that was f*cking amazing!!!!!!!!!! never knew Pete could play lead guitar so well WOW Maybe Bad Finger should have gone down this road a little more or blended it in anyway................to bad really RIP Pete thanks for all the great tunes.....................................
DO have a LISTEN to as much of PETE HAM's vocals and guitar playing as you can....there is a lot of songs here at youtube that are treasures and show the versatility of this man we all got to know as the front man for BADFINGER....please stretch out with your mind and listen to PETE HAM....he did it all....NOT just the band and songs he is known for...Hollywood Joe
Is there one note of his playing here that isn't sheer nirvana! What an incredibly melodic, raw, in-the-pocket knock-out performance! And though it is standard blues, shows what a natural he was. He could've been Peter Green before Peter Green! Oh, I forgot, he sang great, wrote classic songs, was a superb human being...
I have no idea if this is an old blues song, or a Pete Original, but this fits right in with the British Blues boom c. 1968. This tune points to the versatility that Pete had; he really could play any stule of music. Sometimes I wish that Pete and Tommy had never formed Badfinger; who knows what they could've done with the right management. By the way, I have a bootleg CD of The Iveys live at the BBC; the sound quality is purely awful.
@cdadave83814 That's what's amazing. Dan has taken those horrible speeded-up bootleg tracks and made them very listenable here. We can only dream what might have been for Pete and Tom... Has any guitar magazine ever recognized Pete's talent or are they working on article #15,789 about Eric Clapton?
@GraceBarrett I haven't seen any of Guitar Player's older issues from the 70's, but I did see a more recent issue that had an article with the title "101 unsung heroes" or something like that. Unfortunately, no mention of Pete Ham though, to be honest, they did list a number of other very underrated guitarists like Jerry Reed, Cody Kilby and Roy Clark. Still, I wish they had brought up Ham. Badfinger did get mentioned in one issue of GP I saw once...under what the staff was listening to.
@GraceBarrett One more thing...that comment you made about Clapton--I couldn't agree more! He gets far too much credit (no offense to him meant though). Sometimes, it seems that he's literally just playing one famous blues lick after the other. To be quite honest, there are so many guitarists out there that are a whole lot better than Clapton--Pete Ham, Albert Lee, Brad Paisley, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Mountain's Leslie West to name just a few.
@cdadave83814 The description for this video says that this is a song that Pete Ham wrote. I certainly could imagine this song being covered by a number of older blues artists though!
Nice to hear something new from Pete though it's so sad to think of all the wonderful songs that he could have given the world if his life hadn't ended so tragically.
Some of Pete's best playing by far. His singing in great too, as usual. Just as good as any solo Clapton's ever done and it's live!! Nice input by Tommy at the end too.

Pete was like a prism. Seems like he took in everything that was going on...and what came out was always beautiful.

It's when you hear the demo tapes of these guys that it becomes apparent who the real talent of Badfinger was.
