I used to fly out of Kinston,NC on this plane all the time in mid 1960's and 1970's till they got the 737's...The RR (Rolls Royce) sliverplate was on the side of the engine which I saw from my window seat. I was never crowded like a DC 9 which I hated. I remember a woman lit a cigarette on a flight on this plane and would not put it out and all hell broke loose. That was in 1970.
The DC-3 was one of the safest aircraft ever built. I used to watch planes like this land and take off at Lexington, Kentucky's Bluegrass Field. Flying was an adventure in those days; people used to get dressed up to fly! This video brought back many pleasant memories; thanks for posting it.
What a slug on the climbout.
