There is a great deal of discretion in the deportation process, although there are interests trying to reduce that humanistic, deliberative complexity to myopic dictates. Many people who come to the United States are fleeing repression, torture, and other forms of violence. I am careful, as I think you should be, about equating desperation and criminality/illegality.

I would say that it began with certain wealthy classes and intellectual and cultural figures, and that it has generalized to a more broad slice of the educated and managerial classes, managing things for the armed services through the corp of engineers in places like Dubai or teaching English in Korea, Saudi Arabia, etc. There are power disparities, but these are still forms of emigration, and what's more they're legal.

What bugs me the most are the comments here - what have we become when locking up people for profit is acceptable - for someone to become a millionaire we are creating laws that persecute a whole community instead of addressing the issue.
All illegals will be DEPORTED. Make more anti-illegals laws and enforce them as well as the existing immigration laws. Then they will SELF-DEPORT as the best solution for all of us. We will not need to detain them at all. They will SELF-DEPORT if they cannot drive, send kids to our school, rent apartment, use our hospitals. Make their life miserable, and they will SELF-DEPORT. Secure the border with fence and Army patrols. Go after visitors that over stayed visas and in 5 years no more illegals.
@AiresQX4 Small potatoes; how about advocating a genuine human rights issue of some kind, where this sort of outrage might be appropriate? You'd probably feel better at the end of the day.

Secondly, perhaps tommy & his asshat spic guest should take a logic course. The 2 choices aren't:
1) let illegals in so rich people can make even more money w/private jails that the poor & middle class pay for, &
2) let illegals in so that the poor & middle class pay for their free education, hospital bills, food stamps, etc.
the obvious choice is: send the motherfuckers back. Charge Mexico for their transport.
