  • we saw this wreck LIVE - HANS device saved McDowell - Earnhardt refused to wear one.....

  • holy crap how did he not die??

  • A in car Camera would of been better to see too bad they dont put them into everyones car you never know when something like this is going to happen.

  • i get goosebumps everytime i watch this. its amazing at how hard he hit the wall.

  • its amazing. Dale Earnheart dies of a not so hard impact, but he can survive this. :-| glad he was alright though, earnheart was a trajedy. i miss his scemes of hitting cars to spin them out and win the race. ;)

  • the circumstances were a lot different in Earnhardt's case though. there were no safer barriers, no hans device, and the cars then were not as safe as the new cars are now. but i know how you feel, i thought the same thing when i saw this wreck.

  • hard hit, but there are many harder hits each year in racing. Look at some of the hits at Indy each year. Head on at 210-220 mph.

  • It's amazing what these cars can take anymore. Three or four years ago and he probably would have been dead. Also what's amazing is how quickly the Emergency Response Team responds. They're on the scene and out of the truck in less than 5 seconds after the car stops rolling.

  • he hit the wall around 189mph wow! he should be dead.

  • Good thing for that wall, or he would have wound up like Dale.

  • dale barely hit the wall. see my comment above, its amazing that dale died and McDowell didnt.

  • To all the people who say that NASCAR isn't a sport, how can you walk away UNHURT, let alone alive, and not be an athlete?

  • okay not disagreeing that nascar is a sport(motorsport) but you have to be an idiot to call him an athlete because he survived the accident. it doesnt matter who is in the accident, just how physics carries their bodies.

  • athletes or not... no one can argue this: race car drivers are TOUGH MOTHERF***ERS

  • thats true because prior to air condition suits those guys were burnin up. and most of the guys are in shape(not including tony stewart)haha

  • amen

  • for real. ;)

  • I think TMS messed up and didn't clean all the oil off of the track after the the driver who qualified before Micheal blew up, I was there and it took them an hour to fix the track after that.

  • that is just a testiment to the new car, if it can take that, it has done its job. plus i love the new cars because the drivers have to actually "drive" it like the old days. the old cars were getting so perfect aerodynamically that the racing wasnt as intence, it was starting to look a little like f1 where the cars are so perfect that if 1 has the slightest edge it'll crush the rest of the feild. glad too see old racing with a safer feel to it.

  • I agree that this was the worst crash I have witnessed. A combo of the COT, restraints, headrests and safer barrier saved his life. I do believe if this happened with the old car and the concrete walls obits for sure.

  • I think that if he was in the old car he could have been seriously injured, maybe dead. If you think about it though with the handling of the old car that probably would have never happened. Expesially with fresh tires.

  • dang and all he got was a bruze on his ankel

  • this has officially been called the hardest crash in NASCAR history.

    thank god he is ok.

  • /watch?v=Fu_dx5BuB8E

  • I was there and saw this, it's way crazyer when you see it in person.

  • It's so weird how much these cars have changed. I've been going to Nascar races since I was born. Well, before I was born, but whatever. Sure, i'll miss the old models, but the Car Of Tomorrow sure stands up to the toughest wrecks.

  • It was even more awesome watching it in person!!!

  • OH MY GOD ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • that was ugly

  • Thank God he is ok. That wreck looked really bad.

  • Nascar has done an amazing job with safety issues since Dale Earnhadt Sr's death at Daytona. The Car of Tommorow was a good idea, but it still has major issues that need to be worked out. Cudos to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for developing the SAFER Barrier.

  • wow...Thank God above all...and Nascar second for the improved Safety Devices.

  • Its amazing someone could actually walk away from that. Way to go nascar on the safer barrier.

  • Hurts just to watch that

  • I'm glad he is okay!!! Nascar is doing a great job on safety!!!

  • saw this happen live. it was crazy. i though he was killede on impact. thank you God for being with him.

  • Thats what happens when you drive a rice burner in an american sport. Keep it american.

  • I'm glad your not to ignorant to say. I'm glad he is ok NASCAR is doing a great job for safety.

  • Get a life retard

  • This is close to the worst I've seen.....but, the COT is still a failure, the handling or lack of handling they allow is what caused this.....this is stock car racing....not space ship racing....these dont look anything like the STOCK MODEL.....and they are ugly....glad he's ok....but NO COT....NO TOYOTA!!!

  • Safety has come a long way. That's NUTS!!!

  • how the hell did he walk away from that... great job by nascar wit the safe wall!

  • jesus tap dancing christ what a hit. and i thought kyle busch's wreck last year was rough.

  • It's amazing what these cars can take anymore. Three or four years ago and he probably would have been dead. Also what's amazing is how quickly the Emergency Response Team responds. They're on the scene and out of the truck in less than 5 seconds after the car stops rolling.

  • This reminds me of michal waltrip at bristol or ryan newman at daytona.

  • It reminds me of what i did once on Nascar 2008

  • crap man bad wreck

  • I saw this live...and i swear i thought he was dead.

  • yeah they thought he was dead at first

  • 3 years ago he would have died in that wreck. GOOD job nascar for all the work you put into protecting the drivers!

  • that car was "Way Too Tight". Listen to :44

  • hey ppl that think the COT was a waste of time - a "waste of time" saved his life. thank God for the Hans device, the safer barrier, and the COT.

  • We'll its hard to say if he would have died in the old car...

  • can't believe he WALKED away from this, proves that COT cars really are as safe as they say

  • holy shit...that was a SCARY crash.
