I used to watch this as a kid all the time and was really happy to find it on television when we moved to the US. I didn't understand a word but I had memorized the episodes by heart in Russian so it was still quite memorable and fun to watch in English as well :]

One question raises to my mind: Ducktales is from the 80s, so the Soviet Union existed then. Was this actually translated and shown "behind the iron curtain" or did it only reached Russian audiences after 1991?

The stuff which was shown behind the curtain in the mid-80s to starting 90s was synchronized much crappier than this. They just turned down the volume down and underlaid it with loud russian synchronization - which btw was made often by just 1 person.
