poco bus and should have been kept in Poco cause now they have really crappy artics

  • nutin like a 6v92 and an Allison HT transmission with a new flyer.omg

  • Nice video. Is there possible to ride a faster route on higher speed next time?

  • Great video, I like the sound very unique. The seating configuration look decent. Over here (SF Muni) the New Flyer D60s also have the same engine and transmission. It sounds exactly alike. Are the doors step down to open?

  • Yes they are.

  • yup, that's correct

  • @lpcmidst128 I agree with you. Thats why they are my favorite engine because the sound very exotic and unique instead of a series 60 for example. I also have asperger syndrome so I tend to obsess about certain things. Although I kinda like cummins engines too. They have a pretty cool sound.

  • Great video looking forward to seeing more videos of these buses. How many routes are these buses used on and which ones. In manhatten they are on m23 m14 m102 m102 m103 m101 m76 m96 and a bunch of routes in the bronx where they first apeared.

  • These are very nice buses. New york city transit has 511 of these buses. They are very nice buses. New flyer should of kept making d60hf buses. New york city transit and minneapolis transit put in for a order of these buses combined of 70 buses. New flyer refused the order. Translink and nycta should have their new flyer buses rebuilt and kept in service 7 more years. Ones bought 2000 to 2003 do the rebuild in 2009 to 2012.
