@AdvancedHammer you shouldn't carve. It has a ton of bugs and most of the time it'll screw up your map, creating problems in areas that it'll take you ages to find by your self. For an example if you have made an indoor map with a completely carved room it's most likely something like a hole will appear in your map and it'll be unplayable.
@AdvancedHammer Literally the first thing I did when I got the worldcraft editor for half-life 1 was to make a box, then make a 16 sided cylinder and carve it out of the box to make a tunnel.
@Resetonedw Carve creates bad vertexes, causing certain issues which don't do much effect, but can cause optimization problems to the map itself. Creating more CPU usage and slight FPS loss that is barely noticeable.
hey im making maps too found this very useful cuz i suck at making caves and detail. basically im making deathruns if u got any ideas for traps plz pm me :P
why do you say that a power of 3 is usually the best?
i would say 4 since 3 looks shitty, 3 is only good for slow pc's. if your pc is fast do 4 since theres more details, but again, on large mountains and such, just use the small one, datail wont be seen anyways on huge stuff
My subdivide just creates loads of circular shaped objects and a mess...wtf!!!

The one person who disliked this is probably the one who has just loaded hammer editor for the first time.
Nice tutorial though, helped me a lot.

What do you do when you want to add a curve or slope of the tunnel?
gloryboy80 2 years ago
You go to the displacements on the right of the Face Edit Sheet. And go to Paint Geometry, and Raise and lower. Then do what ever you want to do.
AdvancedHammer 2 years ago
how do you get the "face edit sheet" menu open?
