  • speed hax on drums

  • I could listen to this all day...so relaxing.

  • Whos the third guy on stage?

    Looks kinda like Ustad Awalmir

  • That's difficult! ;-(

  • Our ancestors had the genius to create all this music and here we are thinking our country and its legacy is a waste.

  • @Licensetokill29 Are you kidding? Most Indians are extremely proud of their ancestry and their country's legacy.

  • In our musical tradition, we respect the music, the musicians, the instruments and our Gurus and finally the audience. Without proper reverence, one cannot appreciate or learn this music.

  • Is it just me, or does the audience not seem to follow what's going on?

  • WOOW!!!! look at this video of Alla Rakha playing when he was a child, simply amazing /watch?v=McoeIFz3wto

  • les Tabla masters ont-ils des rhumatismes?

  • @jacquesbr69 Non, pourquoi ne questionnez-vous?

  • Goddamn these drums are fucking sick

  • @drkdrgns these are bongos dumbass

  • @Gordonel111 Bongos are Cuban, tablas are Indian just as it's said in the video, good try though, bro.

  • @JakCei haha....yeah i know (i play drums and bongos)...i saw that i have written a mistake after looking at the title

  • @Gordonel111 These are tablas. Make sure you're right before you try to call someone out, dipshit.

  • original shuffle breaks!!! jungle!!

  • Hello, we like the same!

  • Con dos palabras: im-presionante

  • With three words: won-der-full

  • a tabla player must learn to sing the rhythms before they actually pick up the tablas. so, you must have the essentials inside you before using them to express yourself with the chosen instrument. Alla Rakha is truly one of the world's great musicians.

  • I don't see how I can live with getting tongue twisters in simple sentences anymore.

  • CJECK OUT MY SOLO................FARRUKHABADI RELA

  • i love how people seeing/hearing tabla for the first time have no idea what's going on :D haha

  • tekkers lad

  • So cute.. they started clapping when Ustad finished the speaking out the notation..

  • did you notice his face expression on 6:7

  • awesome

  • This music is incredibly complex rhythmically and melodically, no wonder John Coltrane got so much inspiration from Ravi's work, Thank You

  • Td o que é simples é bom, neste caso mt bom !

  • Já vi que tb gostam. Obg

  • 1:45 for popeye xD

  • jokes I stumbled on this through a beatles playlist

  • Ravi has a daughter named Norah Jones who is an amazing singer-songwriter. You guys should check her out.

  • This put a smile on my face! Thanks! That guy's hands move too fast!

  • Poor old Ravi looks lost trying to keep up with him! XD Rest in peace Alla Rakha.

  • so crunchy and polyrhythmic bra

  • haa ravi has sence of humor that is awesoem!!

  • Ravi Shankar is to Hindustani music what Wynton Marsalis is to jazz.

  • This recording needs to be preserved. No percussionist, even musician, should live without listening to this.

  • @theatlantisrise incredible.

  • angels on the sideline..........................

  • indian classical music is Great)). "SAAZ MUSICALS" (indian professional musical instruments shop)

  • Alla Rakha was THE one.

  • Wonderful exponency of historical mastery!!!

  • divine! What a genius....

  • divine!

  • the two of them mesmerized the world.. and rightly so. You have to be tone deaf to ignore them!!

  • yoda on drums everyone....

  • I enjoyed the video overall. But my favorite part is after 6.58

  • Forms and cycles...natural law in music.

  • that's some good double tonguing if he were a trumpet player

  • It's amazing how he can replicate almost every sound into percussion.

  • I like the part where he hits the tabla

  • great

  • :)

  • mind blowing...

  • @ Diminishd5 -- no dear his mean 2 3 2 3 = 10 beats

  • Does he mean that the rhythm is in compound time? 2 beats, 2 beats, then 3 beats?

  • @Diminished5 2 beats then 3 beats again 2 beats then 3 beats which make up the 10 beats and cycled , but it is a bit hard to follow because he plays this 10 beat in a cycle only once or twice , and as Ravi Shankar said they improvise mostly

  • Wow...this is just unbelievably Awesome....and Ravi doesn't even break a sweat....AT ALL....

  • Regardless of how you feel about traditional Indian music, please be aware that you are watching two of the worlds most sophisticated musicians. In Ravi Shankar's autobiography he talks about practicing 14 hours a day through his teen and early 20 years. I'm sure the routine for Alla Rahka was equally grueling. Jazz may be the world's most harmonically complex music, but tradition Indian music is the most rhytmically and melodically complex.

  • @mlcoo17 I completely agree with you, man. I listen to jazz a lot, and also indian music quite a bit. and I can definitely say that I find indian music more rhythmic and melody based. it is brilliant, they don't even think about chord progressions o any of that stuff it is just rhythm and melody, purely one of the best musical style of the world. it's all about the feel man!

  • Man,he would be world's best at simon says

  • @ranbrent

Actually he was the world's best, until his son Zakir Hussain became even better than him...

  • WOW O_O AMAZING!

  • There was a verbal sound for a particular hitting of the tabla... and he could speak a "tabla" language that could translate into music. Ravi Shankar is a genius of sound. Just pure genius.

  • Absolutely flawless!!!!

  • oo, i'm out of tune i'm sorry.. - Quality.

  • i think we need a metal band that does tabla/sitar solos

  • @dbaig187 tool - right in two from 4:00. that's something like that

  • @dbaig187 there is one in India

  • @dbaig187 Like....Tool???

  • @dbaig187 Khm.... Tool is that band... check out Right In Two

  • @dbaig187 Aghora? Not sure though if they've used sitar and tabla in their songs, but their music is influenced/based on Indian music, so perhaps. Perhaps. The plot thickens.

  • @dbaig187

Check out "The Reptilian Brain" by Intronaut

  • @dbaig187 Tool Buddy. Tool. Listen to Right in Two. Dany Carey got turned on to these from a really famous tabla player.

  • @dbaig187 Tool..

  • @dbaig187 TOOL!!!! right in two- listen only the best band ever

  • @dbaig187 Listen to Daystar by Jeff Martin (lead singer of Tea Party) or anything else he's produced on that album. It's not exactly metal, more rock guitar, tabla and sitar. Performed with the Toronto Tabla orchestra. Great stuff

  • @dbaig187 You may have not heard about a band called "Tool", then

  • @dbaig187 Tool? Right in Two

  • @dbaig187 I know of a band called Tool that has tabla in their music, not solos but still cool tto hear it incorporated

  • @dbaig187 I have no idea how to play sitar or guitar (working on guitar), but challenge accepted.

  • @dbaig187 Out of curiosity, would electric sitar count?

  • @dbaig187 Aghora has tabla and sitar. The new "Cynic" album has sitar and tabla also.

  • @dbaig187 tabla used by the metal band Intronaut. check out their songs the "The Reptilian Brain" and "Valley of Smoke"

  • @dbaig187 This is wayyyyyyyyyyy too advanced for the VAST majority of metal bands

  • This recording does not do any justice to the actual sound of the tabla.

  • the most complex rhytms of the world.

  • If this doesn't blow you away, you're not breathing!

  • @ManiacSerialKilleR Oh God, I love your comment.

  • @ManiacSerialKilleR Well... Meshuggah actually actually is playing half of complex polyrhythms. And the tenth of any carnatic music

  • @bajerovaquero i know...im very well aware of indian classical music and i think it's very complex

  • @bajerovaquero true...agreed, indian music is way too intricate

  • 16 dislikes. 16 Morans haven listened to it.

  • i love allah rakha's face he's so adorable you just wanna grab those cheeks and go cutchy cutchy coo

  • i used to listen to this wen i was 17 for two years- i love it still

  • The table man is killin' it!

  • Mickey Hart of the Dead said of Rakha, "He is the highest form of rhythmic development on this planet." I think its no understatement to say that Rakha is the greatest percussionist to have ever lived.

  • hey when did bill cosby learn to play the sitar

  • lol

  • OMG i want to learn the TABLA & the SITAR soooo badly. and i love the sound of them so ill become good at it fast!

  • @XDvagabondXD Do-re-mi, but for drums!

  • Ravi Shankar and Allah Rakha together?! WOW, that's like Jimmy Page and Keith Moon together!

  • @Moiez101 pffff... they played together for a long decades and you cannot compare them to jimmy page or keith moon... R.I.P. Ustad Alla Rakha !

  • @horvathazagergo

well, i'm just saying that the equivalence of their fame and their skill. They are masters and favouriates at what they do.

  • @Moiez101 never compare any artist with other... never.. u sharing ur knowledge n joy.. an another thing.. but.. its a wrong statement..!

  • @ashooexes

Arguable. It's wrong to compare in terms of who's better, but it's not wrong to compare in terms of fame. :)

  • @Moiez101: If you liked R. Shankar and A. Rakha, you should get their "Live at Monterey Pop" CD. There is also a really great album with Alla Rakha and Buddy Rich called "Rich a la Rakha."

  • @jezmundberserker

    thanks!

  • @Moiez101 perhaps not the best comparison... Page and Moon are both very sloppy!!!

  • @polsitar

yeh, when they're drunk or under the influence of some next drugs! but their caliber of playing and their creativity and status in rock music and the instrument types that they play.

  • @Moiez101 Led Zeppelin actually came very close to having that lineup, along with Entwhistle, but they went with Bohnham and Jones. Both great rhythm sections to be sure.

  • @Moiez101 How about that's like Jimmy Page and John Bonham together!!!

  • @fpcrunner

haha yeh. well, that's a given. they'll always be together, as legends.

  • @Moiez101 they also played together at the 1972 Monterry Pop Film Festival.

  • @Moiez101 I feel like that's more like Jimmy Page and John Bonham together...

  • @Moiez101 or like jimmy page and john bonham

  • @wonderouswonderloo

there's a reason i didn't say that. They're both in a band together, but Mr.Shankar and Allah Rahkha aren't, so they are collaborating. :)

  • mind blown
