You see what is really required 16- 18 hours a day 7 days a week 365 a year. If there were something wrong with the salvation army they wouldn’t be in every country in the world and be one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the world as well. Yeah, I'm sure the Salvation Army has done good things. Despite killing 6 million Jews, I'm sure Hitler did some good things too. Just because someone does good things, doesn't mean you should subjectively ignore the bad things they've done.
There's much better charity organizations out there that JUST do charity to help everyone.

Like most non-profits, Salvation Army relies heavily on volunteers and community service workers... and sometimes those people do not reflect Salvation Army true purpose. It really doesn't make sense about the church thing though... Salvation Army partners with my local college as well with community service projects as well as the boy scouts and NACCP.
Do people realise that the collection taken at Christmas by the Salvation Army goes to the band?
Also - never buy a War cry - 10% goes to their divisional headquarters for admin, 30% to pay for the printing of the paper and 60% to pay for the running costs (heating and lighting and ministers salary) of their local Corps (church building).
Salvationist's themselves finacially give very very little and most members do no social work as folk think, but spend their time in music.
I am sorry for the problems you faced. I can tell you that at the salvation army near us they have collages do things for them all the time and public schools. I am shocked they did that to you, I can be honest like any place it all depends on the person the army changes there people around a lot. Please do not judge it by one bad time. I know with furniture around here they have a truck waiting for the donations and once it leaves they can not accept any more do to the lake of room

Thanks for your story. I used to donate to the Salvation Army in favor of handing out money to homeless, even though I have more than once passed by "religious" organizations afraid that they were going to take a cut for a church of some sort.
salvation army has plenty of money, all that money sent to Haiti, i forget the exact number but the news reported that salvation only sent half of the total donated to Haiti. thats millions that they kept.

The Salvation Army has changed my life, if ever so slightly.
They have taken me from where I was unemployed and at the mercy of others and given me a job.
I now beg publicly.
I used to rely on the charity of others.
I now watch donations meant to help me, go to the Salvation Army while I receive as little as the law allows them to pay.
The Salvation Army took me from a bad situation, made it public and takes a cut for doing it.
