    -Thanks :P

  • she ripped this recipe off from the back of a ghram cracker box. I would know, she's my sister

  • Yumm, I've always wondered how people make it checkered!

  • when u use the chocalate did u use the egg yolk or whole egg!!!

  • Yay now i know how to make the cookies that were in Lucky Star (anime) ^_^b

  • I can tell your quite the perfectionist...hehe me toooo

  • These cookies are so awesome!! :D

  • Those look very pretty! Keep up the great job!

  • lol "wet" ingredients ;)

  • That Looks Good I Want One!

  • When I was a younger my friend and I saw checkerboard biscuits in a cook book and understandably were so unbelievably excited about their geometric loveliness we had to make them. All I can say is that they became infamously known as the great chocolate checkerboard disaster and hence from that day forward anything as comparably dull to these biscuits, earns its title as one. Maximum effort and minimum taste… you have been warned.

  • I looked your recipe in youtube and today I made it, but I had many issues, I followed your step by step, but doesn't look as your cookies. My first question is: How do you get the same look in the mix, i try to say, how you hide the flour? and also how does the mix can look so brighter. I used the roller pin with flour, but i saw the mix broken, how do you can get the mix perfect? how the mix doesn't broken in this step?, also i have to wait some time? or put into the fridge?

  • @maye31bas she did say to put in the fridge until it sets so try that

  • wow, you made it look easy and fun to do, I'm trying it this weekend hopefully!

  • i'm curious, is the dutch processed cocoa unsweetened or sweetened?

  • yummy ! i tried making it with my friends once for a project ! :D they were great ! ima try make them again ; this time ; by myself ! :DD hope i dont fail though D:

  • how long do you refrigerate the dough? (about)

  • This was a real good recipe. I made it today and it was real good. I had a hard time with the chocolate dough, but it came out pretty good.

  • lovely cookies....and you did it so neatly...... thanks for the video..it really helped

  • geez those look so cute xD! i want to try making them now...

  • i bet they tasted good i wish i could cook as well as her

  • 6:03 How is this better?

Wheat flour is not safe. If you used Almond flour right on. Granulated sugar? There are many healthier substitutes.

  • I loved these cookies! It turned out well the first time. However, the second and third didnt turn out well cuz I didnt add enough flour and it was more butter which melted. The reason why I didnt add the required amount of flour cuz the dough didnt stick/mould well(manily the vanilla). Do you have any tips?

  • how much of each?

  • OMG! Ive always wondered how you make checkered cookies! so thats how you make them. im going to try this out even though it lots so time consuming. thanks for this helpful video(:

  • beautiful

  • Why do u have take 1 wk to make?

    Hahaha. I LOVE THIS! :D

  • It took a week to make >:( BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!

  • @KagamiNokama what is the recipe????? please!

  • Ive tried making these cookies yesterday, they tasted good, though you will not get the look as the ones in the video. one thing that gives it away is that for a crispy cookie you need baking soda for it to rise, which the vanilla does not have. though either way its a good cookie that has been around for some time

  • And the mystery of how the check-board is formed is now solved. I was always very curious and this video was very helpful. The procedure looks laborious, but I'll give this recipe a try. Thanks! :)

  • Omg thank you o much!? I've looked eerywhere for this reciepe! THANK YOU!?

  • awesome i love it!

  • that is so cool!

  • they look so cool and soooooooo yummy!!

  • I made those and they were sooooooooo good. Thank you for posting the video.

  • The recipe is SO creative of how you even got it to be a checker board. At first I didn't get what you were doing until the part where you started stacking the final thing. Thank you so much for the recipe!

  • hey, i love ur recipe ideas and ur so smart! =D good luck! :)

  • hallo

    i have a question

can u plz tell me the gramms of the flour and choco powder!!!!!!!!!!

    plz

  • The DyannBakes website won't work. :(

  • Cool! I think I'll try making those.

  • awesome! looks yummy!

  • THAT IS COOL

Thank You so much for sharing this. I have some jello swirl cookies chilling right now and when I get through baking those, I am going to start on this recipe. Thanks Again.

  • can I just use the vanilla dough and just cut out shapes out of them?

  • Then they become vanilla cookies, not checkerboard. But yeah, why not? xD

  • Hi there!Love your videos!I'm a pastry chef from Germany and I worked in a bakery in Rye/NewYork from'02til'07.

I have a suggestion:if you make the vanilla dough first you don't have to clean the bowl and can use it right away for the chocolate dough also.We used to do it that way-just a little detail.

Other than that I am glad I found your videos-all the great amerian receipes like cheesecake, fudge and...

We don't do things like that over here in germany...unfortunately.Now I can! Thanks!

  • haha I know I can never make something like that

  • wow! this is amazing! i wish i could cook well like her!

  • You can...just practice! :)

  • Hope they come out good!

  • @DyannBakes what is the recipe????????????

  • last time i made this i didint have enough eggs so i just made one themn the chocolate dough my sister didnt cook it properly and she ate it like cookie dough

  • yuk!! :)

  • haha yumm

  • yayyyy!

  • if i use a spoon to mix the ingredients will it change the consistansy of the dough ?? bc i dont have a stand mixer

  • You could, but have patience...it is going to take some time

  • the ingredients are not given how are we to know the amounts?

  • you have to go to her website theres a link i think on the description

  • There is a pdf of the recipe and the ingredients are there

  • -_-

oh please i could do that who needs her to show me

    >>;

  • I am happy my Aunt introduced me into your cooking. Now every time I want to show off with my cooking skills at the book club meetings I will just whip up one of your recipes. Thank You so much!

  • Great demo....thank you for inspiring me to make more than just the usual Choc. chip cookie! I make cookies for my choir and girlfriends daycare, but I think the choir would appreciate these more than the 3 year olds! LOL You're a very good baker!

  • Such a beautiful cookie, lots of prep but well worth it and you make it look so easy this cookie is not for the beginner. :)

  • You're right, it's not the easiest, but it is so pretty and tastes so good! Glad you tried them!

  • i made the cookies and they didnt seem to have much taste.. o_o.. is there some reason for that? or maybe i did something wrong? o_____o;;

  • they are not an overly sweet, but they are a very flavorful buttery cookie. Check the measurements of your ingredients

  • what temperature do we bake the cookies at?

  • 350 degrees

  • ooh! these cookies sound yummy~ ;] how long do you chill the dough for?

  • until it is no longer sticky. Probably ~30-60 mins

  • haha I know I can never make something like that but it was fun watching you make cookies! lol :P

  • sure you can make it!! Just try!

  • should the cocao powder be sweetened or should i get the unsweetened one?

  • Use unsweetened.

  • i see u are right handed. can u do a video to teach left handed people to do this as well?

  • thnx!

  • I just have made chocolate chip cookies. but these look easy. I am thinking about making these from my twin brothers' graduation now.

  • amazing video! I was looking for a way to make these for a party :)

  • Cool! So glad it was helpful!

  • dyann!

    i love watching your videos!

    you are an amazing cook

    and you're so professional!

i was wondering if you were going

    to do anymore podcasts

because i saw that you last one was in october!

i really am looking forward to seeing

    more podcasts and recipes!

  • Thanks for the compliments! We are shooting tomorrow and should have it posted mid-week.

  • ok thx!

    cant w8 to see it!

  • Hey Dyann, I tried this but it didn't turn out that well.. i had problem with the white dough. It was so soft that it broke into 3pieces when i was trying to transfer it onto the chocolate dough. Secondly, my dough melts really fast and it was hardto pick them up to put on the baking tray. Do you have any suggestions of how i can deal with that?

  • Make sure your measurements are correct. There may have been too much butter or not enough flour. It is very important that you chill the dough after each steps. If you don't it will be hard to pick up like you described.

  • So cute! I'll definitely be making these.

Your hair looks lovely by the way...

  • I agree, I love her hair. Haha!

  • Aren't you two wonderful! ;)

  • Loved it!

  • Thanks! What's the origin of your screen name?

  • well done!

  • Glad you think so! Thanks for posting.

  • nice!~you are talented!

  • Thanks! :)

  • wow, cool plate! loved the cookies!

  • Isnt' it fun!?! It has a "cover" so you transport stuff

  • Thanx lots.

  • Ohokay. Thanks a lot. :)

  • can i have one [just kidding =]]

  • may i have the measurements for all the ingredients?

  • you can see all the ingredients @ dyannbakes dot com. On the home page, there is a list of links below the search box on the right hand side. Click on "cookies" and they recipe ingredients will be at the bottom of the page :)

  • it gets so crumbly. how do you fix that?

  • Add a tiny bit of water. you can always add more, but you can't take it out!

  • OMG i <333 u vid's=]

  • is it feasible to double up on the vanilla batter, coloring one half red to look like a picnic blanket, instead of using chocolate? would i need to add more of a dry ingredient to counteract the liquid food coloring or would a powder food coloring work better? also, would it be possible to use strawberry extract in the red batter instead of vanilla, or would it change the consistency too much? thanks, and i love the show!

  • Hi CandyCaneChild,

So glad to hear the cookies were a hit! I too find them to be very yummy! To answer your question about the addition of baking soda to the chocolate dough....

In a recipe there are things added for moisture, structure, and tenderness. Cocoa adds structure and toughness, so in order to keep that from overpowering the dough, baking soda is added for some added "lightness".

    Dy

  • Ahh alright. Thanks for clearing that up ;)

  • I made these the other day and they turned out great! My whole family was impressed with the checkered patterns. They tasted wonderful as well! I just have one question.. why is it necessary to add baking soda to the chocolate dough? Im just wondering since it made the chocolate part rise more than the vanilla during baking. Thanks so much!

  • Hey CandyCaneChild,

They taste great! These cookies are a traditional shortbread, not too sweet, a bit on the dry side, nice and buttery!

Let me know how yours come out, k?

Welcome to the world of baking!

  • Those are just TOO COOL! Ive just started baking and these look too irresistable to not try out. How does it taste though?

  • Thanks! That means alot coming from a cooking freak! :)

  • nice

  • Chilling the dough for about a half hour should do the trick!

  • hei!!!how long do you really chill, not freeze, your dough before you do something with it?

  • Practice my dear! That's the only way to get there! Thanks for the comment :)

  • hey...amazing video..very sweet of you to share...but i hav an imp question....hw come u rolled both the doughs exactly the same size???looked soo neat...any tips???

  • a very enjoyable watch!

how come the dough had to be wrapped into plastic wrapping? ...

  • Well..if the dough is exposed to the air, a sort of "crust" forms on it and makes it difficult to work with, and overall just protects it. Also, it keeps it from absorbing smelly stuff from the fridge! :)

Thanks for posting! Leave a message on the website www.dyannbakes.com!

  • very cool show ;-) Hope you make it big someday!
