  • This was my nans very first automatic loved this machine, my aunt used to work in the Phillips factory I remember her kitchen being full of Phillips appliances lol

  • Is there no distruibute before the spin??

  • @deeveyboy ... hi there. Nope - this machine doesnt know what distribute is. It either spin drains - as in the video - or does one long tumble at wash speed, which lasts for about 1minute or so. They certainly had unique programming, for a machine of the 1980s.

  • @matchbox3236h So how does it drain for the first rinse?

  • @deeveyboy .... it pumps out normally but then rather than plastering clothes to the edge of the drum, as in a normal distribute, it does a long duration clockwise tumble that lasts for about 1minute to 1minute 30secs. My memory might be inaccurate, but I think it does four or five rinses all at a high level. The penultimate rinse sees it spin drain upto about 600rpm, with the final upto 1000rpm as seen in this video. Unusual to say the least!

  • @matchbox3236h Could you do me a favour, upload a full cycle, such as a maximum 5.40c, would be honoured, thankyou . :)

  • @deeveyboy i love that washer!!!

  • Ive noticed on my washer at my parents house, the glass fogs up, i was told and im not saying it true but that it means the bearings are on the way out or gone, our old hot-point had no bearings for months before we realized it, and the spider had cracked, never heard a peep out of it ! love the video, I remember my granny had one from my fathers birth in 61( the baby of 8 i might add) right up to she passed in 03 ! its still going strong for his brother (my uncle) to this day !!

  • @nakedpace - glad you like the vid! Never heard the bad bearings = misty window theory, but it could be true. All these vids were of the machine first cycle in my ownership and a manual check of the bearings showed them to be tight, but the spin told a different story. The bearings will definitely be replaced and a new set, on order right now, will be fitted in the future.

Very interested in your families old machine! Be great to know what model it actually is. Dont ever let it be scrapped

  • Absolutely fantastic.

PS when are we going to see the 1828/02 in action?

  • @hotpoint95622 ... hiya. re the 1828/02 - not for a while I am afraid. Has been discovered that it has had a bolt through the outer tub repair previously, but that this is now weeping badly. As such, it will be a strip down and reseal job. Nothing is ever simple, is it :-)

  • @matchbox3236h hope it works out for you !!

  • My Mums Dad ones had a Philips Washing Machine.

  • I've got a similar machine just for my birthday the last July! It's an Ignis branded TL (very famous here and just like several other models of my collection!). PMSystem was the name of that patent here, consisting in a brushed motor without any electronic control that balanced just with the previous spin-drain, then stepped on to selected speed spin. Two water level but any half-load button, to prevent unbalanced spin and so low speed for halfload is recommended!! Enjoy it!

  • @diomedecorso .... great videos and wonderful machines you have in your collection. really like the indesit 092! a wonderful restoration. thanks for commenting.

  • a very nice washer! ilove the spindrain.but is this not a bit bad for the motor? it sounds that the drum bearings are in a bad condition

  • @MrJetta985 ...yes- the bearings will require replacing, as they are definitely on their way out. This was the first we knew of worn bearings, as this video was of its first run after buying.

Re wear on the motor... this was the programming of most Philips models of this style and era - all programmed to spin drain like this.

They use a special motor called a PERMAG motor - short for PERmanent MAGnet. Its very small - you could probably cradle it in one hand - but is strong for its size.

  • We used to have a very similar Philips machine to this in the 90s. It was very reliable after many years of heavy use, only needing replacement brushes. It too used the Permag motor, which was very similar to a typical treadmill motor. It didn't spin-drain unfortunately, and had only 1 distri-drain&interim spin before the final rinse. Also, after replacing the brushes, it struggled to reach its top spin speed again. Nice to see one on YouTube finally!
