Wylie DID work at Motown ('50s, '60s and '70s). ALL 4 you mentioned worked at Motown-Don Davis wrote songs for Herman Griffin on Tamla as assistant producer, Mike Terry played sax for Motown from 1963- early 65. Tony Hestor wrote songs at Motown. Tough to find a '60s Detroit Soul musician or singer who didn't spend time at Motown (J.J. Barnes, Melvin Davis, Steve Mancha, George McGregor, Thelma Gordy Coleman, Emanuel Lasky, The Parliaments). EVEN Mike Hanks had his name on a Motown Record.
great! people don't give guys like Mike Terry,Don Davis,Popcorn Wylie, and Tony Hester much credit for helping shape the Detroit sound because they weren't MOTOWN! Wylie did some work for them though. These guys were in the shadows of Motown but did a lot to bring great sounds out of the "D" !
Great and Superb Detroit Soul! I know a guy who is trying to link (or document) every recording James Jameson has been involved with (HUGE)but it sure would be a momentous achievment to catalogue all that Mike Terry has worked on!! A Top Thanks for putting this one up-Love it!Cheers.
