great to see the tuna - so few left and the guys that have helped make them extinct for money will move on to the next animal for money - these are sad times
This video is pretty cool. I'm amazed how they come right up to the boat. These blue fin tuna are in their infant phase. For these fish to make it to the adult 1000-1500 lbs range they say it should take about 20 years. Hopefully they'll make it to that phase in their lives.
if you guys got your quota and then started to feed the tuna with the remainder of the bait left I respect that. thats giving back intresting that the fish comes up 2 at a time
I want to through a butterfly jig at them right now, i would probaly go overboard but i think that it would be worth it. Fighting one of them on my jigging setup would be killer.
omgosh, this video is AMAZING! i can't believe you have wild tuna weighing hundreds of pounds that are coming up to feed next to your boat. WONDERFUL!
I'm glad that Tuna on the atlantic side are intact. Not so in Calif. They don't get that big here.Never seen Bluesfins get any bigger than 40lbs.Many fish depleted here.
@livingwater902 : Good for the strict sport fishing regulations in Canada, but do you realy think that sportfishermen are emptying the sea's ?.
You know that a scientific study in Brittain has shown that sportfishing is responsable for the catch of...0.01% of the yearly catches !We need to have more smaller vessels with adapted and selective ways of fishing and ban those factoryships on sea.
For the record : this was one of the most enjoyable footage I ever watched ! respect !

Wow, simply amazing GIANTS up close like that. Let's hope we don't hunt them into extinction, they're already on the brink of disappering from our waters.
The over fishing is due large trawlers that string miles and miles of hooks and the seiners that catch hundreds of fish in single day, regardless of size. The fishing zone this video is shot in has some of the strictest regulations and quotas in the world.
Yes habfansDOTcom is correct, here in Atlantic Canada we have probably the strictest fishing regulations and quota system in the world for bluefin tuna which is rigidly enforced by DFO.Our commercial regulations are probably stricter then sport fishing regulations in other countries. If all countries were as good at bluefin conservation as Canada there would not be a problem with the bluefin stocks anywhere in the world.
PEI is under some of the most strict quota restrictions in the world. The season here doesnt start until October 5. The fish were this thick for roughly 3 weeks in early September on the herring grounds of the Ridge. If there was 60 herring boats out the tuna were this thick around each boat. Unreal amounts of tuna!!!!!
Nice Video guys. Im guessing you had already limited out and were just having a little fun, What a bonus this video is though. We fed Yellowfin this way once, but that was years ago and it is very rare, to get it on video this way is even more rare. Great job.
put one of those chunks on a hook! nice footage though!

Great video. It's amazing how great the vision of those fish are that they would avoid the bait with the hook so many times. Awesome fish.

You guys do realize the size of the spawn that fish have right? They lay anywhere from 100-1000 eggs at a time. They aren't going anywhere.
