I'm "sticking" with the old-school litter box. Pardon the pun. Much easier to clean than this robot is anyway. Thanks for posting. Scoop-and-flush works for me. This "set it and forget it" culture is kind of lame.
@MsAdrienneLynne How about it's called living in a small house with no where but 10 feet from your bed to put the cat litter box which smells up your bedroom in the middle of the night when you don't exactly feel like getting up to go clean the litter so it's not smelling while you're trying to sleep. ...ditto for when you're all snuggled up watching a movie or with a book
Did it not occur to you to put a light inside this thing? Camera require photons. Then, you point out a total of maybe a teaspoon of poop TOTAL, and that's a lot to you? "I was right" tells all. You are returning it to prove to yourself you are correct.
I had one for 3 weeks and it sucks my cat came out with a stinky skid mark going down the side oh her.. i looked in side an there was poop and litter caked all over the left side where the fin is... and you have to clean the inside walls out with a wet wipe once a week or else is stinks BAD. and because of the tight space my cat also peed on its self a few time.. not some thing you want to deal with...
The poster of this video did not give the Litter Robot a chance! First of all, the cat does not have waste all over him when he comes out. Look at the many other YouTube videos to prove it; cats don't have litter all over them. The complaints about the drawer -**please**. There is **no** auto box that has a warning system when the drawer is full! Why pick on Litter Robot? His last statement sums it up - he was skeptical to begin with & wanted to be right. Have fun scooping, dude.
This guys sounds like he resents ever letting his wife talk him into trying this thing. First, notice the amount of waste in the drawer for only being used once.
Second, if you had spent the extra $20 for the rear bubble, the cat would have more room (maybe enough room to swing a cat) and not be so claustrophobic.
Finally, how often do you clean your old cat box? So you have to empty the drawer every other day, less than a traditional catbox!
I have this product. I've had it for about a year now. Although many people rave about it, I'm not too fond of it. You HAVE to wipe it down two or three times a week (and clean the whole thing twice a year) on the inside because it will smell if you don't. You HAVE to clear out the bin at least once or twice a week; also, I have only one cat. The biggest problem is that I've had is the cycling. Litter leaks from the globe and into a sensor that keeps it from fully cycling.
Well, I really appreciate your video. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I am looking into electric cat boxes and this research really helped. Just buy looking at this design you can see how the poo would accumulate all over! I can also see how small it is in there! I would send it back too!
We just bought the Litter robot for our 2 year old Ragdoll. We really like it and our cat readjusted quickly. He does not rub on the sides, the waste container is plenty big, doesn't overflow, and best of all it keeps the odors away superbly! Our kitty had trouble covering his waste well so this is a huge odor bonus for us. Plus the clumped clay removes cat urine just like solid waste. This is much better than the pine pellets which left us a sawdust swamp in his bin. Works great for us!
@WashfromCali Not with Litter Robot. It's the only auto cat box that deals with loose stools effectively. When the globe rotates, the loose stool gets covered with litter. This prevents it from gumming up the insides.
Oh and the tray will need to be emptied on a regular bases - the litter box design is more for the comfort of the cat - to always have a clean litter box to use.
I hope they don't leave the regular litter box for a week without scooping it!
The amount of 'poopy' your cat is going to get on it is minimal especially if they are fed a good quality food that is appropriate for them - both my cats have firm solid feces that do not leave poopies.
Secondly - I hope they never let the cat walk on their bed. Even with a regular litter box the cat is still digging in the litter (and its urine/feces if the last time wasn't scooped) and then walking on beds or couches.
If they think it is that gross maybe they should look at the Cat Genie.
@bbgeek I agree, Cat Genie is a better choice for people like him who are overly worried about the cat's paws touching the litter. Too squeamish about germs? Get rid of the cat - that's the best solution.
I just wanted to add, it would probably be just as easy to keep some kind of toilet brush to sweep it out. The best feature for me is that my cats get clean litter pretty much every time they go in, even when I am at work. Much better than them walking around their own poopy, urine-soaked litter.
I've been using this box for a year and a half with four cats. The manual is clear that the ball part can and should be cleaned regularly. It can be hosed off outdoors easily. I have not seen things "sticking" to the inside; nowhere near as bad as my my traditional litterbox where my cats were having issues with poop and wet litter on their feet all the time, which would track around the house. One of my cats is a very bushy snowshoe, and another is a very large tabby. Like anything, clean it.
This guy has valid points. Im a clean freak & wont tolerate poop being on my kittens. But this video doesnt worry me b/c the guy only tried it once. How do we know that it wasnt really the litter that was the problem or something else? We dont know the answer b/c he only tried it once before giving it a bad review. Typically when i review reviews for a product im considering buying i like to hear from people who gave the product a chance ie 6-18 months.Im definitely going to give L.Robot a try.
These are some valid points. I've been wanting this litter box for a couple years now but havent bought because it is a bit out of my price range. But knowing the nitty-gritty of the litter robot now has me on a stand-still about what electric litterbox will be the best. But I am glad to know about all this--especially since I have a Himilayan, which means EXTREMELY fluffy, so all that nastiness will get right on her like nobody's business. Anyway, thanks for posting this review!
@SgntPurple Sounds like you are looking for a justification not to spend the money. Don't believe this guy, he is no expert. Go find happy users on YouTube and you will learn the **real** truth. 4.5 stars on Amazon, hundreds of positive reviews - no other auto litter box has such a positive track record. Go look there and read, you'll see what I mean.
I found his review very useful. The general public is often disgusting anyway (see hand washing scenario in public restrooms) so they probably don't mind the feces on their hands after giving fluffy a good rubbing.
I have a litter robot, have been using one for many years. It is the best litter box I have owned. My cats somehow manage to never get any of this poopy stuff this guy is talking about on themselves.
No litter gets stuck int the notches as he envisions either.
I have 3 cats and emptying the waste container every 3-4 days is sufficient. I don't know how long they wanted to store the waste? To me it sounds as if this person already had decided against the robot before it arrived.
I am glad you posted this to help those who may have questions about its functionality, cleanliness and appeal to cats. Though I want to point out to anyone looking to get an automatic box of any kind, anything that is going to touch the litter... will get poo on it. Just and FYI... no shocker this box that rolls will have the entire inside crusted in poop.
Also hehe. This review is completely flawed. 1) You need to use a decent Brand Litter that clumps well. 2) It clearly states in the manual that there is a large static charge during the first week that cause these symptoms. I'm sorry, but this review does not go through the variables that may have caused this to happen.
This litter box isn't about being lazy. I work a 9 to 5. I live in a small 1,000sf condo. The thing I absolutely LOVE about this litter box. Is that the smell of the litter box is GONE. while in the past I used to thoroughly clean the litter box every 2-3 days. Now the poop is disposed of in a concealed bag every 7 minutes after the cats (I have two of them) defecates. Now the smell of a litter box is virtually gone. That to me is PRICELESS!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ROBOT!
@AllCityUnit Me too can't imagine living without one. Also it saves tons of money on litter as well since it keeps it clean and maximizes amount needed!
I own one of these litter boxes and have not had any problems like the ones you are showing. The only thing I would have suggested to you at the time you posted this video, you've probably got rid of it by now, is to use better litter, a good quality clumping brand. Check the drawer daily, in case the build up you're worried about night be there and empty the bag once perhaps twice a week. I find 13gal. bags work great. Its to bad you didn't like the Robot. Imo it's the best box on the market!!
Yeah, I must have gotten his as a refurbished model! Saved me a bit of cash and I LOVE the thing. I have had none of the problems he had, but then again I WANTED it to work!
Really? How hard is it to just clean the normal kitty litter after they use it or a few times a day? And yes. After a FEW DAYS the kitty litter will be full dumbass. You know cats go to the bathroom every day. Stop being lazy douche bag and clean your cats litter box or give your cat to someone who will take care of it. Go take shit's and piss in your toilet for a few days and let me know if its full.
@LandRoverWay23 He's pointing out the failure of this device for the benefit of anyone looking for a review. How can you call him an asshole? People use devices that claim to be convenient, that doesn't make them lazy. I bet your toilet removes shit from your house using a plumbing system, why not suggest that people get off their lazy asses and shit in a garden then? I'll tell you, because it's inconvenient and dirty. Don't be a fucking annoying smartass, make yourself useful like this guy.
@lacigoeshard Worth every penny IMO. Love the robot, no scooping for me, just switching bags out every few days and cleaning the globe x 2 yearly. Heaven!
Look at the comments all by Litterbox company employees cause I just saw the original litter box ad video and people expressed concerns about the screen catching shit(which shows it a no brainer) and this video actually shows shit getting stuck in the screen. Its a big fail there only cause it will start to stink and cleaning it will not serve the purpose.
A better produce would be something with a flush that is connected to the house sewage system that wud flush out entire box automatically
The Dirty Truth About This Video This Guy Is An Ass Miss Leading Deceptive! 1) Use scoopable clumping liter. If he did you would not see raw cat shit anywhere. 2) I have owned mine for 3 years now. Never had to clean the outside of the globe where the little notches are. 3) The size of the draw is plenty big. I have 2 cats use tall 13 gal. kitchen garbage bags. Empty once a week. Never any issues. If you are thinking of buying a LR. Read reviews from people that own one Owners love there LR
You're missing out by not giving this thing a chance. We've owned the LR for more than 3yrs now with 2 cats using it everyday. It's saved my back from scooping litter everyday and I can say enough good things about it. Is it perfect? No, but it is waaay better than scooping litter everyday. With a little maintenance and a bag change 2x a week for me it's a no brainer over a regular litter box.
Lazy cat owners are annoying. Why bother with any of these expensive, frequently useless gadgets. Conventional boxes do not require that much attention or effort. What's next, a litter box that also dispenses food and pets the cat once a day.
I saw either this product or a similar one on the "Cat Whisperer" show on Animal Planet, and the "Cat Whisperer" said the same kinds of things as said in this video. It's an awful idea to have the waste rotate around and cake the interior of the entire machine and it makes the cats not want to use it.
@hyperwires I have had one of these for years and believe me there is no caked poop anywhere. it is impressive how clean the robot actually is if used properly. I use high quality litter and empty every 3-4 days, have three cats. I do a thorough cleaning of the globe twice a year, that's it. Love the robot and can't imagine not having one.
Personally, I think this guy is being way too nitpicky about this thing. He didnt want it to work so hes looking for every tiny flaw he can. Dude if you dont like the thing that is fine, but just return it already...
@yerk3 Hah you can't determin weather or not someone is payed to give opinion. Fucking idiot. (seeing as though your obviously going to say something back im just going to ignore you)
@Aceofthedaysdawn Well, since the video clearly shows the device failing, and you are talking it up like crazy, that's the conclusion I'm forced to come to. If you're not being paid to hype this product, then you're just a stupid piece of shit who doesn't mind cat litter on his floor.
@yerk3 Im going to go against what I said and not ignore you...for the time being. There are plenty of other conclusions you can come up with. It's immature and no im not going to let you give me a lecture on maturity because after I post this im going to block you. I perfer not to argue with fucking morons. It's like you have a wall of ignorance between you and any points anyone makes. I hope I dont come across you again-oh wait I wont see what you type...fucking douche bag dont even reply.....
@Aceofthedaysdawn How is it "immature" to be suspicious of someone who is talking up a product even though the video shows that product failing? There are viral marketers out there, and you're sounding exactly like one. Using the word "mature" as an artificial pedestal to set yourself up on in stead of using logic to back up your position is the exact opposite of maturity.
@Aceofthedaysdawn You can't block me, this is a public comment section. You can take your shitty marketing campaign elsewhere, but I'll still be here.
You may want to check out my sifting litterbox on you tube, @ LitterLoo
There were quite a few things I did differently that make it much cleaner. First, it's an open design, so your cat won't be forced to rub up against the inside. Second, there are two tracks on the side (which are flush with the outside) instead of a single protruding track in the center that can get clogged. You can also get more info at the litterloo web site. Unfortunately, it's not yet available for purchase.
Emilymcia wrote "Sounds like a domestic dispute to me... "someone" did not want this to work in the first place. The phrase "I imagine that in the future..." was used a lot. I personally imagine a disgruntled wife upstairs while this video is being shot."
This is an insightful comment. Who knows, if it is true.(I imagined the creator as a a detail-oriented person trying to educate the public..) However, your comment resonates with my experience with MY husband; therefore it made me smile!
@CarolynRN1 LOL I was envisioning exactly the same scenario. The amount of time her repeats how he was not expecting it to work kind of makes it obvious he had to prove himself right.
We purchased one of these a year ago and we love it. The cats love it and we don't have any of the problems you mention. It seems you don't clean your litter box that often in general based on a few of your comments and expectations. That is a concern.
I can appreciate your concerns, but creating a video after only one use is a bit much. I am an engineer, and after researching the various systems, this is the best there is. I purchased another one today for the downstairs. : )
Here's the thing, yes, there are some issues with it, but it's really the best thing out there. We can go an entire WEEK without dumping the waste drawer. How often do you empty a litter box? And yeah, the globe is gonna get dirty at some point. So you take the globe off every 6 months or so and spray it inside and out with a hose outside, using soap if you want. That's just normal upkeep of anything. Nothing is maintenance-free, but this is the closest thing around.
I love the device. We have had it over 1 year with no problems. You need to add odd used litter at first and have it turned off until the cats start to use it. Do not get rid of the old litter box until they use this one. About every ten days I do a complete cleaning which takes about 2 minutes. I absolutely love this one as do our cats. Sorry it didn't turn out for him.
Sounds like a domestic dispute to me... "someone" did not want this to work in the first place. The phrase "I imagine that in the future..." was used a lot. I personally imagine a disgruntled wife upstairs while this video is being shot.
Sorry to hear you'r having problems with it. I have had this unit for almost 3 years now and it is the best thing ever! The cat loves it, it doesn't smell, just empty the bin 2 times a week. This makes life so much easier. I'm a very happy litter robot user :)
To avoid unnecessarily frightening your cat, leave the Litter-Robot™ switched off until you are sure your cat is using it regularly. A cleaning cycle can be run by turning the LR on. OR Bring back the old litter box, but leave the Litter-Robot out as well. By letting the old litter box get full it may motivate your cat to migrate to the cleaner litter in the LR. You can also gradually move the old litter box closer to the LR. No prob w. dirty cat here ever
Yeah, bits of dirty on her back as opposed to on her feet from a normal litter box. Plus those bits stuck in the screen will be scrubbed off after one more cycle so I don't think it will accumulate and lastly as others have pointed out better litter will avoid alot of that.
I have one and it does work as advertised...Use a clumping litter (I use Fresh Step), and you will never this problem. I have had my Litter Robot for 3 years and my cat took to it day one. I have one cat and can go 2 - 3 weeks without emptying it. No smell, hardly ever have to clean, easy to maintain. Best Money Ever Spent! If I didnt have a product like this, I would seriously get rid of my cat. I dont have the time to be cleaning up after him every day.
I've had great results with ours. And the Robot Litter company offers a 90 day return guarantee if you're not happy. Oh well, can't please every one :)
This guy is an idiot, you can't expect to buy a liter box and expect it to never need any maintenance, what's he expect the thing to be able to run for several months without touching it, seriously dude your just crazy.
Too bad he didn't care for it - but I'd strongly advise anyone who is considering it not to be dissuaded by this negative review. I have had my 2 LR's (for 4 cats) for over 5 years now, and they have been nothing short of a godsend. Odour eliminated, litter box always clean for the next cat, and when you come home after 8+ hours away - no full litter boxes to scoop! This guy really hated the LR, but I (and many others) really love it... Your mileage may vary!
my cats have never had issues with it. i empty it about once a week with 2 cats, and it does let you know that the bin is full. and the dust issue is the litter, I have saved alot in litter since i got mine 2 years ago.
Like any other litter box, you will have to perform some kind of maintenance. Stop complaining all you would have to do is a wipe down every week as you clean the bin. At least your cat is not stepping on the waste like with a standard litter box.
I am only commenting to this crazy video because I feel SO STRONGLY that this guy is doing a great disservice to this wonderful product.
I LOVE this Litter Robot II........I even had my parents buy one for their cats. They LOVE theirs too. I have had mine for over a year and it has been the best, AND I MEAN, BEST investment I have made!!!

Normally I wouldn't comment but you're misrepresenting a GREAT device. I've had it 8+ yrs. My cat is quite big. Use littler that clumps well; U get none of the crap U showed (try Berkley&Jensen from BJ's 40lbs box , $7.50. Works great & cheap). With the LRII I can leave it for 2 weeks with no problems. Take cheap glad 10 gal kitchen bags, slide the drawer into the bag. To empty, turn bag inside out & toss. I have washed the globe twice. Never a smell. Expensive yes, but 100% worth it!

The only self cleaning cat litter that can work is some how extending the toilet to the litter box and having it flush everything out and then flush the toilet. The Cat Genie does that to an extent except the flushing. Also it takes to long for it clean.
You should buy this. It's been a life saver for the 8+ years I've had mine. I can go away for a week+. Just leave food with automatic feeder and self filling water bowels using used soda bottles. Sure I miss my cat, but he has everything he needs. You MUST use clumping litter and expensive is not better for clumping. Cats will get used to what you have for them. Mine took to his LR immediately (like 20 seconds after I finished filling it.) Some friends cats took a few days.
I'm glad I saw this video. I just saw this on an online ad and thought I'd get one next time I had a cat but I don't want any cat of MINE being subjected to all this unsanitary garbage and having her own stuff on her.
First, this videographer has no idea what would happen b/c he didn't wait and see.
Second, 8 years I've had mine, no mess, no litter in his fur, except once when I over filled it and he kicked it on himself. And best of all you never smell a thing once the cycle is complete. Every cat owner would fall in love with this, if not right away withing a week! I'd bet the cost of a unit on it!
A quick update, I have had the LR for about 5 weeks now, one of the kittehs started off using it right away, and two more started within the first week, but it took 4 weeks for all 4 of my kittehs to start using the LR. As I stated in my previous post, something about this guys video simply does not "smell" right.
I believe this is the only negative review I have seen. If you are shopping around, remember the return policy, if you keep an open mind, you will be pleasantly surprised.
I couldn't agree more. The review smells more than my LR ever has. Granted I only have one cat, but still. I recommend this to all my cat loving owner friends and while expensive, most have bought it and like myself would never turn back. We've tried all of them, except the one to train your cat to use the actual toilet. Couldn't be happier and HATE, I mean HATE, to see such a predetermined negative review. And no, I don't work for LR or get referral $, wish I did though.
Gross I looked into this but for the price and the size I decided not to. I'd rather get the standard rolling litter box. Youtube search it. BUT I bought the PetSafe Simply Clean litter box and I LOVE LOVE it. Look into it. No more scooping and it doesnt get all over your kitty.
@KatCountry1033Girl Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! /yeah, saw that just up here in the related vids and I'll seriously consider it next time I get a cat.
All waste is somewhat moist, which is why it is going to stick to parts of the globe. But, it should dry and fall off fairly quickly. I wouldn't let that perceived problem stop me from buying this product. Clearly, the product works great for most folks. My concern is the size of the enrtance, and whether my finnicky female would use it or not. If i were getting a new kitten, i'd buy this in a heartbeat if it were about 1/2 this price. For now, tho, my cats can keep using the traditional box.
Loved this honest and informative video! My kitties XLpetmate purrforma just quit after several years of great work. Yes it is large but it was for the cats best interest and it was so easy to clean. Now I am lost for a better litter box because there is NOTHING better out there as you have shown. Littermaids are time consuming to clean & my males peed on the controls & burned out the circuit board! I am hoping to find someone who can replace the motor, till then it will be used motorless : (
i'm sorry for all the terrible things people are saying. i mean, you're putting out your opinion & warning for us consumers & other ass holes are just taking it to serious. lol.
anyways, i've been interested in this product for a long time & i'm hearing "yes's" & "no's" for this. but i'm glad you put up how you feel about this. gives other consumers a change to decide, but you should have given it about week or two instead of a day.
You are the one traumatizing your cat. This is the best box put there. You don't think your cat is tracking poop when using a regular box? Not to mention the smell which you don't have with the robot. I've had mine for 6 years and Love it!!
I bought one of these four months ago and have had no problems with it AT ALL. With two ten pound cats, I only have to deal with it twice a week for less than 5 minutes each time. That is a whole lot better than scooping every day. The outside of ours is as spotless as the day it arrived. As with any other litter box from a plastic bin to a high tech washer, you can't ignore it for a week and expect everything to work right. It still needs attention once in a while. Just not every day.
I have used my litter robot for over 4 years - when you use a high quality litter, and place your bag into the drawer properly there are no issues.
Your preference is for your cat to step into POOPY material every day it would seem and to each his own. I change the bag three times a week with two cats and my cats NEVER have any litter on their backs - heads, or the other created problems you seem to create.
As for this guy possibly being with the competition, does anyone else find it curious that this is the ONLY video he has posted on youtube, no videos of kids, cars or pets? Heck, if he uses youtube as a vent to complain about bad products, this seems to be the only one to gain his wrath???
I don't know if he is or isn't, just something doesn't smell right, and it ISN'T the smell of kitty litter :)
I ordered mine on the recommendation of a VERY good friend of mine who happens to be a DVM, she uses one for her >10 rescue/blood donor/personal cats. and you DO NOT SMELL LITTER when you go into her house!
Klingons will dry/flake off, and the bags - Are you are HONESTLY complaining?
I don't know if you are an owner or simply a troll... but I have enough doubt to take your comments and video with a significant grain of salt. When it comes to believing you or my DVM friend, sorry, she wins.
Also, the tray works fine if you empty it out once a week. I've even gone a couple weeks with no problem. And the "bag issue" you try to create is really your fault for not properly installing the bag. The manufacturer can't do that part for you! Just hold the top edge of the bag level with the top of the tray when you push the bag into the rubber holds. Keep the edge of the bag tight with the edge of the tray as you go around attaching the bag to each hold. This works perfectly fine.
Your problem is with the litter, not the litter box. No litter box is going to be 100% clean all the time. Fortunately, cat's clean themselves of all sorts of nasty things all the time, so the kind of "dirty litter" of which you speak is no problem.
The fact that you spent so much time trying to denigrate the Litter Robot (even to the point of adding a couple dozen "tags" to your post to make sure people find it) says more about you. I wouldn't be surprised to find you work for a competitor.
I would think that the "poopy waste" would dry out and fall off the screen etc when the litter tumbles. It sticks because it is wet. Although I have no retort for the dusty back or cat poop notches.
thanks for making this video and stating the fact that this thing is shitty because i was going to get one myself feel bad for u i have a six pound cat
I am glad I found this video about this cat Robot cat box thing before I bought for my cat!! Thanks for making this video about it!! I am not buying for my cat!!
It's your loss. This guys video just isn't truthful. You can scoop multiple times a day, you can clean the rake on the littermaid, you can clean the overflowing bins on other automatic devices or you can change the bag out once or twice a week and even forget it's there because you don't smell a thing. Your choice. 1 bad review that is flawed in more ways than I can count is no reason to make like harder for yourself and you cat.
For the price of this robot and how dirty it appears to be, you might as well get a cat genie. I have had my cat genie 120 for 3 months now with 4 cats and it runs wonderfully without any clogging like the 60s appeared to have. I am happy with my genie and I am so glad I didn't buy a robot!
my cats have no problem of using it.. of course its gonna get dirty.. its the same thing when they use a traditional litter box.. i use the tidy cats 24/7scoop.. its pretty good.. it works best with the litter-robot.. i agree that its a bit small but for a regular size cat its just fine.. my cat is about 18 lbs and he has no problem using it.. i suggest hosing it down or give it a good cleaning at least once a month and its good as new.
@mseclipse417 I agree it isn't perfect but it is way better than manually cleaning poop every day. I have one and I LOVE it. We take it out and hose it down and clean it out and it fine. My adult cat took too it fine he is 9 to 10lbs. Scooping out a manual litter box several times a day is for the birds!
I was already to buy this when your video popped up to be viewed. I have a Cat Genie sitting in my basement that one of my cats won't use. One will go NEXT to it, but not in it. I agree with the comment about waste sitting in your toilet. Didn't much like that either. And it is mserable to keep clean. But I don't want to drop $300+ on something my cat won't use or it doesn't work right. Thanks for sharing the dirty details. I'll stay with the standard box and clean it twice a day.
Either a bad litter, or soft waste, or both. I am planning to buy this, but doing some research first. I bought a Litter Maid, about $200 worth and it's a disaster. I ended up removing the waste myself, ang cleaning the auto-scoop everyday.. tsk.
@retro1one Hmmm, you've never used this product, but you have concluded that the LITTER or the POOP was the problem, not the DESIGN? I'm glad you're not doing "research" on a more important issue...
FYI, we used Fresh Step Premium clumping litter in this product. I hope your cat always has rock hard poops so you'll never end up with a shit-stained Robot.
@emosleeper69 I understand what you're saying,. I'm just thinking that that might be the issue or not. One user had this one modified and mount it to a bigger plastic garbage can (elevated). imagine how much waste it will hold. I am concerned of what you've said as my cat sometimes sleeps in my bed. My cat is a digger, so the urine sticks at the bottom. that might be another issue here.. ~peace
@retro1one Our cat stopped using this after the first time. She started pooping on the floor instead of going back in. This was the first time she has EVER done that, and we've had several other litter boxes, most with a cover. She hated this thing.
Also, we could SMELL the litter dust on her fur after she had been inside. At that point, it was new litter, but how disgusting to think that your cat will be carrying on her fur DIRTY litter dust/particles all over your house?
@emosleeper69 My cat is sensitive. i'm trying to train to use the toilet, but i might not be sucessfull. I think you're right. i will not buy this litter robot. :( Did you find another one better? i had to leave my cat for a week or two and i really need to have one that works.
@retro1one We struggled with the same question, because we travel a lot. In my opinion, none of the products on the market today work very well. You know about the HORRIBLE LitterMaid. All the raking systems are bad. We tried the ScoopFree too. It REEKED after only 5 or 6 days - like an outhouse!
I understand that there is a new product coming out this year that promises to solve all the litter box problems, once and for all: clean, reliable, cat-friendly, large capacity, etc. Hope so!
@retro1one Sure. Several concerns. A major one is the drain. I don't want my cat's waste sitting in my toilet bowl until it gets flushed. Also, I looked at many user reviews, and it seems like there are a lot of technical problems. One of note is when it doesn't remove all the poop, and then "cooks" it with the dryer. Apparently the smell is something you don't soon forget! You can read all about the various troubleshooting/repairs people have to make with these...also, the on-going cost.
@emosleeper69 - you call one day's use 'research'? it sounds like you don't even regularly groom your cat, expect to ever have to clean the box out....EVER, or think that more traditional litter boxes don't spread filth anywhere your pet goes afterward. i guess ignorance really is bliss.
lol yes I looked inside and it never gets as dirty as yours It gets just abit dusty and the cat never gets anything on it's back ... I use "pet plus" perfumed clumping litter .
Maybe your cat's waste is too soft or something .
The only problem I got with this is that the waste box is too small as you said in your video . Realy gotta be carefull with that ;-)
Anyway, good luck and it was nice to have that "fresh" chat lol
Well, what wasn't "fresh" was the warm load our cat deposited on the floor NEXT to the Litter-Robot, after her first use. I'm glad it works for you, but our cat will not use it. I have heard plenty of others express the same issue, so I do think there is something about the design that does not work for many of us.
Yeps, looks like a piece of shit to me :-p

I'm "sticking" with the old-school litter box. Pardon the pun. Much easier to clean than this robot is anyway. Thanks for posting. Scoop-and-flush works for me. This "set it and forget it" culture is kind of lame.

MsAdrienneLynne 1 week ago

DrSpecialBrown 1 month ago
The poster of this video did not give the Litter Robot a chance! First of all, the cat does not have waste all over him when he comes out. Look at the many other YouTube videos to prove it; cats don't have litter all over them. The complaints about the drawer -**please**. There is **no** auto box that has a warning system when the drawer is full! Why pick on Litter Robot? His last statement sums it up - he was skeptical to begin with & wanted to be right. Have fun scooping, dude.

It looks claustrophobic. The first time I saw this thing, I thought it was strangely built.

Why so many dislikes? This guy is doing us a great service by warning us about the cons of the product.
cacahahacaca 1 month ago
@cacahahacaca
So you have to empty the drawer every other day, less than a traditional catbox!
dlhuse1 1 month ago

SyleenaSilverPaw 2 months ago 2
We just bought the Litter robot for our 2 year old Ragdoll. We really like it and our cat readjusted quickly. He does not rub on the sides, the waste container is plenty big, doesn't overflow, and best of all it keeps the odors away superbly! Our kitty had trouble covering his waste well so this is a huge odor bonus for us. Plus the clumped clay removes cat urine just like solid waste. This is much better than the pine pellets which left us a sawdust swamp in his bin. Works great for us!
sparklefy1 2 months ago
My concern with the automatic cat litter box is that if your cat has loose stools, a great mess is going to be made! It only makes sense.
WashfromCali 2 months ago
@WashfromCali Not with Litter Robot. It's the only auto cat box that deals with loose stools effectively. When the globe rotates, the loose stool gets covered with litter. This prevents it from gumming up the insides.
relesomk 1 month ago
Oh and the tray will need to be emptied on a regular bases - the litter box design is more for the comfort of the cat - to always have a clean litter box to use.
I hope they don't leave the regular litter box for a week without scooping it!
bbgeek 2 months ago
The amount of 'poopy' your cat is going to get on it is minimal especially if they are fed a good quality food that is appropriate for them - both my cats have firm solid feces that do not leave poopies.
Secondly - I hope they never let the cat walk on their bed. Even with a regular litter box the cat is still digging in the litter (and its urine/feces if the last time wasn't scooped) and then walking on beds or couches.
If they think it is that gross maybe they should look at the Cat Genie.
bbgeek 2 months ago
@bbgeek no one cares about the density of your cats shit... why don't you let your cat just go outside?
tomb1272 1 month ago
@bbgeek I agree, Cat Genie is a better choice for people like him who are overly worried about the cat's paws touching the litter. Too squeamish about germs? Get rid of the cat - that's the best solution.
relesomk 1 month ago
I just wanted to add, it would probably be just as easy to keep some kind of toilet brush to sweep it out. The best feature for me is that my cats get clean litter pretty much every time they go in, even when I am at work. Much better than them walking around their own poopy, urine-soaked litter.
zalzankavol2 2 months ago
I've been using this box for a year and a half with four cats. The manual is clear that the ball part can and should be cleaned regularly. It can be hosed off outdoors easily. I have not seen things "sticking" to the inside; nowhere near as bad as my my traditional litterbox where my cats were having issues with poop and wet litter on their feet all the time, which would track around the house. One of my cats is a very bushy snowshoe, and another is a very large tabby. Like anything, clean it.
zalzankavol2 2 months ago
@zalzankavol2 My experience, too. This guy just wanted to prove himself right because he was skeptical. He did not give the Litter Robot a chance.
relesomk 1 month ago
This guy has valid points. Im a clean freak & wont tolerate poop being on my kittens. But this video doesnt worry me b/c the guy only tried it once. How do we know that it wasnt really the litter that was the problem or something else? We dont know the answer b/c he only tried it once before giving it a bad review. Typically when i review reviews for a product im considering buying i like to hear from people who gave the product a chance ie 6-18 months.Im definitely going to give L.Robot a try.
lplowman1 2 months ago 5
I love the way he keeps using the word "Poopy" ^^ lol
MKsidechats 2 months ago
These are some valid points. I've been wanting this litter box for a couple years now but havent bought because it is a bit out of my price range. But knowing the nitty-gritty of the litter robot now has me on a stand-still about what electric litterbox will be the best. But I am glad to know about all this--especially since I have a Himilayan, which means EXTREMELY fluffy, so all that nastiness will get right on her like nobody's business. Anyway, thanks for posting this review!

And also... poop sticks to stuff so you have to wash it every now and then. You really need to learn how to operate the litter robot!

Well here is the trick to get your cat in the litter robot!
1. Get rid of the old litterbox.
2. put the litter robot where the old litterbox was.
3. Profit.
MegaDrLemon 3 months ago

AllCityUnit 3 months ago 2
@AllCityUnit Me too can't imagine living without one. Also it saves tons of money on litter as well since it keeps it clean and maximizes amount needed!
ckinsobe 3 months ago
I own one of these litter boxes and have not had any problems like the ones you are showing. The only thing I would have suggested to you at the time you posted this video, you've probably got rid of it by now, is to use better litter, a good quality clumping brand. Check the drawer daily, in case the build up you're worried about night be there and empty the bag once perhaps twice a week. I find 13gal. bags work great. Its to bad you didn't like the Robot. Imo it's the best box on the market!!

EpicFailGuitarist 4 months ago
The Dirty Truth About This Video This Guy Is An Ass Miss Leading Deceptive! 1) Use scoopable clumping liter. If he did you would not see raw cat shit anywhere. 2) I have owned mine for 3 years now. Never had to clean the outside of the globe where the little notches are. 3) The size of the draw is plenty big. I have 2 cats use tall 13 gal. kitchen garbage bags. Empty once a week. Never any issues. If you are thinking of buying a LR. Read reviews from people that own one Owners love there LR
MrKHope 4 months ago
You're missing out by not giving this thing a chance. We've owned the LR for more than 3yrs now with 2 cats using it everyday. It's saved my back from scooping litter everyday and I can say enough good things about it. Is it perfect? No, but it is waaay better than scooping litter everyday. With a little maintenance and a bag change 2x a week for me it's a no brainer over a regular litter box.
Z71usa 4 months ago 2
Lazy cat owners are annoying. Why bother with any of these expensive, frequently useless gadgets. Conventional boxes do not require that much attention or effort. What's next, a litter box that also dispenses food and pets the cat once a day.
DesignerAviaries 4 months ago
I saw either this product or a similar one on the "Cat Whisperer" show on Animal Planet, and the "Cat Whisperer" said the same kinds of things as said in this video. It's an awful idea to have the waste rotate around and cake the interior of the entire machine and it makes the cats not want to use it.
hyperwires 4 months ago
@hyperwires I have had one of these for years and believe me there is no caked poop anywhere. it is impressive how clean the robot actually is if used properly.

I can appreciate your concerns, but creating a video after only one use is a bit much. I am an engineer, and after researching the various systems, this is the best there is. I purchased another one today for the downstairs. : )
cloudimpact2 5 months ago

Try reading the directions first idiot:
To avoid unnecessarily frightening your cat, leave the Litter-Robot™ switched off until you are sure your cat is using it regularly. A cleaning cycle can be run by turning the LR on. OR Bring back the old litter box, but leave the Litter-Robot out as well. By letting the old litter box get full it may motivate your cat to migrate to the cleaner litter in the LR. You can also gradually move the old litter box closer to the LR. No prob w. dirty cat here ever
OMGoodnessMe 7 months ago
Yeah, bits of dirty on her back as opposed to on her feet from a normal litter box. Plus those bits stuck in the screen will be scrubbed off after one more cycle so I don't think it will accumulate and lastly as others have pointed out better litter will avoid alot of that.

I have one and it does work as advertised...Use a clumping litter (I use Fresh Step), and you will never this problem. I have had my Litter Robot for 3 years and my cat took to it day one.

Like any other litter box, you will have to perform some kind of maintenance. Stop complaining all you would have to do is a wipe down every week as you clean the bin. At least your cat is not stepping on the waste like with a standard litter box.

Do you have to keep saying "poopy"? Can't you just say "waste"?
Ferrante109 9 months ago
Thank you for informing me! I thought about buying this.
imygurl305 9 months ago
@imygurl305
Mine took to his LR immediately (like 20 seconds after I finished filling it.) Some friends cats took a few days.
sept11forever 9 months ago
I'm glad I saw this video. I just saw this on an online ad and thought I'd get one next time I had a cat but I don't want any cat of MINE being subjected to all this unsanitary garbage and having her own stuff on her.
Lavenderrose73 9 months ago
@Lavenderrose73
I'd bet the cost of a unit on it!
sept11forever 9 months ago
A quick update, I have had the LR for about 5 weeks now, one of the kittehs started off using it right away, and two more started within the first week, but it took 4 weeks for all 4 of my kittehs to start using the LR. As I stated in my previous post, something about this guys video simply does not "smell" right.
I believe this is the only negative review I have seen. If you are shopping around, remember the return policy, if you keep an open mind, you will be pleasantly surprised.
icemaniiscott 9 months ago
@icemaniiscott

KatCountry1033Girl 9 months ago 2
@KatCountry1033Girl Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! /yeah, saw that just up here in the related vids and I'll seriously consider it next time I get a cat.
Lavenderrose73 9 months ago

Most cats do not like the opening to be so small! they are very wary of being trapped.

i'm sorry for all the terrible things people are saying. i mean, you're putting out your opinion & warning for us consumers & other ass holes are just taking it to serious. lol.
anyways, i've been interested in this product for a long time & i'm hearing "yes's" & "no's" for this. but i'm glad you put up how you feel about this. gives other consumers a change to decide, but you should have given it about week or two instead of a day.

You are the one traumatizing your cat. This is the best box put there. You don't think your cat is tracking poop when using a regular box? Not to mention the smell which you don't have with the robot. I've had mine for 6 years and Love it!!
dlewis015 10 months ago 2
Your retarded and so is your cat. We all know that you work for littermaid which is the biggest piece of shit out there. Dumb ass.
crabie69 10 months ago
I bought one of these four months ago and have had no problems with it AT ALL. With two ten pound cats, I only have to deal with it twice a week for less than 5 minutes each time. That is a whole lot better than scooping every day. The outside of ours is as spotless as the day it arrived. As with any other litter box from a plastic bin to a high tech washer, you can't ignore it for a week and expect everything to work right. It still needs attention once in a while. Just not every day.
driver1928 10 months ago

I don't know if he is or isn't, just something doesn't smell right, and it ISN'T the smell of kitty litter :)
icemaniiscott 10 months ago 2
I ordered mine on the recommendation of a VERY good friend of mine who happens to be a DVM, she uses one for her >10 rescue/blood donor/personal cats. and you DO NOT SMELL LITTER when you go into her house!
Klingons will dry/flake off, and the bags - Are you are HONESTLY complaining?
I don't know if you are an owner or simply a troll... but I have enough doubt to take your comments and video with a significant grain of salt. When it comes to believing you or my DVM friend, sorry, she wins.
icemaniiscott 10 months ago 2
Also, the tray works fine if you empty it out once a week. I've even gone a couple weeks with no problem. And the "bag issue" you try to create is really your fault for not properly installing the bag. The manufacturer can't do that part for you! Just hold the top edge of the bag level with the top of the tray when you push the bag into the rubber holds. Keep the edge of the bag tight with the edge of the tray as you go around attaching the bag to each hold. This works perfectly fine.
dlong500 11 months ago
Your problem is with the litter, not the litter box. No litter box is going to be 100% clean all the time. Fortunately, cat's clean themselves of all sorts of nasty things all the time, so the kind of "dirty litter" of which you speak is no problem.
The fact that you spent so much time trying to denigrate the Litter Robot (even to the point of adding a couple dozen "tags" to your post to make sure people find it) says more about you. I wouldn't be surprised to find you work for a competitor.
dlong500 11 months ago 3
I would think that the "poopy waste" would dry out and fall off the screen etc when the litter tumbles. It sticks because it is wet. Although I have no retort for the dusty back or cat poop notches.

thanks for making this video and stating the fact that this thing is shitty because i was going to get one myself feel bad for u i have a six pound cat

I am glad I found this video about this cat Robot cat box thing before I bought for my cat!! Thanks for making this video about it!! I am not buying for my cat!!
LittleLyndsay79 11 months ago
@LittleLyndsay79
It's your loss. This guys video just isn't truthful. You can scoop multiple times a day, you can clean the rake on the littermaid, you can clean the overflowing bins on other automatic devices or you can change the bag out once or twice a week and even forget it's there because you don't smell a thing. Your choice. 1 bad review that is flawed in more ways than I can count is no reason to make like harder for yourself and you cat.
sept11forever 9 months ago 3
For the price of this robot and how dirty it appears to be, you might as well get a cat genie. I have had my cat genie 120 for 3 months now with 4 cats and it runs wonderfully without any clogging like the 60s appeared to have. I am happy with my genie and I am so glad I didn't buy a robot!
Candyann22 11 months ago
my cats have no problem of using it.. of course its gonna get dirty.. its the same thing when they use a traditional litter box.. i use the tidy cats 24/7scoop.. its pretty good.. it works best with the litter-robot.. i agree that its a bit small but for a regular size cat its just fine.. my cat is about 18 lbs and he has no problem using it.. i suggest hosing it down or give it a good cleaning at least once a month and its good as new.
mseclipse417 1 year ago
@mseclipse417 I agree it isn't perfect but it is way better than manually cleaning poop every day. I have one and I LOVE it. We take it out and hose it down and clean it out and it fine. My adult cat took too it fine he is 9 to 10lbs. Scooping out a manual litter box several times a day is for the birds!
SpookyElectric777 11 months ago
you have a problem with the litter not the litter box

Thank you for the info. I've been trying to win a Litter-Robot for our 2 furry babies and now I am thinking twice!!!!
mommyconnie1981 1 year ago
I was already to buy this when your video popped up to be viewed. I have a Cat Genie sitting in my basement that one of my cats won't use. One will go NEXT to it, but not in it. I agree with the comment about waste sitting in your toilet. Didn't much like that either. And it is mserable to keep clean. But I don't want to drop $300+ on something my cat won't use or it doesn't work right. Thanks for sharing the dirty details. I'll stay with the standard box and clean it twice a day.
759Sherry 1 year ago
Either a bad litter, or soft waste, or both. I am planning to buy this, but doing some research first. I bought a Litter Maid, about $200 worth and it's a disaster. I ended up removing the waste myself, ang cleaning the auto-scoop everyday.. tsk.
retro1one 1 year ago
@retro1one Hmmm, you've never used this product, but you have concluded that the LITTER or the POOP was the problem, not the DESIGN? I'm glad you're not doing "research" on a more important issue...
FYI, we used Fresh Step Premium clumping litter in this product. I hope your cat always has rock hard poops so you'll never end up with a shit-stained Robot.
emosleeper69 1 year ago
@emosleeper69 I understand what you're saying,. I'm just thinking that that might be the issue or not. One user had this one modified and mount it to a bigger plastic garbage can (elevated). imagine how much waste it will hold. I am concerned of what you've said as my cat sometimes sleeps in my bed. My cat is a digger, so the urine sticks at the bottom. that might be another issue here.. ~peace
retro1one 1 year ago
@retro1one Our cat stopped using this after the first time. She started pooping on the floor instead of going back in. This was the first time she has EVER done that, and we've had several other litter boxes, most with a cover. She hated this thing.
Also, we could SMELL the litter dust on her fur after she had been inside. At that point, it was new litter, but how disgusting to think that your cat will be carrying on her fur DIRTY litter dust/particles all over your house?
Good luck!
emosleeper69 1 year ago
@emosleeper69 My cat is sensitive. i'm trying to train to use the toilet, but i might not be sucessfull. I think you're right. i will not buy this litter robot. :( Did you find another one better? i had to leave my cat for a week or two and i really need to have one that works.
retro1one 1 year ago
@retro1one We struggled with the same question, because we travel a lot. In my opinion, none of the products on the market today work very well. You know about the HORRIBLE LitterMaid. All the raking systems are bad. We tried the ScoopFree too. It REEKED after only 5 or 6 days - like an outhouse!
I understand that there is a new product coming out this year that promises to solve all the litter box problems, once and for all: clean, reliable, cat-friendly, large capacity, etc. Hope so!
emosleeper69 1 year ago
@emosleeper69 Any comments about CATGENIE?
retro1one 1 year ago
@retro1one Sure. Several concerns. A major one is the drain. I don't want my cat's waste sitting in my toilet bowl until it gets flushed. Also, I looked at many user reviews, and it seems like there are a lot of technical problems. One of note is when it doesn't remove all the poop, and then "cooks" it with the dryer. Apparently the smell is something you don't soon forget! You can read all about the various troubleshooting/repairs people have to make with these...also, the on-going cost.
emosleeper69 1 year ago
@emosleeper69 - you call one day's use 'research'? it sounds like you don't even regularly groom your cat, expect to ever have to clean the box out....EVER, or think that more traditional litter boxes don't spread filth anywhere your pet goes afterward. i guess ignorance really is bliss.
CMsunshinePA 7 months ago
Very insightful. Thanks for the post
KarenKwan1 1 year ago
lol yes I looked inside and it never gets as dirty as yours It gets just abit dusty and the cat never gets anything on it's back ... I use "pet plus" perfumed clumping litter .
Maybe your cat's waste is too soft or something .
The only problem I got with this is that the waste box is too small as you said in your video . Realy gotta be carefull with that ;-)
Anyway, good luck and it was nice to have that "fresh" chat lol
davmathe 1 year ago
Well, what wasn't "fresh" was the warm load our cat deposited on the floor NEXT to the Litter-Robot, after her first use. I'm glad it works for you, but our cat will not use it. I have heard plenty of others express the same issue, so I do think there is something about the design that does not work for many of us.
Thanks for your comments!
