Cool video! To get true 24p out of the HV30, though, you need to "remove pulldown" (for example, in After Effects), not deinterlace. You'll notice a massive difference when exporting for the web. For playback on a television screen, it doesn't matter. But when exporting for the web, removing pulldown in a program like After Effects is a must.
hello it is possible to remove the pulldown in not just after effects but in compressor (bundled in final cut studio 2), and jes deinterlacer. I haven't found this question on a forum anywhere but is it necessary to remove the pulldown if your video medium is an ntsc dvd. I heard that the pulldown has to reinserted to comply with ntsc standards (30fps). I have removed pulldown before on the hv30 and it is quite painless with final cut especially on my mac pro.
It is NOT necessary to remove pulldown, as I understand things, if your medium is DVD. In fact, I just shot something in HDV24 mode on my HV30 and tried to export it to DVD after removing pulldown. It looked awful. As I've read elsewhere, it is only necessary to remove pulldown if you are exporting for the web. I can confirm that from experience. If you film in HDV24 and don't remove pulldown, it's a mess. But don't worry if you are focusing on DVD delivery. At least that's my understanding.
the HD is crazy. I was about to ask you where you guys were. I was like they are off in another country or something. Then I read your more info and I see Ohio. I am just in West Virginia. I'd like to get directions to that place.
is that a place people can go to if they aren't from your area ?
I have the HV40, How should I set it to have the 24p? Thanks!

Actually, I think compressor automatically removes pulldown when you deinterlace through its reverse telecine process.

The video looks awesome, especially when viewed on Youtube's HD. Wish I could go HD, I've got a DVX.
Anyway, loved the video man.
