Sounds amazing. The soloists really had a lot of style that made it sound perfect. The one problem that I would point out is how at least one tenor doesn't hit that high note very well. He sounded more like he was shouting than singing.
the only thing i would really have to comment on is vowels....we did this song and my teacher was hardcore on tall vowels...and not morphing vowels....especially on rrrreeeeaaaaiiiiiinnnn lol
Great job guys! THe duet was great, but the soprano was a little overbearing. Fantastic on crescendo, decrescendo. Chay- ild? If you had oened up a bit more, i would have sounded more natural. Splendid job for an ensemble this small. Keep up the good work....
@systemofadownhunny It's supposed to mimic the shouts and cries of Africans who don't have access to food and water, so it definitely isn't written to be sung as a proper and polite tall "ah." Awesome username, though! :)
My middle school choir is singing this song at a competition on saturday. I'm quite worried. We can't get hardly anyone to sing out and the descant got their parts this week. I'm hoping and praying this and our other song, Plachido e el mar, will turn out well. Very good job. I loved it. I wish the people in my choir would be a bit more serious with it so we could attempt to sound close to that. Bravo. =]
One bass is really sticking out. I know it's a chamber chorus, but too much. Otherwise, fantastic as everyone has said. You guys do well switching from dominant to submissive harmonies. Your conductor taught you well. The one tenor needs a slight review on belting the semi-high E. You need to use the mentality of the full-volume to approach the note, but you need to cut back just a hair and open the top of your sinuses to make the resonance deepen. Altos, brava. More Bass. Well Done Sopranos.
Singing this in college our professor tells us how to feel about the song. The first rains are a plea to have it rain. sounds like you are happy and rejoicing. Save it for the end. Great otherwise!
Beautiful job! The tuning was very good and the choir's sound as a whole lovely. Vowel shapes were consistent, and the blend of voices was superb. My only wish is that some of the dissonances at the ends of phrases be held longer. This song is full of turmoil and desperation, which is expressed largely in the dissonances. I would say, don't be afraid of letting them come out more!
There are some pitch issues throughout, the speed feels too fast - it's famine, not a party. But overall, quite nice. Especially for such a young group.
Wow, they are amazing...we are singing it my choir right now, but our choir has a hundred people in it, and out of that many people we cant produce two people to sing the duet like that...lol..
im doing this in choir for middle school

actually the "solo" you hear is a bulgarian style of singing. It symbolizes how the Bulgarians went to Africa to help out.

Descant "ah" too wide. Taller vowels = better sound.
systemofadownhunny 11 months ago
@systemofadownhunny - it is supposed to mimic the sound of an African chant. Wide and forward vowel = stylistically appropriate...

the soloists have beautiful tone quality...but a pure AH would be nice as well as a bit more blend. Wonderful performance overall!

@bipolarcow999 I'm pretty sure it's there. Subwoofer picks it up, haha. The octave jumps on Weave are there as well. I love being on that part.

great sound for such a small group. i recently heard our all county chorus perform this (with more than 200 singers) and this sounds great.

The dynamics were obvious and well rehearsed. However, the forte moments where shouted. It was too apparent. Well prepared, though.
